Fifty Shades of Grey | James

This is what I immediately thought of for #StalkerKindOfLove - I read the first book when literally everyone seemed to be reading it (including my grandma) but I could barely get through it - to me it‘s so badly written and their relationship is seriously destructive. I can‘t believe the series and film are so successful but I don‘t like to judge other people‘s tastes so I‘m glad some do like it I guess !

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m with you, I read it then too. And I felt like it was Red Flag city, I was waiting for her to be kidnapped and sold into slavery somewhere (like Taken), but I read the whole original trilogy hoping I‘d at least understand the fervor, and I do.. it‘s the kinky sex, the rest is just horrible writing and bad relationships. 8y

Christine11 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Totally agree with you - the whole relationship seemed so abusive and like you say, it must be the sex that makes it so popular because it can‘t be the awful writing, plus none of the characters were even vaguely likeable least of all the main two ! 😊 8y

julesG It was my first thought, too. I'm grossing myself out reading 'Darker' right now, second book from Christian's POV. It's soo bad, it isn't even a #guiltypleasure. 8y

julesG @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I think EL James was lucky to be able to make it to mass market. There are far better kinky books out there and were on the market before 50 Grades of Shame. It helped make Literotica popular but it is definitely not the first, nor the best, series on the market. 8y

Christine11 @julesG I‘m not sure I could handle hearing his point of view - hers was annoying enough ! You‘re totally right - it‘s not a genre I read a lot of but I‘m betting there are really well written or at least more enjoyable books and I feel bad for those authors that Fifty Shades has been so overwhelming successful! 8y
