Every day little stories injected with a good dose of "WTF" as their individual futuristic and sometimes dystopian contexts unfold. Such a fun read! For fans of #SomePossibleSolutions by #HelenPhillips, the short stories of #KarenRussell, old school Twilight Zone, Black Mirror on Netflix... oh and if you're into kink, there's a story in here that you might find. Very intriguing ?

Probably the best coming-of-age novel I've ever read. As someone who deals with depression & anxiety/panic disorders, I often find myself at odds with myself more than anything else. This book captures that feeling. That raw, broken, bleeding on the inside despair. I'm crying but it's a cry of release & relief. And while I've never self-harmed, I truly understand now what could cause someone to do so. 5🌟

Megabooks Great review! #ebc 8y

This book was really interesting and the perfect thing to pick up when you're in a funk. I don't often read about reading, but I enjoy it. This will make me think about what I'm seeing when I read from here on out.

Although there weren't spoilers, I wished I'd read Anna Karenina and To the Lighthouse before reading this as he refers to them often. I've read Ulysses, so I could appreciate what he was saying about Buck Mulligan.

ImaginativeMom I enjoyed this one, too. 😊 8y
MrBook Nice review 😊👍🏻. 8y

By now y'all know what I do when I'm nervous: read short story collections!!! These are the three I'm reading now. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! #ebc #shortstorylove

tpixie Book riot had an article about 16 books we should read this fall and about three of them were short stories 8y
Eyelit Have you already read Vonnegut's collections of short stories? If no, I highly recommend those. Otherwise I'd recommend Angela Carter's Bloody Chamber for reimagined fairy tale stories and Zombies vs Unicorns was pretty fun to read 8y
Megabooks Thank you @Notafraidofwords @Eyelit and @KarenUK ! I've made a lot of library recs! Unfortunately they don't already have any of them. 😞 (At least as ebooks.) Maybe soon though. They seem to like my recs, so fingers crossed! 8y
Megabooks @tpixie Thanks! I'll have to check it out! 8y
Megabooks By the way peeps, keep them coming. Surely the library will have some. 👍🏻 8y
tpixie 💜 8y
Megabooks @NovelGirl82 Thanks! I've read it twice this year during other nervous times. It's a great book. 😃 8y
NovelGirl82 It's one of my favorites! Have you read any of her other collections? 8y
BookishFeminist How about some of the best American short story collections? Those are usually solid. Also 8y
BookishFeminist Any of A.S. Byatt's short story collections. I'm reading this one now and loving it, kind of like Kelly Link 8y
BookishFeminist This one or her other one Almost Famous Women are two of my faves 8y
BookishFeminist I hope your nerves calm soon 💕 8y
Megabooks @NovelGirl82 No. My library doesn't have any others in Kindle format. 8y
Megabooks @BookishFeminist Thank you for the recs! Fortune smiles is the only one I've read. I'll have to check my library. A little calmer this weekend since I've figured out I won't hear about the job until Tuesday at least. For tonight I'm reading 8y
NovelGirl82 Oh bummer!! I am glad to see so many other short story lovers, though. They are my favorite, & I'm always looking for more! What about 8y
BookishFeminist @Ebooksandcooks Oh I'm glad to hear that! If you want any more recs if your library doesn't have those, let me know! Plenty more where that came from. :) Did you like Fortune Smiles? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you about the job. Waiting is the worst. Let me know how you're liking American Heiress! 8y
Megabooks @BookishFeminist Thanks for the crossed fingers and the recs!! 💚 I loved Fortune Smiles. I wrote a blog post about it during a throwback to my favorite books of 2015 week! So far American Heiress is great. I'm about to post a fun fact quote. He writes a lot of background, which I love in non-fiction, but it's only 329 pages on Kindle. 8y
Louise The Roald Dahl Omnibus! Any of Neil Gaiman's short story collections. 3 by Finney, by Jack Finney; and About Time, by Jack Finney. 8y

Just finished reading this book and I have so many mixed emotions. This book examines the death of Henrietta Lacks and the use of her cells to further science. Her cells were taken without her or her families knowledge and the discoveries and profits from her "immortal" cells are increasing till this day. Skloot also examines her family and how the loss of their mother and the discovery of her immortality has rocked their lives. This is an...

TheNextBook emotional read that brings up so many ethical questions. Skloot did a really great job respecting the family and examing the scientific process. Well done and extremely informative. 8y
Megabooks Sold! #ebc Added to TBR. Great review! 8y
TheNextBook @Ebooksandcooks Thanks! This is an easy one to recommend because her history is something that should be taught. I hope you enjoy. I wish I had read this sooner. 8y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great review! 8y
Centique I loved this too. Added bonus for me was the science was fascinating, as well as the ethical questions being so sobering. Great review :) 8y
LeeRHarry This is a fantastic book - I work in this field and therefore having been aware of HeLa cells throughout my career it was fascinating to read about the woman behind it all. I remember the book made me mad at times and sad at times but at all times it was a gem of a read 😊 8y
TheNextBook @Centique The way Skloot explained the science was really well done. She kept it light and still informative. @LeeRHarry I could only imagine what's it like to have a background for the cells you work with. Especially when you look at how her family views them. Great things are coming from them but the circumstances they were obtained give me pause. I'm glad we know her story and who she is now. 8y

Not sure if anyone but me and my freshmen philosophy prof will care, but just added this fascinating book to Serial Reader. Journey with Persian nobles Usbek and Rica into 18th century Paris as they grapple with culture shock and deal with unrest back home. One of my favorites from college.

This is my adorable husband perusing the Music section in Book Man/Book Woman, a treasured, old bookstore in Nashville's Hillsboro Village. It is a maze of precarious looking shelves and secret alcoves of new and gently used books. Good place to get lost. #getindie @Litsy

This is a must read, if you need some ammunition for the islamophobic in your life. The book is very structured and so very current. It really describes well the political climate that Muslims in the USA have to deal with these days and that Muslim bashing is very PC right now.

Sometime the book read a little like interview and speech transcripts. Nevertheless, I still recommend to pick it up!

Riveted_Reader_Melissa So glad to hear you liked it! I'm going to look for this one! 8y
