Pickpick

I had yet to read this one by Christie, so I was so glad the #GoldenAgeCrimeClub read this one this month! I‘m a few days late finishing!

Christie crafts such a dramatic, edge on your seat opening scene, that the reader has to find out what happens. As usual, Christie introduces clues and red herrings to keep one guessing. So good! #192025 #1957 #52BookClub23 #TimeInTheTitle

kwmg40 That opening scene is incredible! 5mo

I love both of Jodi Taylor‘s time travel series. I love all the historical details she includes, the laugh out loud moments and the madcap adventures. Her stories can get convoluted but I‘ve learned to just roll with it. I do recommend starting at the beginning of each series rather than hopping into the middle.

rmaclean4 I had forgotten about this series. Her writing is so fun. 13mo

You definitely don‘t need to be a ‘gamer‘ to love this book. It‘s about love and friendship. I read this chunkster (via audio) in 2 days. Excellent read. I was sad when it ended..

Mehso-so

Meh, another so-so one from the #tob shortlist. I know there‘s been lots of discussion around the MCs ‘face blindness‘ and I think it‘s to do with the disorientation of being a continually displaced refugee. However it made it very difficult to follow the storyline, particularly on audio when you can‘t flick back a few pages to remind yourself what‘s going on.

What were the judges on when they picked this shortlist?!

Ruthiella I‘ll definitely try to get this one in print. I know that the ToB organizers don‘t read all the books on either the short or longlist. So that‘s why we get a mixed bag o‘ books! 1y

rmaclean4 Thinking of skipping this one. I think I will wait and see if it makes it past the first round. 1y
sarahbarnes Another reassurance that I‘m probably going to skip this one. I really agree with you on the shortlist this year. 1y
Hooked_on_books They were smoking something strange, I think! And I thought the face blindness was bizarre since it was only for women. That felt sexist to me, as though women aren‘t important enough to recall. 😠 1y
LaraReads Sorry you didn‘t enjoy it. But great use of the prompt! ⏰ 1y
Megabooks Excellent review! 1y
jlhammar Hmmm, I've got this one checked out from the library, but not sure I'll get to it in time. We'll see. Maybe I'll just try a few pages and see if I want to commit. I've got Mouth to Mouth on audio up next. 1y
azulaco I feel this way about the #ToB shortlist every year. And yet I keep hoping that *this* is the year the judges make better choices. 1y
Cinfhen It‘s an interesting choice but not sure worthy of a shortlist placement 1y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A romance starring a true crime obsessed leading lady? I mean, this is just accurate. Have you met women? Why do we want to learn about this fucked up stuff? Anyway, suspicious of her late father‘s hot teacher guy neighbor, Phoebe almost blows her chance, but with time comes connection. Good banter, some open-door steam, plus a little Capote and Helter Skelter - what‘s not to enjoy?!

This was surprisingly available on my library‘s Libby page 😀🎉 It has a menacing undertone, dystopian - I‘m getting some similarities to Mouth to Mouth. I don‘t think I‘d be as engaged in print but on audio, it‘s keeping me hooked. I think you‘re listening now too @Megabooks ?!?! Curious to know your thoughts ❤️

Maria514626 I love the photo in the background! ❤️ 1y

Cinfhen Thank you!!! It‘s my FIL and his second wife @Maria514626 - she had just finished her chemo treatments 💕 1y
Cinfhen @Suet624 I‘m just trying to keep up with @Megabooks 😂😉 1y
Maria514626 I love that! The photo warms my heart. ❤️ 1y
Cinfhen It‘s a great picture @Maria514626 and sadly my FIL passed away this past September, almost 2 years after his wife finished her chemo treatments ☹️ Thank Gd she‘s in remission but sad to have lost her partner💔 1y
sarahbarnes I‘m curious about this one - will be interested to hear your review. I‘m reading Mouth to Mouth right now and loving it. 1y
Cinfhen I‘m oddly drawn to this book @sarahbarnes it‘s surprising me (in a good way) 1y
Ruthiella I‘ve long meant to read this by him as it‘s supposedly mind-bending? 1y
Maria514626 @cinfhen May his memory be a blessing. ❤️ 1y
BarbaraBB The comparison to Mouth To Mouth makes this a tempting read! 1y
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes Glad you‘re loving it. Looking forward to your review! 1y
sarahbarnes @BarbaraBB your review made me bump it up to the top of the pile! 1y
Cinfhen Thank you so much @Maria514626 🧡 1y
Cinfhen I haven‘t thought as this as mind bending @Ruthiella but it‘s actually a pretty good description- it‘s a hard book to describe. I‘m a little over half way through and the author is actually doing some cool things with the plot and storytelling. 1y
Cinfhen I‘m happy I was able to borrow the audio @BarbaraBB it‘s an interesting premise and I do think you‘d like this but wait to see if it makes the shortlist xx 1y
squirrelbrain I have this bookmarked on Scribd… I‘m saving it until next year as it fits one of the #52books prompts. The prompt is #timeinthetitle and I think it means the word ‘time‘ but I‘m going with 3am! 🤷‍♀️ 1y
Cinfhen No, your interpretation is perfect @squirrelbrain !!! But I‘ll be using this one thanks to our good friend @BarbaraBB 😜 1y
squirrelbrain Ah, of course @Cinfhen ! I was going to use that same book for #typographictitle. Hubby is a graphic designer and when I showed him the cover he said it was typographic! 🤔 1y
Cinfhen Ahhhh that‘s good to know! @squirrelbrain I thought any book that has just type without pictures on the cover would work or any book cover where the font is interesting 🤷🏼‍♀️ 1y
