I‘ve given it WAY too much thought, and come up with this for my #booketlist @RaeLovesToRead

It‘s a mixture of books that have been on my shelves FOREVER, but I haven‘t read because I‘m saving them for best (!?), some non-fiction that I‘ve always wanted to read, but had to go out and buy first (thank you 🙃) a couple (or 4) that i‘d started/loved, but disappeared into my overwhelm and disorganisation, and Armorel of Lyonesse because why not?

RaeLovesToRead Aww, lovely! I also keep saving books "for best" ? I'm going to try and just read them ? 12mo
rockpools @RaeLovesToRead It seems to be a very unhelpful habit I‘ve fallen into over the years. If I can get all 10 done by next April, I‘ll be v happy! (edited) 12mo
RaeLovesToRead That's the beauty of the Booket list! Makes you think about which books you truly want to read! 🥰🥰 12mo

Since the tagged is, sadly, not out yet, here‘s a running #booketlist of 1) books on my shelf that are literally calling to me + 2) books to library hold.
Lists = ❤️ and since I already have monthly lists of Shame (#roll100‘s reminder to Read the Books I Own😅) and whimsy (#bookspin), I love the idea of using this quarterly to remind myself of books I put on my tbr (or *cough*bought*cough*) bc something about them really grabbed me!
#booket001

RaeLovesToRead I've got 3 & 4 on my shelf too! Particularly excited about 4! Anything by Emily St. John Mandel is pretty special. My fave being the Glass Hotel. I will definitely be repeating this when I've read my priority picks 😁😁😁 It has been a big reminder to READ THE SECRET HISTORY!!!!! And to find out what happens to Fitz and the Fool. 12mo
Larkken @RaeLovesToRead St. John Mandel has been excellent! I have been working my way through her backlist and found this at the used bookstore like half a year ago… so of course it has been glaring at me from my bookshelf ever since rather than me just reading it already lol. This is a good exercise!! 12mo

1. The Quincunx by Charles Palliser
2. Birnam Wood by Eleanor Chatten
3. Sugar Money by Jane Harris
4. Shrines of Gaity by Kate Atkinson
5. War and Peace by Tolstoy
6. John Caldigate by Anthony Trollope

Based on books I own IRL. Tough choices! 😅 Glad it‘s all hypothetical. #booketlist

BarbaraBB I‘ve read the first two and they are perfect choices! 12mo
BarbaraBB Oh and the Tolstoj. Also a good one to end the world with! (edited) 12mo
Ruthiella @BarbaraBB I tried to pick long ones! 😂 Sadly, many have been on my shelf for years and I still have not read them. 12mo

dabbe @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks It was! I chose some serious chunksters, too! I will get to these, I hope ... someday! 🤣 12mo
RaeLovesToRead 1, 5 and 7 on my TBR too! 12mo

RaeLovesToRead And 4! The Princess Bride is really good, but A Brief History of Time I pored over for ages and was still no closer to understanding quantum physics or the space-time continuum 😅😅 12mo
TheBookHippie The wind in the willows is such fun! Don Quixote is very good as well. 12mo
TheBookHippie Oh and Woolf!!! So good! 12mo
Cupcake12 Great question! This could take some time for me to work out! 12mo
batsy Ooh, great list. Shakespeare, Woolf, Sagan! And I adore The Wind in the Willows. 12mo

Just as you are all pondering your booket lists... THE APOCALYPSE HAPPENS and you've got to be pretty quick in selecting which books to take on the dystopian adventure / journey / Triffid-avoiding hike you're about to go on...

Which books get thrown in the rucksack?!

