Pickpick

This was more of a mystery/suspense than it was a thriller. It is a very slow burn. I liked the way the author left little puzzle pieces for you to try to piece together before the main character. I didn't trust anyone and suspected everyone. I think the writing was so well done, I felt like anyone could have actually been the who did it, and it would have made sense. Beautiful writing, very atmospheric, but a little too slow. 4.5/5

The 5th book I have read by Rash and my least favorite. A marriage of two horrible people intent on making great profit through logging and having no problem racking up a large body count in the process. When Serena realizes that she will never have a child she decides to have the one he fathered before meeting her killed. This could have been a more intense read but I felt removed from it all, never getting beneath the surface of the characters.

Yet another aspirational library. That little spiral staircase (which also leads to a hidden hallway to the guest rooms). I have mixed feelings about the Gilded Age (and decidedly negative feelings about its current reboot), but they had awesome private libraries---and views.

Biltmore Estate, Asheville, NC

Faranae I use a photo of the John Work Garrett rare book library on my stream, and it must have been redecorated around the same time as the Biltmore Estate (it was built 10-15 years before), because the colour and fabric choices are identical. The Garrett is slightly less baroque, but that's only because they spent all their Gilded Age money... gilding a bathroom! 2mo

Amélie is expressing my opinion of the ending. An early novel, this shows the promise of what Cash will become. But it‘s not there yet. It does a great job of evoking its place, and I want to love some of the characters. But they‘re not totally believable. Still a good escapist read. It‘ll be interesting to hear my non southern book club members‘ opinions. #LetterL #LitsyAtoZ @Texreader
