I loved the back and forth perspective/years. And the plot! Well done!

I can‘t seem to settle on my next book so I‘m going to see if a mystery will draw me in enough to stick with it.

LoverOfLearning Such a cool cover! 3d

#WhereAreYouMonday

Today I find myself in 1920s New York City. Optimism is in the air. The war to end all wars is over and Black Americans have more opportunity than ever in the North.

TheBookHippie One of my favorite Morrisons! 5d
Ruthiella @TheBookHippie I‘m on a mission to read all her novels! 5d
TheBookHippie @Ruthiella oh I can‘t wait to see what your favorites are!! I‘ve read them all. 5d

Ruthiella @TheBookHippie I don‘t know if any will top Beloved, the only one I‘ve read twice (so far). After this one I have four more to go. 5d
Ruthiella @TheBookHippie Do you have a favorite? Or top three? 🤔 4d
TheBookHippie @Ruthiella The Bluest Eye, Jazz & Song of Solomon. 4d
Billypar I really liked this one, though Beloved is at the top of my list too. Paradise is my 2nd favorite. The Bluest Eye is on my shelf so will finally read it this year. 4d
Ruthiella @Billypar Paradise will come after Jazz because I also own a copy. That‘s encouraging to hear it is a favorite of yours. I read The Bluest Eye in the ‘90s, so I really need to revisit it. 4d
Reggie I love Beloved sooooo much. But there are a couple of passages about a mom and then another about a sofa from The Bluest Eye that come back to me over and over again. 12h
Ruthiella @Reggie Beloved gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. I definitely need to re-read every thing up to then, however, because it‘s been 30 years since I first read them and I have very little memory of plot or scenes. 9h

Litsi
Swing: A Mystery | Rupert Holmes
Mehso-so

A grieving jazz man unravels a series of baffling events in 1940s San Francisco. You have to like music to enjoy this rather simple story. The audio book has a noir edge to the narration that was unearned. It calls itself a mystery but is more of a detective story. You could read this, or you could read something better.

3.5/5
Great way to discover Thelonious Monk's work and life. Solid introduction to this artist.
I enjoyed reading this graphic biography while listening to his music.
I didn't know Monk before, and I'm not well-acquainted with jazz, but I really enjoyed his music. Perfect reading companion.

catsuit_mango You might have given me the best gift idea for my partner... Now i need to search the flat to make sure the book did not already appear without me noticing ;) thanks 2mo
JulietteReadsALot @catsuit_mango Great! Glad it helped ;) It can be hard to choose gifts. 2mo
catsuit_mango @Adventures_of_a_French_Reader after i had ordered it, i found it hidden in a pile somewhere in the flat... :( sent it back but that was a very good idea ;) 2mo
