Very dense, especially the last third or so. I can‘t say I‘ve read any other metabiographies, as the author describes the genre, so perhaps this is par for the course. I did learn some things, though.

If I was rating just on the merit of the bold, stylized illustrations, this graphic novel would get 5 ⭐️, but I found the approach to the narrative was really lacking.
I would have preferred a more even split between the biographical elements and the imaginary Glass Town. The silliness of the Glass Town characters‘ exploits took away too much from the reality of the Brontës‘ early lives. Maybe because the book‘s aimed at a young audience?

This just isn‘t the book for me. Strange and seemingly pointless, it is supposed to be about the Brontë sisters but is maybe in the present time? Glad it is off my #TBR. #BookspinBingo #JoyousJanuary @TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65

Got to page 71 and bailed.
The characters were bizarre and not in a good way. It was unrealistic, confusing, and quite poorly written.
The accidental killing of her ex husbands best friend with a frying pan (told you - bizarre) was just glossed over. WTF?!
I've had a bad run with books recently! 🙄
I‘m not really sure what I just listened to… this re-imagining of the Brontë sisters‘ (and brother & father‘s) lives certainly isn‘t what I expected. “Form-shattering” as the blurb states is quite apt. Each chapter shifts perspectives, & even time-periods, giving insight into proposed emails that Charlotte would write. I think I wanted something more based in fact, though I did listen throughout to see if the author pulled it together. She didn‘t.
Was initially distracted by the artwork of this graphic novel - it's a little scribbley & smudgy. But as I got into the narrative, I realised how it related to, and enhanced, the words telling the story. And what a fascinating & absorbing story it was. What sad, bleak lives those Brontë women endured - no wonder they retreated into their interior worlds. But then the imaginary became preferable to real life.... A really fantastic read.
Could cry! Had just settled into bed with my book & my cup of tea when my daughter, who is a die-hard cosleeper, rolled into me & I split my tea all over this gorgeous book! Gah, never spill tea on my waterproof Kindle, no. Just on real, porous, non-waterproof paper! 😭😭😭😭
Such a wonderful — and beautiful — look at the imaginations of the Brontë sisters (and their bother) as children! Isabel Greenberg is such an excellent #story-teller and artist. I really felt like I was stepping into the beginnings of genius.
