Listening to the tagged and weeding the front yard. I don‘t think I have time to finish today, but I‘m holding off on my month end wrap up just in case.

The Keep | F. Paul Wilson

Pickpick

What‘s not to love in this. Eastern Europe, a keep, and a vampire with a taste for Nazi blood.

Would love to find more of F. Paul Wilson‘s work, I‘ve seldom seen anything from him in Australia.

The Dead and the Dark | Courtney Gould

Mehso-so

I liked that this book went in a different direction with the paranormal aspect. I liked the characters for the most part. It was atmospheric, but sometimes it would get a little heavy on describing the atmosphere when I really needed something to happen. I also wanted a little more of a bread crumb trail to what was happening instead of just all at the end. I enjoyed the build-up, and this one felt slow, then info dump at the end. 3/5

Welcome to the #LosersClub open discussion for #thedeadzone
Please be mindful of spoilers. We have new readers to King who haven‘t read all of his books. When referencing his other work, please keep this in mind for our new-to-King friends. Don‘t forget to tag each other in the comments so your friends can see your reply. Have fun!

TieDyeDude I listened to this on audio, narrated by James Franco. It was a tough listen because Franco sounded completely uninterested. I really enjoyed the foreshadowing used by King, like the seemingly random lightning rod salesman. It was a long road to get to the events of the conclusion, but I loved the ride. I'd like to re-read a physical copy in the future; I feel like I'd like it even more without Franco's droning... 2d
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude ugh how disappointing! 2d
Bookwormjillk SHOOT! I accidentally got The Dark Half instead. I always mix those up. 😂

Not finished yet but I'm enjoying it. Re-read The Dead Zone a few years back and liked that too.

Bklover This is one of my favorites. Not sure why, except I remember reading it when it first came out. I loved it then, (I was 19), and I still reread it occasionally. It still holds up as one of my favorites. 1d

This Cursed House | Del Sandeen

Pickpick

There aren‘t many surprises in this ghost story. Pretty early on, we know what happened in the past, and how it has affected a family‘s lives whose ancestors committed unspeakable crimes. In Ms Sandeen‘s capable hands, I didn‘t care; she writes so well, and creates such deep characters!

With her Chicago life in ruins, Jermaine Barker accepts job offer from the Duchovny family that seems too good to be true and of course it is — breaking a curse.

BookmarkTavern What a gorgeous cover! 6d
CaitlinR @BookmarkTavern I liked it too! 5d

Pickpick

I think I expected this book to be more typical romance and/or horror. It wasn‘t that, but it was all the better for it. The characterizations were complex, plot slow at points but ultimately impactful, richly depicted settings, with a dash of the philosophical. I enjoyed it immensely.
