Murder at the Mena House | Erica Ruth Neubauer
post image

I have been deep in the writing cave, but the draft of the next book is finished and I‘m able to share some of my Covid isolation reads.

Murder at the Mena House takes place in a posh Cairo hotel.

Jane Wunderly accompanies her Aunt Millie to Egypt and finds mystery and murder.

The first three were my long weekend reads at lovely Orford.
Where i got them: 1 ARC, 1 Xmas gift, 1 library loan, 1@bookabuy, 1@littlelibrary, 2 that I purchased. Three writers from my visit to Adelaide Writers Festival #adlww

Seems like 2019 may be the year of the graphic novel for me. It‘s not a genre that I‘ve previously read. It started with the beautiful Christmas present (left) from my lovely son which needs no explanation. Cassandra Darke was fantastic, loved her contrariness. And I loved that the cover brought to mind Ignatius from paperback cover of Confederacy of Dunces, a long ago read.

First two reads of 2019. Reading selections from the #TBR pile. Mary Bennett yet another Austen ‘sequel‘. Interesting but I didn‘t like the way the best loved characters were portrayed, although most lived ‘Happily ever after‘ by the end.
Really enjoyed The Fall, kept me guessing.

Finally I can sit out & enjoy the cool breeze while sipping & reading... I found this bottle of wine at Wegmans, in Glen Mills, PA... It is a local wine from Sorrenti Estate, in PA... A little sweet but soooo refreshing...

This was a super quick read but I wasn‘t in the edge of my seat (a sign of a good thriller) and I found the characters weren‘t really deep enough for me. There were a couple of good, unexpected twists, but I felt that the very last chapter was a bit of an unnecessary stretch. Not bad but not great.
