My October has started out strong with my first spooky read from one of my fave genres, middle grade horror! I‘ve enjoyed being with Brian, Ollie, and Coco and I liked the intro of a new friend. This one left on quite the cliffhanger, so I‘m looking forward to finishing this quartet. So-so because I liked it a bit less than the previous two.

A reread before finishing the series, I‘m using this for #52Books #cliffhangers

LaraReads Oh wow! Thanks! This prompt had been stumping me a little, so appreciate the rec! 1y
Librarybelle Just judging by the cover, I would definitely say cliffhangers are in that one! 1y
ravenlee @LaraReads @Librarybelle this is the third of a quartet, but so far they all have cliffhanger endings! First book is 1y
squirrelbrain Yes, I‘m not sure what to read for this prompt either @LaraReads 1y

I love this middle grade series about three friends who survived the smiling man twice…much to his frustration. He‘s not done with them yet and in this latest book, what is supposed to be a fun boat trip becomes a harrowing adventure with a mysterious island, a terrifying sea creature, and haunting voices. Another fun story, I think I liked this one better than the second, and a series that is perfect for young readers looking for a good scare.

Going to try and squeeze in one more spooky middle grade read before Halloween. I enjoyed the first two books in this series and am anticipating another fun read.

This is not the strongest book in the Small Spaces series but it‘s still creepy good fun with an evil scarecrow man and murderous #ghosts. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series and seeing how it all concludes.

I am so hit or miss with this series. This was okay. I didn‘t care for the super abrupt ending with Ollie. I did like that Brian was able to be more of the focus and be useful, we also got a new character Phil. Overall the story jumps very quickly to the spooky stuff but unfortunately it didn‘t feel supernatural, it was just a giant “monster”. The spooky vibes just were not there, making this kind of boring.

Ugh! That ending! I'm glad the fourth book is coming out soon because that was one doozy of a cliff hanger.

Going to go to bed and curl up with this book to end my evening. This is book three in the series and although it takes place in spring, I figure this spooky water-centered middle grade book is the perfect transition to darker autumn reads.

RosePressedPages I just finished this one! The whole series was a great prelude to fall🍂🎃 2y

Ollie, Brian, and Coco are on edge after the events of Dead Voices now that they know the Smiling Man is far from done with them. To try and relax, they decide to spend the day sailing on Lake Champlain. But things turn dangerous fast when their boat sinks and they are stranded on an island. Soon they realize they are being hunted…This was a great third addition! It didn‘t feel as strong as the first two, but I‘m looking forward to the last book!

I delayed my work day by a little bit this morning in order to finish this book in honor of @MatchlessMarie and her #33by33 birthday Readathon 🎂

This was a middle grade novel about a group of kids who have been fighting a mysterious enemy. I started in the middle of the series, but liked it enough to start at the beginning with my 10 year old. #RoaringWolf #NauticalNovember #Shipwreck

Why are parents always so useless in these books?? 🤣

Roary47 Awesome! I have trouble realizing things are series‘ sometimes too. 😅 2y
Bookwormjillk @Roary47 I was just searching for something about Lake Champlain monsters! A happy accident. 2y

Even though the third book in the series has some great and spooky moments, and also develops its characters and the main storyline, it's only a slight pick for me. That's because it leaves me somewhat unsatisfied. The whole book feels rushed, and more like a volume 2.5 than a part 3. Well, let's see what the fourth instalment will bring.

Middle grade horror. Book 3 in Small Spaces series. Quite scary. Short, quick read.

Danny says it‘s annoying when the cover image doesn‘t match the descriptions in the book (does that look like a giant, frilled water snake with an asp-like head to you?). This was good, if not as good as the first and second books. I‘m mad I have to wait for the last book now! #SeriesRead2021 @TheSpineView

3rd of 4 in a short, middle-grade spooky series. Each book is set in a different season so far (this one in spring) but it has ghosts, lake monsters, axe-wielding men, + the general Halloween feel from bk 1 definitely spills over! 🎃👻

Counting as a Halloween read for #scarathlon #teamslaughter and for a bunch of readathons! (See below ⬇️)

I‘m using a spreadsheet to tally points, so I think I‘ll put those all on my report post, if that works!

This is the third installment in the slightly creepy middle grade series. And I enjoyed it. It's the shortest and has the most abrupt ending of the three. I want the next one.

Ollie, Coco, and Brian are on their third adventure trying to escape the smiling man and his schemes. This time they go sailing with Ollie‘s dad and Coco‘s mom as well as another friend where they end up on a maybe? deserted island beyond the mist where they are hunted by a sea creature as well. This was not as riveting as the first two IMO. It was fun, but it just didn‘t have the same gripping elements and so I was a little bit disappointed.

While I didn‘t find it quite as spooky as the other two books in the series, it was still a lot of fun. I was a bit worried about things ending too fast and things not being resolved, but it does end with a good cliffhanger, so it ended up working well. Excited for the next in the series. #20in4

Nooo!! I feel like I waited so long for this book to come out and now I'm right back where I started, dying for the next one to be released. Dark Waters is another fantastically creepy, spine tingling read. The same characters are back, who I've grown to know and love I really found all of these books to be great, but I think this one may be my favorite yet. I really enjoyed the castaway setting & it had a phenomenal, semi-cliffhanger ending.

Today‘s book haul. Love, love, love Arden‘s middle grade series. The other book is a biography of E.M. Forster. Onto the TBR pile they go!
