The #toblonglist is out! (Thank you to @Ruthiella ‘s eagles eyes.) #tob

I‘ve read 24 titles and own (or are already on hold for) an additional 5. Beyond that, these are the other 11 I‘m most interested in with the ones I‘m more serious about buying on the bottom row.

Still not as organized as @squirrelbrain though!

Unsure who‘s on top of the tag list this year, but I would like to be included!

squirrelbrain Typically, most of those are the ones that I can‘t get hold of, or are ridiculously expensive! Although I don‘t fancy Babel, after a few reviews including one from @julesg. I have a physical copy of Grown Ups and it‘s *really* slim. I can send it to you when I‘ve read it if you like? 1w
Megabooks @squirrelbrain I‘ve got to go read her review because I don‘t remember it. It would be lovely if you could send the book. Thank you! 😘😘 1w
julesG It's here. https://litsy.com/p/a084TlhkdllE but we also talked about it via email, I think @squirrelbrain. 1w
See All 25 Comments
Megabooks @julesG @squirrelbrain huh. I didn‘t think it would be that violent, but I guess colonialism very much is. Thanks for sharing! 💜 1w
julesG It's not exactly very violent on page. But what we'd call terrorism is implied, especially at the end of the book. 1w
Megabooks @squirrelbrain also I *still* have a birthday gift for Henry that I haven‘t sent! But the good news is I‘ve since acquired a gift for you too, so 🤞🏻 I can get it in the mail before thanksgiving (next Thursday). 💜💜 I need some of your organizational skills!! 1w
squirrelbrain You‘re right @julesG - we did talk about it more on email, but it definitely doesn‘t sound like my kind of book, and I believe it‘s a bit of a chunkster too! You may love it, though @Megabooks 1w
squirrelbrain @Megabooks oh thank you very much! 😁 I‘ll send the book in the New Year, as it will work for one of the #52books prompts so I‘ll read it early Jan. I can‘t believe it‘s only 6 weeks until ‘next year‘ though! 1w
Megabooks @squirrelbrain @julesG thank you both! I‘ll take your thoughts into consideration, especially since you know I‘m generally chunkster-averse. 😉 Next year is 💯💯💯 fine. I‘m just thankful you‘re willing to send it! I‘m so close to pushing the buy button on Search! My parents were on SO MANY minister search committees at our liberal, social justice church that it quite intrigues me. 1w
BarbaraBB So inspirating Meg! I have read 11, own another 4 and have ordered 7 more that were affordable. Like @squirrelbrain I love some of your choices but they are are still very expensive here. 1w
Ruthiella Still, pretty darn organized! 😃 Search is the one on your list I‘m most interested in. I hope it makes the shortlist, which will force me to read it. 1w
squirrelbrain Yes, Search is (d7 here in the UK at the moment! ??? @megabooks @BarbaraBB @Ruthiella 1w
BarbaraBB Meg do you have favorites among those 24 books you already read? 1w
Megabooks @BarbaraBB @Ruthiella @squirrelbrain the ones I‘ve added to my Amazon cart to watch Scattered = $17, Search = $22, Cyclorama = $21, but I‘m not jumping on any of those today. I may jump in Reward System, which is $14.50 for hardcover rn, so a good deal, but I just treated myself to two regular price books and a Book Outlet order, so I‘m not rushing. This was in my BO order though. 1w
Cinfhen There are several on this list Im interested in reading too and thankfully a few are available on #Scribd🙌🏻 Im not planning on buying any until the shortlist is announced. 1w
Cinfhen But the one that intrigues me most and is not on scribe (yet) is (edited) 1w
sarahbarnes Nice!! I‘ve read 12 and there are some on the list I‘m pretty excited to read, too. 😃 1w
Megabooks @BarbaraBB Sea of Tranquility, Lapvona, and Tomorrow x3 were all 5⭐️ for me but I also loved Checkout 19 and Mouth to Mouth (as far as ones I don‘t think you‘ve read). 1w
Megabooks @Cinfhen some years I pay more attention to the longlist than others. The 4 I mentioned prices on ⬆️ I may get regardless. Or maybe not. Trying not to be too impulsive! 🤣🤣 1w
Megabooks @sarahbarnes yeah, it‘s a good list this year! 1w
squirrelbrain Yes, I‘m most intrigued by that one too @cinfhen but it‘s only on Amazon for (d2, and not even on Audible. ?‍♀️ 1w
Megabooks @squirrelbrain I just got Search on audible! Cassandra Campbell sounds like a great narrator match for the subject and I TOTALLY FORGOT I still had a credit this month! I may look at Cyclorama with one of my credits that comes on the 21st. @Cinfhen @Ruthiella @BarbaraBB 1w
BarbaraBB Thanks!! I just made a post about it where we can share suggestions. I just ordered Checkout 19 and Mouth to Mouth! I haven‘t read Lapvona either. 1w
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I am intrigued by Cyclorama too. 1w
charl08 Ooh very tempting. I do love a list! 1w

