I just got on the Fable app and saw this. This is so cool. It says this about me. I‘m interested to see what else it‘ll say about me as this year goes by because the books I read this year might be different each month.

Today, I‘m sharing a photo collage I made for the physical books I own that I don‘t have audiobooks for. So far, I‘ve only read the first 2 books in this collage this year and I‘m really proud of myself. This year, I wasn‘t excited about reading my owned books but I‘m feeling excited again. I‘m hoping next year to focus on reading what I own but also continue mood reading. I tried mood reading this year and it worked out really well for me.

Just thought I'd share this with you all. I am a visual planner and while this may look like complete & utter chaos to some, it makes perfect sense to me! I have been taking a little time after work this week to review my year's reading so far & see where they fit into challenges. Each challenge has a color & the sticky notes let me reassign a book to a different prompt if necessary. Now if I could just figure out what to say about the books...

GondorGirl This is such a neat insight into your brain! I use a bullet journal and two notebooks to plan/track all my reading stuff. I'm sure we all have our weird ways of organizing. 3y

I have to read 5 more books before year‘s end to reach my Goodreads goal. Wasn‘t sure it was going to happen. However, last night I decided to take the week off of work and searched for thin books in my collection. Apart from cleaning the large downstairs Airbnb twice this week I‘ll be spending the rest of the time reading. Onward!!

SRWCF You can do it! 👊👊👊 3y

This year I‘ve decided to start up a reading journal again! A couple years ago I really enjoyed doing this but stopped due to issues with my hands. Even though my hands continue to bother me and will for the rest of my life, I decided to continue doing things I enjoy and just take breaks when needed.

What‘s something you enjoy other than reading?

Tamra Looks like a lovely morning! 4y
ravenlee What a great way to start the day! I enjoy knitting and crochet, and making music. I used to enjoy writing; maybe someday I‘ll pick that up again. For now I get to tell stories to the kiddo. 4y

On the left is my 2020 reading journal, rather worse for the wear. It was not very well bound, & I lost the front cover in Jan or Feb. The back cover fell off about a month ago. Nevertheless, it has plenty of space for thoughts and comments, no prompts (which I don‘t want), tho‘ there are a few literary quotes here & there, & most of all lots & lots of pages. So I purchased the same journal for 2021, pictured in the right.

I just signed up for The Story Graph- I‘m excited to have an alternative to try out that does not have an Amazon affiliation. I‘m hoping to explore it more and find some friends ❤️

Prairiegirl_reading It‘s pretty cool but I‘m still trying to figure out how to use it to its fullest. I didn‘t even know you could have friends! Lol! 4y

Chrissyreadit @ImperfectCJ yes! I‘m so excited to see what my graphs will look like! 4y
LibrarianRyan Mine could not. The file was too big. Had to do it from a desktop 4y
sprainedbrain @Chrissyreadit I had to do mine on my desktop as well. 4y
Chrissyreadit @sprainedbrain @LibrarianRyan it only counted 17 of my books for this year- but I want to see my graph for all the books I actually read (55) how do I change the dates? 4y
sprainedbrain @Chrissyreadit the goodreads import missed a lot of my books, too. They were still showing as ‘to read‘ instead of ‘read‘ even through my GR star rating came across to Storygraph. I went through my GR read books comparing them to Storygraph and manually marked the books as read with the date finished. Don‘t forget the date finished or your stats won‘t be correct. 😬 4y

As a kid, I wasn't a reader! In college, I only read textbooks! In my late 20s...I got acquainted to books (One Fine Day and Shantram) were my first two non fictions books, I fell in love with! Ever since....I haven't looked back! I enjoy reading because it stimulates my mind, I'm always learning. What's your story? When did you fell in love with reading?

Crazeedi I fell in love with books as soon as I could hold them and turn pages, my mom told me even before I could read I would turn pages and pretend to read, and count the pages. Just always had to have books by my side 6y
RinaBrahmbhattBarot @Crazeedi that's so cool! That's one bookish kid you were :) 6y
BeansPage As a child my mother always read to me and I think that's the reason why I associate reading with comfort. I just love the way it feels when I read and it helps me to focus my brain. 🤪🤪🤪 6y
RavensCarm I have loved reading ever since I could! I was in the room (age 3) when she was teaching my older sister (age 5) how to read and we both picked it up at the same time!! When I was in elementary Schulz I would walk home from school, glasses askew and shoes usually untied, with my nose in a book! 6y
Crazeedi @TheReadingMermaid @RavensCarm yes, a reading family is comfort, and yes noses in books was a constant! I read with a flashlight under the covers, lol. My elementary librarian gave me access to the teachers library in 4th grade because the regular library books just didn't challenge me 6y

How do you keep your reading journal? How do you decide what to add and what can go? I‘m starting a reading journal/commonplace book to help me keep track of what I‘ve read and keep notes on the books I may need or want to cite later. I‘m not sure HOW I‘m actually keeping the journal just yet. I‘ve come up with some tagging I‘ll use, but other than that I‘m still unsure how it‘s actually going to work out. I‘m just curious what other littens do.

