SOMETHING HAPPENED | Joseph Heller

#getmovin #somethinglikethis
I've never read this, but the title cracks me up, so I think I'm going to have to at some point. Anyone read this? I've only ever read Catch-22 from Heller. @eanderson @Cinfhen

Leftcoastzen I absolutely love this book! 6y
Leftcoastzen I think it‘s an underrated masterpiece. 6y
Billypar @Leftcoastzen Ooh, very nice....I will have to check out then. And apparently, as I scroll down on the book's Litsy page, we had a conversation about it 9 months ago (though just the title, it seems). Is this what happens when you've been on Litsy long enough? 😂 6y

Leftcoastzen Yep ! 6y
Leftcoastzen Honestly, I read it years ago but it seems to catch a zeitgeist.A sense of the family unit is not as cohesive as it might appear,”This is not my beautiful house, this is not my beautiful wife”.... 6y
Billypar @Leftcoastzen Sounds good to me- and that description actually fits my current read very well, which (being written in 2012) seems like it's consciously reimagining those sorts of novels. The main character even thinks a homeless man he befriends might be Don Delillo 😏 6y
Leftcoastzen I think Franzens Corrections owes a lot to Something Happened . I will check that one out. 6y
BarbaraBB I have had this book for years too and still not read it. So your discussion encourages me! @Leftcoastzen @Billypar 6y
Leftcoastzen @BarbaraBB I‘ve been meaning to re-read it,I‘ll sure be embarrassed if it doesn‘t live up to my hype.🤔🤣 6y
Cinfhen Nope! But @Leftcoastzen has me semi interested 😉 6y

When you are cooking & find you're out of an ingredient & don't want to go to the store or you're trying to veganize a recipe or you just need something like this...something like Parmesan cheese, or something that tastes like chicken bouillon, or non-meat 'bacon' bits & you want to make your own rather than buy, these 3 kitchen reference books come in handy. Food Substations Bible is general, the others are vegan.🥄📚

Leftcoastzen Very handy! 6y

Cinfhen I‘m always searching and wondering!!!! Thanks for posting & sharing! So helpful 6y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen @Leftcoastzen Well you can go online for a lot of similar info too but sometimes you have to search through a lot & I like to pull out a book & do it old style! 😆👍 6y
Nu-Bibliophile I've been vegan for 10 years and I love it. I've already accumulated so many vegan cookbooks. 😉 6y
DebinHawaii @nu-bibliophile That's great. I eat about 70% vegan most weeks but I do supplement with fish & eggs. But cooking vegan food and vegan cookbooks are my favorites. 🤗 6y

#GetMovin #day10 #SomethingLikeThis If you‘re a fan of Elizabeth George‘s Inspector Lynley series, I highly recommend Peter Robinson‘s DCI Banks series. Both have been going for a long time(over 20 books in each)both are British crime novels(Banks in Yorkshire, Lynley is Scotland Yard)& both are highly readable. I‘d recommend starting at the beginning for both though, the story arcs for both really need to be read chronologically. So get reading!

Cinfhen Thanks for the recs!!! 6y

It has been a while since I read #somethinglikethis. As most of you probably know, the story is being told through interviews, case files, reports and all kinds of formats. And I‘m not really sure what I feel about it, but I‘m definitely interested!

That‘s Nanna in the background the youngest of the two dogs I‘m dogsitting for at the moment 🐶

#currentlyreading #GetMovin

Cinfhen I liked this one, especially the format 😍 6y
emilyhaldi Don‘t tell me that‘s part of your mom‘s property too?! 6y
Kalalalatja @emilyhaldi it is, she has a pretty little fish pond in her garden. I love reading there, it is so peaceful 👌 @Cinfhen I think I like it, but I need to get into it a bit more 👍 6y
Moray_Reads Sounds not dissimilar to 6y

#GetMovin Day 10: #SomethingLikeThis “Tree of Education” is found in my campus, the premiere teacher training institute in Singapore. Local and international guests usually come here to have their photo taken. Just two days ago, I gave a brief sharing to a group of professors from De La Salle University in Manila doing a benchmarking of their early childhood programmes. Naturally, they had their photo taken here.
