So when this coronapocalypse makes its way into our #historybooks , someone needs to use this image as the “See Figure 1” picture with a caption explaining the sudden disappearance of #toiletpaper underneath it.

night_shift Same here. And with a few other staple things. The scariest for me, honestly, is diapers. We can go thre clothe route if we have to but omg. 5y

For @ljuliel who asks what historical periods we like:
Tudor England, Regency England, Victorian England, England between the wars, England during the Blitz (tagged book), England during rationing after WWII. Major anglophile here! Medieval Europe. Expats in Paris during wartime, Old New York around 1900. Antebellum American South. Appalachia since settlement. #KeepLitsyActive #HistoryBooks #historicalfiction

ljuliel Wow, very good ! You picked a lot of favorites. I like reading about different times too, just to change things up. So much to learn about. 5y
readordierachel I'm a sucker for Regency and Victorian England too. 5y
jillrhudy @readordierachel well, who isn‘t? (swoon) 5y

Repost for @ljuliel

#keepLitsyactive #historybooks

Today's book question: What time frame do you enjoy reading about? If you don't like NF, history or historical fiction, is there a time frame you prefer? Like modern day, 1950s, 1930s? Please repost with a book you enjoyed from that time frame!

I love reading anything about Henry VIII and really enjoyed the tagged book 🤴

ljuliel Thanks for posting. It‘s really interesting that out of all the answers, we‘ve had very few that are the same. Lots of variety. 5y
wordslinger42 @ljuliel Of course! 😊 I'm surprised at the variety, too, but it's cool to learn about so many books that I probably wouldn't have discovered otherwise! 5y

@ljuliel asks what‘s our favorite time period(s) for history, whether it‘s non-fiction or fiction. I ❤️ History of all kinds, places, cultures! I go through cycles (that sometimes I return to). My current phase is the American Revolutionary War era (1770-1800). This is one of my current reads. Next year my focus may be very different. Generally I‘m fond of American history & British royalty (any era) & art history.

ljuliel Thanks for posting. I‘ve got that book on audio. How is it ? And isn‘t it the first of a set or series ? I couldn‘t remember ... (edited) 5y
ValerieAndBooks @ljuliel there‘s a lot of details about battles and a lot of maps but he inserts interesting things often enough to keep it moving along! It‘s the first of an “anticipated” trilogy and I don‘t know when the next one will be out. 5y
ljuliel Well, I might just have to pick up a copy I can see then, unless the audio comes with pdf files of some sort. It sounds good I like reading the details about the battles. I think this was just recently new wasn‘t it ? If so, we‘ll probably have a bit of a wait til the next one. 5y
MeganAnn I go through phases too! Once I get interested in a certain time/place I‘m on the lookout for everything I can read set there. 5y

In response to @ljuliel 's query about historical book preferences, I don't seek out historical fiction/NF history in particular (I like to read books written during the time period rather than modern books looking back), but I do have some individual books that I love. The tagged book, Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels about Gettysburg, and Nathaniel Philbrick's Mayflower are a few favorites.

#KeepLitsyActive #historybooks

ljuliel I like reading about the Civil War too. Thanks for posting. 5y
rubyslippersreads All three of these sound fascinating. 5y
Crazeedi The tagged book sounds great, the authors you mentioned are excellent 5y

ValerieAndBooks I recently came across a list of recommendations for historical fiction set in the Revolutionary War, and Jeff Shaara was recommended, so I‘m keeping an eye out. Philbrick is a history author I like, too! 5y
ImperfectCJ @ValerieAndBooks The only thing I've read by Philbrick is the Mayflower book, which I read in part because we were living in Massachusetts at the time. Are there other titles by him that you particularly like? 5y
ValerieAndBooks @ImperfectCJ I read Mayflower because I‘m a Mayflower descendant 😊. But I also liked this one 5y
ValerieAndBooks Not really history, but I also enjoyed this tagged book. And have a couple others of his TBR 5y
ImperfectCJ @Crazeedi @rubyslippersreads I did really like these three. Cooney's book in particular provided an intriguing picture of the period along with a lot of information about the limitations of historical research and how the biases of historians influence how our stories about the past are crafted. She also has a book of shorter profiles of a collection of ancient rulers (tagged) that my daughter really likes. 5y
ImperfectCJ @ljuliel Killer Angels isn't something I would have picked up on my own, but the book club I was in at the time selected it one month. Score one for book clubs! 5y
ImperfectCJ @ValerieAndBooks Ooh! I might be taking a trip to Montreal and the Lake Champlain area next year, and Valiant Ambition sounds like it might be a good accompaniment for that trip. Thanks! 5y
