#BookSpinBingo #Jan2021

Finished 7 books - No Bingo yet!
Now reading Killman Creek and Evening and The Morning

BookishMarginalia You are on a roll! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 3y
EadieB @BookishMarginalia Thanks! Hope you are going well! 3y
BookishMarginalia I‘m enjoying the long weekend. Teaching is exhausting! I‘m going to check out some of your bingo picks — I love mysteries, especially cozies. I also read Reconstructing Amelia a while ago and really enjoyed it. The author is super nice too — I “met” her at a virtual book club meeting in our local indie bookstore in PR a few years ago. Hope you‘re having a good day too! 3y

EadieB @BookishMarginalia Thanks! That's cool that you live in PR. I've only been in the airport when I used to go to the Caribbean. Have you ever read Peter May? He is one of my favorite authors. Here is the first book in the series: 3y
BookishMarginalia No I haven‘t but it looks right up my alley. Descriptive procedurals? Yes, please! (I devoured ALL the Ann Cleaves books in Nov-Dec). We live in Florida now. We moved the summer after #HurricaneMaria... it was a very traumatic experience —4 full months without power, little cell reception, supply shortages— and we had job offers from a school here, so we packed our books, took our 5 cats, and moved to Bradenton. We love it here. 3y
TheAromaofBooks Great progress!!! 3y
EadieB @BookishMarginalia Just got back from a couple of libraries. Hurricane Maria wasn't very nice but it looks like you found a great spot in Florida on the Gulf coast. Here's a few other authors that I love their series: Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway), Peter Robinson (Inspector Banks), Simon Beckett (David Hunter) James Oswald (Inspector McLean Mysteries), Chris Carter (Robert Hunter) (these are gritty but very good), Linwood Barclay (Promise Falls) (edited) 3y
EadieB @BookishMarginalia A few more series Claire McGowan (Paula Maguire), Adrian McKinty (Sean Duffy), Jane Casey (Maeve Kerrigan)
These are Historical Mystery series that I have enjoyed: C.S. Harris (Sebastian St. Cyr), Kate Ellis (Joe Plantagenet and Wesley Peterson), C.J. Sansom (Shardlake)
Enjoy your reading this weekend and take advantage of the extra day!
3y
BookishMarginalia Thanks for all the recommendations, Eadie! I‘m making a note on my reading planner so I can start tracking them down. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 3y
EadieB @BookishMarginalia You're welcome! Hope you enjoy them as much as I did. 3y

I‘ve been kind of MIA from here for a while and I actually lost the majority of my book collection in Hurricane Florence (either to water damage or to mold). This is some of my small current collection. Some were ones I took with me when I evacuated and some are ones I‘ve been gifted or bought at the library book sale more recently. #stupidhurricane

BookishMarginalia Big hug — we lived through #HurricaneMaria 5y
Vexingcircumstance @BookishMarginalia it was annoying because our house didn‘t take that much damage but with the water that Did come in the two small holes in the roof and the power out for a week and us not able to get home for over three weeks due to flooded roads mold overtook the house and infested everything. We were able to clean most (but not all) of our movie collection and could wash anything cloth but everything else had to be trashed. :/ 5y
Vexingcircumstance @BookishMarginalia luckily I had taken at least some of my books with me when we evacuated. I took the hard or impossible to replace ones and I took most of my daughters books. 5y

Megabooks I‘m so sorry! 💜💜 5y
BookishMarginalia That just sucks. 😕 We we‘re without power for 4 months but we were lucky; we didn‘t lose anything but a few trees and a section of gate. 5y
Vexingcircumstance @BookishMarginalia some people here were without power longer than we were. We lived downtown. So our power was among the first to come back (which I only knew from friends checking on my house for me). But since we were stuck out of town it didn‘t help much. Looters stole most of the electronics and my husband‘s antique guns and some other random stuff and trashed the place. And the mold took over the rest. 5y
TiredLibrarian @Vexingcircumstance Wow, that sucks. Glad you're OK and there were some books you were able to save. ❤ 5y
Tamra I‘m sorry! 5y
Hornsby78 Hurricane Katrina survivor here. I am so sorry you lost your books and I hope you find ample replacements! 5y
SassyBookworm Goodness that‘s terrible. I‘m so sorry that happened to you & your family. Hopefully you‘ll find some great replacements soon. Well wishes for a better 2019! 5y
BookBabe That‘s so awful 😭 I‘ve made it unscathed through hurricanes, but I‘ve had my home get flooded like 6 times over the years due to various other factors like pipes bursting, etc. I know what that‘s like to come home and find everything moldy and disgusting. It‘s so horrible. I feel for you and your family. *Big hugs!!* 5y

Settling down for some coloring on this overcast Sunday afternoon

Kayla.Adriena Holy cow you have a ton of Litfluence! 5y
BookishMarginalia Thanks! #HurricaneMaria and a move to Florida knocked me off my stride for over a year, but I used to run quarterly bookish exchanges and post multiple times a day... I‘m trying to get back into the swing of Litsy again. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼@Kayla.Adriena 5y
Crazeedi I love my coloring books! This one looks awesome! (edited) 5y

kspenmoll It‘s wonderful to see you able to post more again! Missed you! 5y
BookishMarginalia @kspenmoll Thanks! Missed you too! My recovery from María has been longer and tougher than I expected ? 5y
BookishMarginalia @Crazeedi It‘s a lovely book — thick pages and just enough detail. And who can resist flowers? 5y
Avanders Glad to see you back! Everyone's asking about #ssgp this year bc those quarterly swaps were favorites! 😉 Hope you're able to find peace and relaxation coming off of Maria and all the terribleness it was 🤗🤗 5y
BookishMarginalia @Avanders I‘m thinking of starting up again with Valentine‘s exchange. What do you think? 5y
Avanders @BookishMarginalia I think that would be amazing and everyone would be so happy to have the "Goes Postal" swaps back in action ??? But I also say, take care of yourself! Only do it if you have the time/energy and the mental space. ?? 5y

I was fortunate enough to connect with José Andrés‘s nonprofit and deliver food to various communities in Vega Baja who were ravaged by #HurricaneMaria . If it were up to me, this book would become a bestseller to pay back this man who selflessly did so much for my island.

WanderingBookaneer @Susanita : He‘s been doing it for years. He started after the Haiti earthquake, he‘s helped after California wildfires, after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, etc. 6y

Watching Suits at my mom‘s where we have sought refuge from the dark for a while. The wind blowing outside the apartment is making me anxious, though — thoughts of #HurricaneMaria 🙁

Darktown: A Novel | Thomas Mullen

Pickpick

I started reading this #KindleDailyDeal during #HurricaneMaria . I was loving the story, but the pacing was too slow for me during those early days where we were fearful of exiting our house. Once life resumed its routine, I finished it quickly and was very satisfied by this novel about Atlanta‘s first African American cops investigating the murder of an African American woman who may have been killed by a bigoted former policeman.

#LitsyMeetUp ! Shona ( @Anovelobsession ) is one of the unsung heroes figuring out the logistics of keeping the island up and running after #HurricaneMaria . @BookishMarginalia and I managed to see her before she goes back to Texas on Wednesday.
