pickJordan adopts an injured baby elephant who helps her find new ways to get back into sports she loves. Beautiful art paired with fun characters, disability inclusion, and a well-paced plot make this an enjoyable read. I loved meeting Jordan‘s team. so-soThis is a deep dive into the notorious Hotel Kerobakan jail in Bali. I didn‘t realise Gordon Ramsay‘s brother had done a stint here, and not knowing much about it beforehand, I found that section pretty interesting.
The more I read though, the more I felt the author has a gender bias. Women are described in a very derogatory way, while men are painted as hard done by. It doesn‘t sit comfortably with me.

Today‘s haiku is inspired by a large banyan tree that fell into the road in Hilo this weekend. (Not the one pictured) Luckily, no one was injured but it makes me sad to see one of these revered trees fall. They are not native to Hawaii but they have become a part of the landscape & culture.

Stories ride the island breeze

It‘s a good day when “work” means you get to read about shipwrecks. Today‘s work is focused on a shipwreck in the Java Sea—60,000+ glazed bowls, spice filled jars, objects in gold and silver, bronze mirrors, and more discovered in a vessel that sunk over 1,000 years ago.
pickI liked this book. It told a different story about WWII that I didn't know about. The people in this book were great. I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars.
