Picked this because I recognised the authors name but don‘t think I‘ve read him before. Set in the near future it explores things that are or maybe possible , but are they ethical? Characters well developed. I felt for all of them.
I became absorbed in the story . Interesting ending.

Very readable, often intriguing, however this also left me a little puzzled. At times it was a family drama, others a coming of age story, it touched on dystopia, and was also quite science-y. Overall I liked it; I enjoyed the writing which had a quiet gentleness to it, “an elegance”, I‘ve seen it described as. I came away sad and feeling slightly muddled, thinking a lot, which isn‘t a bad thing.

emmasm08 I have it to read ! I‘m intrigued now ! 4mo
JillR @emmasm08 do let me know when you get to it, interested what you make of it… 4mo

This was a brilliant read, thought provoking, clever and genuinely tender in places. Slightly disappointed with some parts of the ending but a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Talissa agrees to be the surrogate for an English couple. The procedure takes place in a clinic run by a shady multi-millionaire who has his own ideas about the human race.

As a result Seth, the son, turns out to be quite a different human being (no spoilers!).

I liked the near future setting that felt realistic but felt that there was a bit of distance from Seth. First person may have given more depth to his feelings. A great read though.

BarbaraBB A new Faulks! I didn‘t know. Sounds good!! 1y
JillR Don‘t think I can read this - my son is Seth, you don‘t come across the name often in books, and I think it‘d freak me out 😆 Sounds good though! 1y
squirrelbrain Hmmm, maybe not for you then @JillR 😬 1y

Day 25 - #Love #BeautifulWords
#BirdsongANovelOfLoveAndWar #SebastianFaulks

Love is more of a feeling that a person feels for another person. People often confuse love and lust. Love means to be deeply committed and connected to someone or something. The basic meaning of love is to feel more than liking towards someone.

I read this awhile ago but loved it very much!

OriginalCyn620 Sounds good! 4y
