Opening pages to my new commonplacebook set up. Love the steampunk children I found on a free site online. The catalog site is authentic. The washi tape is actually silk ribbon, made by Martha Stewart.
I left my fingers in the shot because I realized I hyperextended them by simply placing them on the pages to hold them open. Created an interesting Ehlers-Danlos illustration without meaning to do so. #bucketlist #commonplacebook #journal

LinesUponAPage Gorgeous end papers!! Enjoy creating in it! 4y
Carla @lifeisasnap I added those end papers myself. Thanks! I think I might do the same for the other end...They really are a reprint of a old catalog page...see the pens, the dictionary, and the bookseller? I love stuff like that. 4y

How do you keep your reading journal? How do you decide what to add and what can go? I‘m starting a reading journal/commonplace book to help me keep track of what I‘ve read and keep notes on the books I may need or want to cite later. I‘m not sure HOW I‘m actually keeping the journal just yet. I‘ve come up with some tagging I‘ll use, but other than that I‘m still unsure how it‘s actually going to work out. I‘m just curious what other littens do.

Here is a link to the tagging system I‘ll be using. I‘ve tested it and it actually works really well. https://tinyurl.com/y9x8evcn

GingerAntics @Lmstraubie how do you go about keeping your reading journal? 5y

GingerAntics @Birdsong28 is that a book of instructions? 😳 That‘s daunting. 5y
Birdsong28 @GingerAntics No it's not instructions, it's a journal 5y
GingerAntics @Birdsong28 that‘s a relief. Is it all lists or is there room for notes? I definitely need room for notes. 5y
Birdsong28 @GingerAntics I'm not sure, I think there might be. I have only briefly looked through one. 📚📖 5y
GingerAntics @Birdsong28 I‘ll have to look into it. I need to be able to keep notes for the world of Shakespeare and nonfiction. 5y
Freespirit Hi #GingerAntics I log all completed books and ones I want to read with Goodreads. This year I also bought A Reading Log by Book Riot that includes challenges and room for notes and quotes. Not sure how it will go but I'm sure being a member of Litsy will inspire me😊😊 (edited) 5y
Lmstraubie Hi @GingerAntics For the past two years I've kept a list in a notebook separating titles by adult books, audiobooks, rereads, middle-grade/YA, but it hasn't given me much insight, just a list of books. I'm looking for a new strategy this year, but haven't decided yet. @Freespirit I also got the @bookriot journal, but it definitely won't be my main source of recording my reading. 5y
GingerAntics @Freespirit @Lmstraubie I have a notebook I‘m planning on using. I may get one with grid lines instead of just lines so it‘s easier to tag the edges, but I know each book is getting an entry, with the citation for it at the top...after that I think it will depend on the book in question as to what comes next. History books need different notes than psychology, and that‘s different still to Shakespeare, and all of that is different to novels. 5y
GingerAntics @Freespirit @Lmstraubie Luckily (and unfortunately) there is no wrong way to do any of this. 5y
BeansPage I'll post pics for you... 5y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid oh you keep one too? I‘m never quite sure who does and who doesn‘t. 5y
BeansPage Of course I keep one silly. I have to keep track of all my craziness 🤪🤪🤪 5y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid oh my god I feel like I‘m talking to myself in someone else‘s body right now!!! 🥰😍🥰 Litsy is way better than any other social media platform!!! 5y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid @Freespirit @Lmstraubie I have to say, the strangest way I recorded this year‘s reading was a snapchat story (yes really). I tried keeping a digital record, but it forgot or didn‘t want to stop before the next book about half way through. I‘m hoping a written record will help me take the time to reflect...if nothing else, keeping a better record of my history books and Shakespeare plays will be easier this way, I think. (edited) 5y
BeansPage Mine is a little artsy but I really like it. I hope this helps give you some ideas 🤗 5y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid It definitely helps. I hadn‘t thought of keeping a monthly list. From that, you could have a master list at the end of the year if you really wanted to. (edited) 5y
BeansPage Yup! 😉😉😉 5y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid LOVING these little tidbits I hadn‘t thought of before. I‘m glad I asked this question. 5y
BeansPage 😘🤗😘 5y
ravenlee I started a journal this year (other attempts have failed, but this one seems to work for me). It‘s simple, divided by month. I list start/end dates (sometimes approx.); title/author; page number; genre. Then I give it a rating out of ten, then one line of plus and one line of minus. It keeps me brief and makes it easier to keep it going. 5y
Freespirit I like the idea of writing it in a journal rather than online @GingerAntics . Nice to hear what everybody else thinks xx 5y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid @ravenlee I actually have this notebook three ring binder hybrid (it‘s hard to explain) that I suddenly thought of. I could shift pages around as necessary and then put it in a permanent binder or I could tie them together for safe keeping at the end of the year. Thoughts on this? 5y
BeansPage I think that sounds great. What it all boils down to is whatever works for you is what is going to work. Everybody can give you suggestions and ideas until they're blue in the face but until you find your niche it's just not going to work. I mean we're talking about self discipline here in keeping a tracking journal. 😁 5y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid true. I‘m such a perfectionist, I think I‘m drawn to the idea of being able to shift things around if need be. I would think that would make me feel better in the end. The only reason I‘m not a fan of the idea is that the end product isn‘t going to be as nice looking, but that should really be secondary. I could even digitise it into a PDF if I wanted, at that point. I think I‘m going to give that a shot. Here‘s hoping. 🤞🏻 5y
BeansPage Remember you can always put the tentative ones in in pencil instead of using pen and then go over them later in pain so that way it looks nice in the end 5y
BeansPage *pen 5y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid there is always that. I‘m not so sure about the “notes” book I have. It‘s a nice hardcover book, but the lines don‘t go all the way to the edge, so the tagging part will be more complicated than it would be if I used a different book. So many things to think about and so little time left to make decisions. 5y
BeansPage Amazon and Barnes and Noble and even Target or Walmart would have what you're looking for and then you can just pay stub templates inside of it the way I have done if that is what you want. You can make it work totally! 😁 5y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid pay stub templates? What are those for? I‘ve seen some books I would love to use, but unfortunately the beginning of the year is always really tight with how we get paid at work, so at this point I have to made do with what I have already. 5y
BeansPage *paste on templates.... sorry my phone is retarded with the talk-to-text feature. 5y
BeansPage And yeah I totally get it. I'm sure money for everybody is really tight right now. but this is a great opportunity for you to see what does work for you so that way you can improve upon it maybe next year? 5y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid push come to shove I have a reading journal/log set up in notes. I always intended to make it digital, so it would be searchable, later, so maybe I‘ll just end up trying to make digital work this year. I don‘t know. This is where I‘m just not even sure. 5y

