Please someone explain to me why they loved this book?
Everyone I know loved it and I tried so so so so hard to look past it‘s many flaws, and just appreciate the writing (which was beautiful). I read an interview explaining that the changes in the main character represented the changes in Irish society. Maybe there are more analogies that I didn‘t understand?

AmyG I read this awhile ago. I just loved the quirky, dysfunctional family…full of secrets and humor. Reminded me of John Irving, in a way. I also just loved the main character. 22h
Megabooks Yes, Cyril was the embodiment of changes in Irish society over the last 70 years. His imperfections are what make him such a great character for me. I like unlikable characters though and enjoyed the nuance I think Boyne showed in them. 12h
marleed I loved this book. It took unexpected turns and I loved the characters and their movement through time and place. 11h

The Daughter of Doctor Moreau | Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I‘ve always been intrigued by this creepy classic, especially when they changed the ending of the 1977 movie so as not to spook the audience. But we could already see those feline features in Barbara Carrera‘s character!🙀 So…I really enjoyed this reimagined version spiced with much more history and details about the hybrids. Brava Silvia!

Moonprismpower Gosh thanks for checking in! It‘s gone pretty good book wise and I had a lovely thanksgiving with my family. I didn‘t have to cook or clean just eat! How about you??😄 2d
BookwormAHN @Moonprismpower We had a nice small Thanksgiving. My father cooked a turkey which was excellent and we had sandwiches with it for quite a while. 2d

This book was too familiar to me, from his childhood visits to a speech pathologist to becoming an "ex-pat" (that term also always felt wrong to me, so I am happy he brought it up). Instead of French, I was taking Italian classes, which I had to pass to be a resident. I could relate to so many of his stories. Laughed a lot! ♥️

This was my #25 of the November #Roll100. Glad I was able to get one read this month.

Pickpick

Three former friends who've drifted apart over the years are thrown back together when they decide to skip school together. They stumble into a crime scene, where one of their classmates is dead.

This one was between a pick and so-so for me, but I gave it a pick because it started out well. I just don't think it was as well-written as her others, and the ending felt rushed, weak, and fairly unbelievable.

Nora is a literary agent in New York City, Charlie is an editor, and they both have bad impressions of each other based on the first time they met. So when Nora is on vacation with her sister Libby in Sunshine Falls, a sleepy little town in North Carolina, she's less than pleased to run into Charlie.

Wow!! I really didn't think I could like this as much as the previous books in the series. I was 3/4 of the way through and wasn't convinced, and then I finished reading the book. 😳 This book is so great! Spies, clues, friends, Alan the dog, and a very well-written plot. I Love This Series!!

Unpopular opinion, I know, but I just didn't enjoy this one as much as I thought I would. There were a lot of characters, a lot of information to keep track of, and the timeline jumped back and forth somewhat. It was a fascinating storyline with a well-thought out plot, but just too much for me to focus on right now.

5feet.of.fury There‘s certainly a lot going on, I also was not prepared going in. I did enjoy it, but I agree it is so complicated. 2w
