Canadian Summer | Hilda Van Stockum

Pickpick

I chose Canadian Summer, the sequel to The Mitchells: Five For Victory for #foodandlit this month. The Mitchell family moves to Montreal from Washington, D.C. shortly after the end of WWII. There are 6 Mitchell children & they get up to all sorts of shenanigans. They befriend some of the French speaking locals & other interesting neighbors. These are sweet & cozy & I‘m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. 4⭐️🇨🇦

5✨ I laughed, cried, and loved this book. We follow Elizabeth, a cultured East Canada teacher, when gets a position in the frontier to teach a small town that has never had a teacher. Her struggle to hard living is a major learning experience to her. She tries to hold her head high, but what she doesn‘t struggle with is loving and teaching her students. As a teacher struggling myself this was the book I needed. #FoodandLit 🇨🇦

This is another beautifully illustrated Canadian cookbook that showcases multiple different Canadian chefs. The recipe I most want to make is tartiflette au fromage (cheese tart). 4.5⭐️

Here‘s another Canadian cookbook I chose for #foodandlit this month. Standout recipes that I want to try are toasted garlic soup 🤤 and wild rice and mushroom soup. There are also a ton of beautiful pictures of the Canadian countryside. 4⭐️

I chose this cookbook for #foodandlit this month. It was originally published in 1966 so there are no food pictures but there are a lot of authentic Canadian dishes that sound delicious. I might finally make scotch eggs which I‘ve been wanting to do for awhile. 3.5⭐️

What will the third sister so. #ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove24 it also had 664 pages. #ChunksterChallenge2024 #MiniChunkster @Texreader @Catsandbooks @DieAReader @Andrew65 @TheSpineView @Amiable @GHABI4ROSES

The life of a young teacher in 30s Manitoba. Her pupils‘ poverty is incredible. Meanwhile, where I live, the fog outside is so thick right now it‘s like living in cotton wool...
