I Capture the Castle | Dodie Smith
post image
Pickpick

“I Capture the Castle” by Dodie Smith. Reread after I don‘t know, 10 years? And just as beautifully heart-wrenching, but also delightfully comical, and sweet as it was when I first read it. I only wish I‘ve first read it when I was 17. Complicated family dynamics, social commentary, coming of age, first happiness, and heartbreak! All set to the backdrop of English countryside. I love this book so much. Planning to rewatch the movie soon as well.

batsy One of my favourites 💜 1w

dabbe I bawled at #3! I'm making a list, checking it twice, and I'll make it available to all whether naughty or nice! 😂 Thanks for sharing. 💚💙💚 2w
monalyisha @dabbe Natalie Babbitt was a master of her craft. And children‘s literature that makes you sob is my favorite. 😅 Don‘t get me started on Bridge to Terabithia… 2w

Twelve-year-old Elizabeth is sent to spend the summer with her distracted, scholarly aunt at a Scottish manor house and finds herself mysteriously able to interact with the 18th-century family who once lived there.

“Time-slip” stories were a huge childhood favourite of mine and this 1975 novel is such a good addition to the genre.

elkeOriginal Sounds delightful! 2w
slategreyskies I really should pose more of my books with some of my Blackwings. Love them! 2w

A bit of I Capture The Castle plus some Austen heroines. Our beautiful heroine is determined to marry rich to help save her family's crumbling estate, but her overly forthright tongue keeps frightening away prospects. When a handsome baron and his financially savvy cousin come to town, things are looking up - even if one of them is terribly annoying with his bluntness...

Kate Morton novels are stories to be savored. They are beautifully written and full of intriguing characters and gently twisting plots that keep you turning those many, many pages. I loved this story and the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 🌟 is just how loooonnnggg and somewhat draggy it felt at times. But it‘s still beautiful. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I re-read this for #authoramonth because I‘d already read all of Kate Morton‘s works. Loved it just as much as the first time! The writing is so good! The atmosphere and mystery too!

Yes to both and my favorite gift to give aside from a book is themed items. Example: if someone really liked throne of glass I might send them a necklace or peace of jewelry similar to one described in the books. Otherwise bookmarks are an easy go to. #two4tuesday

I feel like this book should be right up my alley, but I‘m just not feeling it at all. My Christmas gift to me is to bail. 😄 Maybe it‘s a timing thing.

@Soubhiville Thank you for hosting this no-pressure challenge each year!

Soubhiville You deserve to finish the year with a book you like! I say bail away! 3mo
Bookzombie @Soubhiville Thanks! I hope your travels have gone smoothly. 3mo