What a ride this was! I think I missed at least half of the clues (so much is happening in the same day, happening over and over again) but I don‘t mind. I thoroughly enjoyed traveling with Aiden from one host to another in his race against the clock; he has to find out who murdered Evelyn Hardcastle to be freed from this repeating day. What an original and fun locked room mystery!

RaeLovesToRead I loved this and I loved his second book too 😊 2w
BarbaraBB @RaeLovesToRead I will definitely check out what he wrote next! I am glad you encouraged me to read it when I mentioned I planned to! 2w
Cortg I‘ve been wanting to read this one! 2w

BarbaraBB @Cortg I bought it soon after its publication but it took me years to finally pick it up! 2w
Tamra I‘ve got to get to this one! 2w
IndoorDame I feel like I missed so many things the first time too. I think it‘s been long enough that I‘m ready for a reread to see how much more I clue into 2w
BarbaraBB @IndoorDame I‘d take notes if I‘d reread it 😁 2w
TheKidUpstairs I agree with @RaeLovesToRead - his second book was great too. Different, but just as engrossing and fun. A true 'yarn'! 2w
Cinfhen Excellent review!! Totally agree with everything you said!!! 2w
BarbaraBB @TheKidUpstairs I already checked it out. It does sound very good indeed!! 2w
squirrelbrain Great review! I really need to get to this one…. 2w
batsy Sounds so fun! Same, @squirrelbrain I too bought it soon after it was released and it's been chilling on my shelf for some time 😆 2w
Centique Loved this review - I too found it a thrilling ride and I‘m sure I missed so much! It will be fun to reread. 2w
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain @batsy It‘s very entertaining. Bit of an Agatha Christie vibe! 2w
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen @Centique Thank you 😊 2w
squirrelbrain Isn‘t it always the way?! @batsy 2w

I switched to print and I immediately enjoyed the book better. The setting is great (18th century NYC, a place with 7,000 inhabitants!) where a stranger from London suddenly sets foot ashore. There are lots of twists and a surprising ending. A light pick.

sarahbarnes Great review! I‘ve been curious about this one since reading Light Perpetual. 3w
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes If you enjoy historical fiction it‘s a good one for you! (edited) 3w

LeahBergen @jlhammar Me, too. 😆 3w
BarbaraBB @jlhammar @LeahBergen It had been on mine too 🤣. It didn‘t disappoint! 3w
DivineDiana I knew I had read this for my IRL book club years ago. Couldn‘t remember too much. Checked back to my Litsy posts and discovered it was 5 years. Thank you, Litsy for helping my brain! 🤣 2w

My Autumn choices for #Booked2023, just the first ideas. The Jim Jones I copied from @jenniferw88 , a good one for #doubledipping with #ReadingTheAmericas2023!

