CatLass007 Thanks for sharing this. Looks intriguing. I have to stop staring at my screen right now but I‘ve saved it to read later. 8mo

It's possible that I bought this because I liked the cover. I used to buy a random book in an airport on my way home from traveling, usually nonfiction. I liked this. It's about literary criticism. The best part might be the verbal sparring between these women and their other contemporaries. They didn't hold a lot back.

I really wanted to like this, but it just wasn‘t as engaging as I was hoping. Never mind. Group biographies are a tricky beast. So hard to get right, but so hard to pin down what the problem is when they don‘t quite work.

I loved this book of mini biographies of smart, sharp and talented women writers from Dorothy Parker to Janet Malcolm. It was interesting to read about their lives and careers as well as their relationships to each other and feminism. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

batsy I've had this on my radar for awhile. Sounds really interesting! 5y

I must confess that much of the information in this book sailed over my head. Sharp is about women in the public eye who broke barriers with their writing, wit and intelligence. The author writes about such icons as Dorothy Parker, Rebecca West, Susan Sontag, Pauline Kael, Joan Didion, and Nora Ephron. Women who today might be called ‘thought leaders‘. Much discussion of feminism and how it evolved. Dry at times. 3.5 out of 5

Daria! Thank you for the fabulous and thoughtful #galentinesday gift! Galentine‘s has become something close to my heart (I was out late on a Galentine‘s date with some friends last night) and try to do something each year to celebrate (whether that‘s in a big or small way). Much love to you, friend!

batsy Ooh, I've had my eye on this for awhile! Perfect Galentine's gift. 5y

A compilation of mini biographies of women with sharp opinions and the relationships between these women. If the reader isn‘t interested in journalism, literature, or feminism, this will seem dry fare. However, these were intelligent women who had something of importance to say and they didn‘t feel the need to sugar coat it. Most had an ambivalent relationship with feminism.
