Capturing the Devil | Kerri Maniscalco
post image

Very much enjoying this 4th book in Maniscalco‘s “Capturing Jack The Ripper” series. After their disastrous term at Romania‘s best forensic school, then the chaos onboard the RMS Etruria with the Moonlight Carnival that culminates with Audrey Rose being injured, herself & her beau Thomas Cresswell, are now in NYC preparing for their engagement. But there‘s a serial killer on the loose, and his methods seem very familiar.🤔🔪 #SomethingWickedFall

This was a slow burner horror but boy, when it got going it was full of a menacing dread that won‘t let go. I‘ve always thought I‘d make a good hermit, as long as I had all my books & music but being a hermit in the arctic is another animal entirely. Especially if you have the misfortune of being left in a bay haunted by a seriously pissed off ghost! #ReadHarder2019 #AnEpistolaryNovel #Pop19 #SetInScandinavia #SomethingWickedFall

BekahB Yesssss! I love this book so much. I read this all in one night because I couldn‘t put it down. And then of course I couldn‘t sleep after finishing it. The perfect build of dread. 5mo
Cathythoughts Nice review 👍🏻 really liked this one too 5mo
marleed I can‘t wait to read this having just given Recursion 5*. I have it on hold at the library and my timing should be perfect for October! 5mo

Lizpixie @marleed are you thinking of the Blake Crouch novel? This has the same title but is completely different, but just as good!👍 5mo
marleed Oh my gosh, I was. But now I‘ve stacked this one too! Maybe I can double my Dark Matter for October! 5mo
ImperfectCJ I've only known a few people who've read this one! I really enjoyed it and also Thin Air by the same author. My kids like Paver's middle-grade Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series, too. 5mo
Tamra I really liked it too! 👍🏾 5mo

#RedRoseSeptember #day5 #HitTheNorth My next read is set the most north you can get & still be on the planet! It‘s 1937 and Jack has joined an expedition to the Arctic Circle. Leaving Norway by ship spirits are high, but the Arctic Summer is brief & ends up alone after his companions desert him. Soon, the sun goes down for months & the sea freezes and Jack is trapped. But alone, he‘s not. Something is waiting in the dark. #SomethingWickedFall

This was not only a beautiful book to look at, it was also a beautiful book to read. It has such an air of melancholy but also a touch of hope, the kind of hope a drowning man clutches at to the end. The writing itself was almost dreamlike, poetic & lyrical. It‘s an adaptation of the story of Melmoth the wanderer, a woman condemned to walk the earth alone forever unless she can persuade the guilty to join her. Perfect for #SomethingWickedFall

Currently alternating between this audiobook & my signed hardcover of Melmoth by Sarah Perry. This audiobook is brilliant, it‘s like if Terry Pratchett had written Sherlock Holmes! Really hoping it‘s just the start of a series based on these characters, they‘re fabulous🙌 #SomethingWickedFall #readathon

CarolynM I really enjoyed this even though I'm not really a fantasy reader. I am a fan of Alexis Hall though, I love the way he writes. 5mo

Up next is a book that I started awhile ago but wasn‘t quite in the mood for, but I need some #gothichorror for this months #SomethingWickedFall #readathon and thought this may fit the bill. I‘m a few more chapters in and I‘m hooked! Guess I‘m in the mood for it now.👁👁

Now this was the ending I‘d hoped for, well except for one or two things, but you can‘t have everything. The concluding third of Mia Corvere‘s story is as full of blood, fury & love as her tale deserves and then some.I‘m not giving spoilers out but if you haven‘t read it yet be prepared for shouting & tears. Now I have my signed copies of the Australian Trade Paperbacks,I‘m just waiting on the copies to finish my other editions! #SomethingWickedFall

I am trying to read the Wayward Pines trilogy this weekend, but the first book is driving me nuts! Ethan just keeps getting the crap beat out of him. I hope we move past that. #somethingwickedfall #readathon #TwoInThree #BookAWeekChallenge
