#rushrush makes me think of the #Windrush scandal so have a couple of books about that! #HeatofJuly @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB

Cinfhen Not familiar with the #WindRushScandal 6y
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen here you go - it's probably because I'm a UK Litten! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windrush_scandal 6y

Cinfhen Thanks for the history lesson 🤓 6y
MayJasper The #windrushscandal is another shameful episode for my country. The current government is trying to deport any one they can including people who are British who were invited here decades ago from the Caribbean. Disgraceful. 6y

Pickpick

The sound of me finishing this novel could easily be described as #rushrush 💨 I flew through the pages whenever I picked it up, I just loved the voice of Jane Steele! This is how a good retelling should be 👌

Mdargusch So glad you liked it as much as I did! 6y
Cinfhen I‘m glad it worked for you! Retellings can be tricky & gimmicky sometimes 🤓 6y

staci.reads I'm glad you liked it! I'm always leery of retellings, but I thought this one had unique qualities. It didn't try to follow the original too closely. 6y
BarbaraBB Sounds good! Are you up and running again? 6y
Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB I am! I had two days of feeling bad, but now it is only a cough, without pain or any discomfort, so that I can deal with 👍 6y
Kalalalatja @Mdargusch it really worked for me! I‘m a bit surprised, I hadn‘t expected much from it, but it was so good! @Cinfhen especially retellings of novels! Fairytale retellings often work better imo, but I often stay away from retellings of classics. I haven‘t read any of the Austen Project retellings, because all the reviews seem kinda meh 👎 6y
Kalalalatja @staci.reads I completely agree! It was its own story, but at the same time, I liked how Faye didn‘t try to hide how the book was inspired by Jane Eyre. Sometimes retellings often feel like they have to be seperated from the original, and that can be just as bad as times! 6y

On Gold Mountain | Lisa See
post image

This memoir centers on Lisa See‘s great grandfather, one of the few who realized the dream of coming to the U.S. and finding "Gold Mountain" (nickname for San Francisco, California, & used broadly by Chinese to refer to western regions of North America). After gold was found in the Sierra Nevada in 1848, thousands of Chinese from Guangdong travelled to the West in search of gold and riches during the California Gold Rush.
#HeatofJuly #rushrush

Cinfhen This sounds really fascinating! I love memoirs and I‘m sure Lisa See writes it beautifully! I‘ve already see I‘ve stacked it 😉 6y
BarbaraBB Great association, the Gold Rush! Smart 😉 6y

Hurry Up, Henry | Jennifer Lanthier

Pickpick

#HeatOfJuly Day 27: Perfect for #RushRush with Henry constantly being asked to “Hurry Up.” Henry is a young boy who prefers to take things easy; totally unlike most of his family who seem to have Type A personalities, who #Rushrush from one appointment to the next, always extra-vigilant about getting somewhere on time. Look at his savasana pose. I love. My Full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-hyo

Stand alone from the author - I much prefer his Tom Thorne series which is excellent!

Cinfhen This sounds good!!! And it #featuresAholiday which would work for #booked2018 #stacked 😊 6y
erzascarletbookgasm I read this, not bad. 🙂 6y
TrishB @erzascarletbookgasm I think because I love his Tom Thorne novels so much this one didn‘t impress me as much! But it still stood up as a good thriller. 6y
