Mehso-so

Zara is that obnoxious acquaintance who brags so loudly in mixed company about her sexual exploits that you suspect she actually never gets laid, but she grows on you. There are some very funny parts about absurd levels of competitive matchmaking by families as Zara tried to avoid any commitment at all, but the overall cheesiness of this rom-com made it a so-so for me. There is even a desperate airport love scene 🤢. #foodandlit #india

A day late for #india #foodandlit but wanted to share this horrifying, cringey moment when MC Zara's dad presents some random young man for inspection at a wedding celebration. I realize you get used to the culture you are brought up in, but if I had experienced 1/100th of the pressure to marry from my family as the people in this book, I would have moved across the country upon turning 18 and never come back. So much meddling!

Catsandbooks Definitely a different culture. My Indian friends have all had arranged marriages, but they still have a choice if they don't like someone. 2d
LitStephanie @Catsandbooks good to know. This wasn't about arranged marriages per se, just ridiculous, competitive match making by the Aunties. 9h

3 ⭐ This was a fun romcom of a vampire novel. There are things that I do find annoying. Our protagonist is a plus size lady like myself. She is constantly worried about her image and her size in particular. She believes that she needs to be thinner. This becomes a blockage in her mind for most of the story. Whether it‘s because someone couldn‘t like her for her size or how getting down on herself for her own size, harms other people.

LibrarianRyan Those portions of the story really annoy me. I was hoping this would have good fat representation, but the character is just so down on herself that it gets annoying with how often it happens. She does come to accept herself in the end because she‘s a vampire and will never be able to change the way that she looks but her size is mentioned, commented o,n made aware of, its just too much. Take all that stuff away and this book is otherwise pretty 3d
LibrarianRyan is otherwise pretty fun. She is made a vampire by her own accidental, exuberance and fooling around. This brings the vampire council to her door to tell her. Hey that‘s illegal. They do this by stealing her mother. While that is more the end of the book, the rest of the book is this hot guy who happens to write romance novels can never love her because she doesn‘t love herself. Overall, I liked the book and would be happy to read a sequel as long 3d
LibrarianRyan as they cut half of it out. I like this book when it focused on the romcom story. I didn‘t like this book when it focused on the weight of our main character. 3d
Jari-chan I totally get your points. Since I'm in recovery I've started to recognize all the fat shaming in our society. The scenes you mentioned would trigger me enormously. Happily, she at least learns to accept herself at the end 👍 1d

To me, this one seemed to have a deeper plot than Witch, Please did. History of the witch hunters with present day witches was promising and kept you invested. The “wow” moment though..not plausible. So much build up for a quick poof that was over in a page or two. It would‘ve been great if there was a bigger scene at the peak of conflict. Fun and flirty reads with a smidge of zing.

This was an entirely implausible, but nonetheless fun, romcom. It made for an entertaining diversion while I worked on Christmas gift knitting #audioknitting

I found this on my kindle when my original #FoodandLit India book wasn‘t holding my attention. It was billed as a romantic comedy but I found the issues associated with being gay in India a bit deeper than the billing implied.

Catsandbooks Great find! 🇮🇳 2w

Wow! Contro ogni aspettativa mi è piaciuto davvero tantissimo.

Still on my #dumbwitchjuice 😅 I‘m really enjoying this series of rom coms— witchy & light with some steamy bits driving the plot forward 🔥 still carrying my Agatha bio around, too. 🧐 Shamelessly reading these on my phone with it next to me.

Borderline a so-so but ultimately enjoyable. Some of the plot is mundane (no pun intended) but then when it moves, it is GOOD. I wasn‘t expecting the spice, so reading this at the doctors office was a hilarious experience. Now I‘m invested in the characters, so on to the next!