#ihavequestions

(Disclaimer: No books were harmed in the making of this thought experiment ❤)

UPDATE: OK you can have 15. It's a big rucksack...🤣🤣

RaeLovesToRead @The_Penniless_Author meant to tag you too! 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 13mo
dabbe I'm still pondering! Guess I wouldn't last long in the apocalypse! 🤣 I promise to post today! 🤗 13mo

The_Penniless_Author Sure you did, Rae. Sure you did 😑 13mo
RaeLovesToRead @dabbe This is for books you want to save, whereas #booketlist is for books you want to read (probably new books!) 😀 Feel free to answer both, either or neither! 13mo
dabbe Wow! I've got some homework to do! #loveit 💚 13mo
RaeLovesToRead @dabbe Hehe... Actually, I will allow 15 for this one... and this definitely has nothing to do with the fact that I just ran around my room gathering apocalypse books and realised I couldn't choose. Nope. Definitely wasn't that 🤭😶😏 13mo
dabbe @RaeLovesToRead 🤣🤣🤣 13mo
julesG Well.... I have 6 Kindle. So, six Kindle filled to bursting, three solar charging units, one large powerbank. Cables fit in my trouser pocket. Bam!!! 😈🤣🤣🤣 13mo
jenniferw88 Are you counting series as one or individually? 13mo
RaeLovesToRead @julesG It's the end of the world!!! No electricity! No sunshine!!!!! Think The Road by Cormac McCarthy... (nice try, though 😉) 13mo
RaeLovesToRead @jenniferw88 For this one, just actual physical books! (For #booketlist I count non-standalone series as one) Feel free to interpret however you like though 😁 13mo
CBee Ooooo now this one I think I can do! 12mo
AvidReader25 This is the hardest question!!! 12mo
batsy Aaaargh (the sound of me screaming as I try to chuck only 15 books into the rucksack...) 12mo
Branwen This is an absolute nightmare scenario! 😱😂 12mo
Larkken @julesG this was my immediate thought… and now I have to actually pick physical books that are in my possession? oof 12mo
RaeLovesToRead @Larkken Bwah ha haaaaaa 😈😁🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿don't mind me sitting here with the popcorn! (Although I keep remembering other books that I can't cope without!!) 12mo

#booketlist Ok, @RaeLovesToRead , you asked for it. A very unscientific list, in no particular order:

1. My Phantoms- Gwendoline Riley
2. Perdido Street Station- China Mieville
3. White Noise - Don Delillo
4. The Lady Killer- Masako Togawa
5. Dandelion Wine- Ray Bradbury
6. Turtle Diary- Russell Hoban
7. A Drinking Life- Pete Hamill
8. Escape Velocity- Charles Portis
9. Jailbird- Kurt Vonnegut
10. Piranesi- Susanna Clarke

RaeLovesToRead Yes! These are your to-readables, yeah?? Let me process.... I am also planning on read the Togawa and the Mieville (have them on my shelves now!) 13mo
RaeLovesToRead Have 1 on my Kindle and also want to read 3 & 5 13mo
RaeLovesToRead Have read Piranesi. It's good, but not as good as, say, buying a book on actual Piranesi and looking through his gorgeous drawings. It was OK, but not booketlist material 13mo

RaeLovesToRead If the world is ending, grab something else is what I'm saying! 13mo
The_Penniless_Author @RaeLovesToRead I mean, if the world were ending I would read my ten favorite books over again, not something new. These are just ten books I'm planning on reading in the near future. 13mo
monalyisha I absolutely adore Dandelion Wine! White Noise is one of the few books I‘ve read (voluntarily) more than once. It‘s been awhile now but it‘s one that digs its claws into you. Both Piranesi & Turtle Diary are on my TBR. Great list! 12mo
The_Penniless_Author @monalyisha Dandelion Wine has been my wife's favorite book (or at least one of her favorites) for years. It's one of those books I've been meaning to read forever, but every time it creeps up to the top of my TBR something else comes along to distract me. I'm making finishing it one of my 2023 resolutions! 12mo
monalyisha @The_Penniless_Author I think late summer is a pretty perfect time to read it…but really, whenever you can! 12mo

Fickle Rae has decided that she needs these two on her #booketlist

But which to oust in favour?

Bye bye Captain Corelli... and... oh no! I'm stuck!

Why do I set these challenges 😭😅

Branwen Okay, Babel is SO SO GOOD! You NEED to keep that one! 12mo
RaeLovesToRead @Branwen I saw the map of Babel and nearly swooned 🥰🥰 12mo