• Remains of the Christmas crackers, and the four we are saving for New Year‘s, - can‘t take too much excitement at once.
• The whole fam is home for my entire block of time off, so outlook is not good.
• Tan.
• Bed,nightstands, dressers, bookcase, cedar chest. Our bedroom is two smaller bedrooms combined, so it‘s ridiculously and unnecessarily huge.

Book journal‘s coming along. ✌🏻📖🔮 The wisteria vines, inspired by “Practical Magic”, were both a pleasure & a challenge.

Velvetsun Love it. Wish I could make my journal look so pretty. 6y
monalyisha @Velvetsun I‘m great with children‘s crafts, which is comes in handy working in a children‘s library (give me glue sticks, construction paper, & googly eyes & I can make a “masterpiece”), but I don‘t draw well - so this is a very tentative attempt at broadening my artistic horizons! I bet you could do it! 6y

I started working on a thing today. 🤗 Mostly it just involved me swearing a lot while desperately trying not to smudge things, & making gratuitous use of a gum eraser. 🤷‍♀️

Special shout-out to @NHLibrarian for referring me to the tradition of commonplace books!

Crowcrumbs Love it! 6y

monalyisha @Louise Why, thank you! Wild I can get down with. It‘s the straight lines of the bookshelves on the next page that are giving me grief. 😅 #coloroutsidethelines 6y
Kamisha So pretty! 6y
Librariana I've read/heard some things about commonplace books over on the 'gram and I'd love to give them a try! 6y

Bullet Journal | Bujo International

My bullet journal was neglected in 2017. I don‘t have much to #ShowUsYourBujo My interests are better suited to commonplace book. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonplace_book
In 2016, I generated a list of books to read but some titles have been bumped because...well, #BlameItOnLitsy
#NewYearReads @bookloo @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I think I‘m going to buy a spiral one!! I‘m going to try it!! Lol 6y
Godmotherx5 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Maybe it was the book I purchased. I felt as if my bujo induced stress. Even while I had it, I kept going back to the commonplace book. A spiral notebook works well for me. Best of luck. (edited) 6y
SusanInTiburon @Godmotherx5 I‘m a commonplacer too! 🙂 6y

InLibrisVeritas I bought a bullet journal yesterday to try and after three hours of work I'm questioning if this is a good use of my time. 😂 6y
MaleficentBookDragon I didn‘t realize it before, but I‘m a commonplace too. 6y
Godmotherx5 @InLibrisVeritas I did not doubt it the first few weeks. You are ahead of the game. Give it a whirl, you may feel differently in time. 6y
Wife #commonplace too!🌹Now I know! 6y
MeganAnn Yes! I'm a commonplacer too! 6y
emtobiasz I've always just called mine a journal, but commonplace book fits mine pretty well too! 6y
Godmotherx5 @Wife @MeganAnn @emtobiasz Fun to see how common these types of journals are amongst readers. 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks How did you like ? 6y
Godmotherx5 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I liked it a lot. After a ton of hype, I was skeptical. I enjoyed enough to “make” my mom read it. We had a good discussion about the book. Did you read it or is it on your TBR? 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Godmotherx5 it‘s lost on my tbr shelf 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ 6y
Godmotherx5 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Ha! Happens to the best of us. 6y
