Overall, this was a compelling read examining class, race, and gender inequities in the academia and art worlds. It was also interesting to go down an internet rabbit hole learning about Ana Mendieta, the Cuban artist whose life (in part) inspired Anita de Monte‘s character. Anita‘s sections were passionate, vivid, and urgent; I thought they were the most impactful. 🎧 #reesesbookclub

👰🏻 This story takes place on a small Irish island where an extravagant wedding is about to take place. The only problem is that by the end of the night someone winds up murdered.
🤵🏼An excellent mystery that I could not stop reading after the first twist, & there are a lot of twists. My photo is from Wednesday night when I read with Nova past my bedtime to finish. Taken at La Posada in Winslow, Arizona.

I think this will be a breakout thriller of 2024! It‘s chock-full of action and surprises and the payoffs are smart and satisfying. The protagonist is such a badass. Fingers crossed Reese adapts this one for the screen! #BOTM #reesesbookclub

Today I met my first #JoyousJanuary goal and finished this book (with Nova‘s help). I read it with my sister and we both liked it.

It took a little while for me to get into this mystery, but the multiple twists at the end of the story made it worth it.
Read if you like an unlikely detective, or summer resident/year long resident class struggle stories.

Why is it that the reminder to slow down and enjoy what really matters to you in life never gets old? At times funny, at times poignant, this pulled at my heartstrings. Emma was a bit of a frustrating character and some parts felt repetitive with the time loop trope, but overall, this was a touching read (especially around the holidays) and a good prompt to remember that life is a precious gift. 🎧 #reesesbookclub

A moody, misty October read of nightmares and dreams, history and home. I liked Opal‘s character, our plucky protagonist - she‘s a scrappy survivor with a vulnerable softness underneath her hard exterior. The narrative got bogged down in the descriptions for me at times, but I think it would translate to the screen beautifully. The epilogue was the perfect icing on top. #BOTM #reesesbookclub

4.5⭐️ When I went back to see how I had reviewed this book a couple years ago, I was surprised to find that I had given it exactly the same rating as I did this time. But I think I appreciated the romance between Esme and Gareth a little more this time around than my first time reading it. #2023 #bookclub #reread #bookreview #wwi #fiction #historicalfiction #reesesbookclub