GingerAntics #readingjournal #commonplacebook #readinglog #suggestionswelcome #help
Here is a link to the tagging system I‘ll be using. I‘ve tested it and it actually works really well. https://tinyurl.com/y9x8evcn

GingerAntics @Lmstraubie how do you go about keeping your reading journal? 6y
See All 35 Comments
GingerAntics @Birdsong28 is that a book of instructions? 😳 That‘s daunting. 6y
Birdsong28 @GingerAntics No it's not instructions, it's a journal 6y
GingerAntics @Birdsong28 that‘s a relief. Is it all lists or is there room for notes? I definitely need room for notes. 6y
Birdsong28 @GingerAntics I'm not sure, I think there might be. I have only briefly looked through one. 📚📖 6y
GingerAntics @Birdsong28 I‘ll have to look into it. I need to be able to keep notes for the world of Shakespeare and nonfiction. 6y
Freespirit Hi #GingerAntics I log all completed books and ones I want to read with Goodreads. This year I also bought A Reading Log by Book Riot that includes challenges and room for notes and quotes. Not sure how it will go but I'm sure being a member of Litsy will inspire me😊😊 (edited) 6y
Lmstraubie Hi @GingerAntics For the past two years I've kept a list in a notebook separating titles by adult books, audiobooks, rereads, middle-grade/YA, but it hasn't given me much insight, just a list of books. I'm looking for a new strategy this year, but haven't decided yet. @Freespirit I also got the @bookriot journal, but it definitely won't be my main source of recording my reading. 6y
GingerAntics @Freespirit @Lmstraubie I have a notebook I‘m planning on using. I may get one with grid lines instead of just lines so it‘s easier to tag the edges, but I know each book is getting an entry, with the citation for it at the top...after that I think it will depend on the book in question as to what comes next. History books need different notes than psychology, and that‘s different still to Shakespeare, and all of that is different to novels. 6y
GingerAntics @Freespirit @Lmstraubie Luckily (and unfortunately) there is no wrong way to do any of this. 6y
BeansPage I'll post pics for you... 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid oh you keep one too? I‘m never quite sure who does and who doesn‘t. 6y
BeansPage Of course I keep one silly. I have to keep track of all my craziness 🤪🤪🤪 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid oh my god I feel like I‘m talking to myself in someone else‘s body right now!!! 🥰😍🥰 Litsy is way better than any other social media platform!!! 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid @Freespirit @Lmstraubie I have to say, the strangest way I recorded this year‘s reading was a snapchat story (yes really). I tried keeping a digital record, but it forgot or didn‘t want to stop before the next book about half way through. I‘m hoping a written record will help me take the time to reflect...if nothing else, keeping a better record of my history books and Shakespeare plays will be easier this way, I think. (edited) 6y
BeansPage Mine is a little artsy but I really like it. I hope this helps give you some ideas 🤗 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid It definitely helps. I hadn‘t thought of keeping a monthly list. From that, you could have a master list at the end of the year if you really wanted to. (edited) 6y
BeansPage Yup! 😉😉😉 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid LOVING these little tidbits I hadn‘t thought of before. I‘m glad I asked this question. 6y
BeansPage 😘🤗😘 6y
ravenlee I started a journal this year (other attempts have failed, but this one seems to work for me). It‘s simple, divided by month. I list start/end dates (sometimes approx.); title/author; page number; genre. Then I give it a rating out of ten, then one line of plus and one line of minus. It keeps me brief and makes it easier to keep it going. 6y
Freespirit I like the idea of writing it in a journal rather than online @GingerAntics . Nice to hear what everybody else thinks xx 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid @ravenlee I actually have this notebook three ring binder hybrid (it‘s hard to explain) that I suddenly thought of. I could shift pages around as necessary and then put it in a permanent binder or I could tie them together for safe keeping at the end of the year. Thoughts on this? 6y
BeansPage I think that sounds great. What it all boils down to is whatever works for you is what is going to work. Everybody can give you suggestions and ideas until they're blue in the face but until you find your niche it's just not going to work. I mean we're talking about self discipline here in keeping a tracking journal. 😁 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid true. I‘m such a perfectionist, I think I‘m drawn to the idea of being able to shift things around if need be. I would think that would make me feel better in the end. The only reason I‘m not a fan of the idea is that the end product isn‘t going to be as nice looking, but that should really be secondary. I could even digitise it into a PDF if I wanted, at that point. I think I‘m going to give that a shot. Here‘s hoping. 🤞🏻 6y
BeansPage Remember you can always put the tentative ones in in pencil instead of using pen and then go over them later in pain so that way it looks nice in the end 6y
BeansPage *pen 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid there is always that. I‘m not so sure about the “notes” book I have. It‘s a nice hardcover book, but the lines don‘t go all the way to the edge, so the tagging part will be more complicated than it would be if I used a different book. So many things to think about and so little time left to make decisions. 6y
BeansPage Amazon and Barnes and Noble and even Target or Walmart would have what you're looking for and then you can just pay stub templates inside of it the way I have done if that is what you want. You can make it work totally! 😁 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid pay stub templates? What are those for? I‘ve seen some books I would love to use, but unfortunately the beginning of the year is always really tight with how we get paid at work, so at this point I have to made do with what I have already. 6y
BeansPage *paste on templates.... sorry my phone is retarded with the talk-to-text feature. 6y
BeansPage And yeah I totally get it. I'm sure money for everybody is really tight right now. but this is a great opportunity for you to see what does work for you so that way you can improve upon it maybe next year? 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid push come to shove I have a reading journal/log set up in notes. I always intended to make it digital, so it would be searchable, later, so maybe I‘ll just end up trying to make digital work this year. I don‘t know. This is where I‘m just not even sure. 6y

So, trying to decide how I want to track my reading for 2019. Littens please share what you do!

Traci1 I keep a little notebook that I record title, author, and date finished. I also record them in LibraryThing. I find that if I don't keep track on LT, I'll end up buying (and reading) books I've already read. 6y
JamieArc I use GoodReads for a lot of tracking. But I‘m a spreadsheet dork so I keep extensive tracking on spreadsheets. I‘m a bullet journaler, but surprisingly, I don‘t do any hand-written tracking. 6y