TrishB I‘m screen shooting all of them! 3w
BarbaraBB @TrishB I hope you‘ll share your ideas too, it‘s going to be a difficult one I think! 3w
jenniferw88 A couple of my others #doubledip with #readingtheamericas2023 - will tag you in a comment on my post when I get home with which country. 3w
See All 20 Comments
BarbaraBB @jenniferw88 Thanks, that would be so helpful! 3w
TrishB I will when I have a minutes planning time 😁 3w
Cinfhen Do u think Bolivia could be a sunshine country??? Because I have a book that might work as a #DoubleDip 3w
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I wouldn‘t automatically think of it as a sunshine country because there are snowy mountains too but the jungle is definitely hot and steamy so I think that makes it work! 3w
Cinfhen I know @BarbaraBB I‘m kind of a stickler for rules, when it comes to my own challenge…and I definitely have other choices….. it would probably work for “twisted” or “stretch” so maybe I can #DoubleDip there!! Plus @jenniferw88 got me sold on the idea of #52Books52Weeks challenge so….I need to see what those prompts will be too 3w
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen oops, sorry! 😂 Barbara does it too so you'll be in good company. I'll start tagging you in my reviews for that challenge too - they sometimes release mini-challenges for the month but I just stick to the main one! 3w
Cinfhen Ok!! Good to know / I can‘t be pressured by mini challenges @jenniferw88 😅 3w
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen I'm the same about mini-challenges! 3w
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I was lured 😉 into the #52books challenge by @jenniferw88 too and it‘s so fun! You‘ll love it too. The 2023 challenge hasn‘t been released yet, if I‘m right Jenny? 3w
BarbaraBB @jenniferw88 @Cinfhen I also do #ATY2023, its‘s a group op GR and it is a great challenge too. 52 prompts and mostly good ones. I can highly recommend it. 3w
jenniferw88 @BarbaraBB yes, you're right, but it will be some time in November. Will tag you both when it does! @Cinfhen 3w
BarbaraBB @jenniferw88 Thanks! Can‘t wait! 3w
jenniferw88 Ooh, thanks! Just joined. 3w
Cinfhen It‘s a GREAT LIST but I‘m gonna pass / too many books I‘d need to buy 3w
BarbaraBB @jenniferw88 @Cinfhen My resolution is to join them but not feel obliged to finish all of them. I hope to see them as guidance instead of obligation 😂 3w
Cinfhen That sounds like a great way to embrace all challenges 🥰😄 3w

Fuyuko hardly speaks or connects with other people. She starts drinking after years of abstinence, yet living her life in a disciplined way, each day repeating the one before. I didn‘t understand her at all, kept asking myself why she did (or mostly didn‘t do) the things she did. Yet she made a fascinating character and I loved the Japanese context and Kawakami‘s writing style.

A great book! Such real to life and loving characters, their story, their lives and their games. They pulled me back into the 90s, into playing adventure games on enormous computers with hardly any capacity. I laughed and cried with Sam, Sadie and Marx and they left me behind with a smile on my face.

Meh. You know those people who post vague status updates on Facebook, hoping you'll either ask them about it, and you just end up filling in the blanks yourself, concocting a ridiculous narrative about their VagueBooking? That is what this felt like.

At the end of a drunken dinner party with her friend Abby and their husbands, Sienna suggests they swap husbands for the night. No sex, just a change of pace. Oddly, the other three go along ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick with it. Days later, one of the men disappear. Sienna heard one sentence and assumed she knew what Abby was talking about. Abby's POV told us vaguely about something pertinent to the arc, but you're just left wondering WTF she's talking about. The overall turn of events was interesting in theory, but this felt terribly repetitive with all the internal dialogue GUESSING what was happening. If only people opened up to the police or asked ⬇️ 4mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick questions...UGH. This just felt tedious and by about 40% through I wanted the big twist to be that they all disappeared. I wasn't that lucky.

What's not to like? This is essentially the bathroom equivalent of a coffee table book - a Toilet Tanker, if you will. I love baseball. I love snarky humor. I appreciate odd creativity. Basically, these brothers took old baseball cards, vandalized them, made a Tumblr, and got a book deal. my sense of humor is on par with a 12 year old boy so a few of these made me cackle with glee. I loved it! ❤ One of the least offensive cards shown above.

TheAromaofBooks I love it when you find a whacky book that just works!! 4mo

A club of university students spends a week on an island off the coast of Japan where a gruesome crime has recently occurred. Soon the first among them is murdered.
The characters in the book are flat, there is no poetic line to be found, but this cult book is an example of the “shin honkaku” genre — a Japan-specific reboot of the classic whodunit. Recommended!
