An Enchantment of Ravens
An Enchantment of Ravens | Margaret Rogerson
A skilled painter must stand up to the ancient power of the faerie courtseven as she falls in love with a faerie princein this gorgeous debut novel. Isobel is a prodigy portrait artist with a dangerous set of clients: the sinister fair folk, immortal creatures who cannot bake bread, weave cloth, or put a pen to paper without crumbling to dust. They crave human Craft with a terrible thirst, and Isobels paintings are highly prized. But when she receives her first royal patronRook, the autumn princeshe makes a terrible mistake. She paints mortal sorrow in his eyesa weakness that could cost him his life. Furious and devastated, Rook spirits her away to the autumnlands to stand trial for her crime. Waylaid by the Wild Hunts ghostly hounds, the tainted influence of the Alder King, and hideous monsters risen from barrow mounds, Isobel and Rook depend on one another for survival. Their alliance blossoms into trust, then loveand that love violates the fair folks ruthless laws. Now both of their lives are forfeit, unless Isobel can use her skill as an artist to fight the fairy courts. Because secretly, her Craft represents a threat the fair folk have never faced in all the millennia of their unchanging lives: for the first time, her portraits have the power to make them feel.

Read this one this evening for my book club and was pleasantly surprised! Not normally a fantasy reader but this one hooked me from the beginning! Very easy fantasy read! Limited world building and plot heavy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #anenchantmentofravens

I adored this book. There was a mix of autumn coziness, love story, and adventure. The author didn't shy away from the complex untrustworthy, and sometimes grotesque, nature of the fae. Yet the book itself somehow felt comforting, like a cup of chai on a chilly day. Definitely looking forward to reading more by this author.

"Dim as it was, the forest glowed. The golden leaves flashing by blazed like sparks caught in the updraft of a fire. A scarlet carpet unrolled before us, rich and flawless as velvet. Rising from the forest floor, the black, tangled roots breathed a bluish mist that reduced the farthest trees' trunks to ghostly silhouettes, yet left their foliage's luminous hues untouched."

I was underwhelmed by this story, the concert was magnificent but I feel like it fell very short in the execution.

The Fae crave human crafts in exchange for perilous enchantments. Isobel succeeds in laying low until her unique paintings capture the eye of the Fae court.
I enjoyed this read even though I'm not the target audience. It had many of the characteristics of YA fantasy that made me roll my eyes as a teen, but it also had a lot of interest & charm that kept me reading even so. I really wished there was more about Isobel's family & her goat siblings.

When artist Isobel paints human sorrow into the portrait of the faerie prince of the autumn court, she starts a cascade of events that she could not have predicted.

This was a sweet fantasy. The romance was cute, but I wasn‘t nearly as invested in our main characters as I was trying in to figure out the politics of the courts. I wanted so much more of the world, and I was left with so many questions about everything except our leads. 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑

I finished this over lunch today. Such a good story! Isobel is a young, mortal portrait artist whose patronage includes many of the fair folk, magical beings who on occasion visit her hometown, Whimsy. A new patron, the Autumn Prince, brings with him a dangerous adventure and maybe even romance.

🎧 This was very much a YA book.

Predominate Trope - instalove.

I didn‘t realize this was a teen romance when I accepted the recommendation 😆 yes I didn‘t read the summary. This was well-written.

I liked that the heroine is an artist who paints fae portraits.

The narration was great. The banter was sarcastic & funny.

If I were a teenager I probably would love this book.

I really liked this book. It‘s a traditional romance with an flare of fae, a bit of cunning, and a lot of rule breaking. Was in the mood for this kind of book, so it hit the spot. Not recommended for those who are not fans of a bit of instalove. Well written with flowery description.

Using as free space on #bookspinbingo. Realized I need to add my bookclub reads next month (or maybe just keep using free spaces for that?)

A painter and a fairy prince try to fool the fae--and themselves--into believing they aren't in love and breaking the most sacrosanct of laws: that a human and fairy can never fall in love. Not as incredible as a Sorcery of Thorns, Rogerson's other book, which I adored, but still a really enjoyable fantasy romance exploring the world of fairies.

4 stars / ⭐⭐⭐⭐

An Enchantment of Ravens was beautifully written, there's no denying that. The story was charming, but it felt more suited for a novella, rather than a novel. I hardly felt anything after I finished reading the book, and that bothers me.

If anyone is interested reading Margaret Rogerson's works, I'd recommend starting with this, her first book, before proceeding to read her second. You'll see her growth as a storyteller better that way.

It's been a while since I've enjoyed a fae story as much as this one.I really appreciated the easy companionship btwn Isobel & Rook.I did find the parallels btwn Isobel & Feyre to be interesting; both painters, the family breadwinner, have 2 sisters, & were swept away to a fae kingdom due to a crime they unknowingly committed.Thankfully the parallels stopped there & the story developed into something special.I think I prefer Ravens to ACOTAR.

I‘m pretty torn about this book. I‘ve seen it compared a lot to ACOTAR, which I don‘t really agree with- they‘re in different leagues. A lot of beautiful imagery but the romance fell flat and there was no tension in the story. It felt very much like a debut novel. I also would not recommend the audiobook- the lady reading it gave Rook a goofy “man voice” that was impossible to take seriously.

This right here is a good book. I adore the way the Fae are written with every fiber of my body. The creepy and grotesque way certain scenes are written, yet so beautifully layered and just enough to get the imagination going. The main character wasn‘t my favorite and I think some things were a bit rushed, especially the ending, but I still loved it. I will definitely be watching this author and waiting for their next release.

After loving Rogerson‘s second novel, I was excited to start listening to her debut! And it definitely has a lot of great characters and some terrific imagery like her second book... but, I just didn‘t like it quite as much! I think it‘s partly because I am just not a big fan of fairies... and partly because I never really felt that invested in the romance- but the audio is well-performed and it‘s certainly action-packed! #AudioColoring

Portrait painter Isobel is kidnapped by Rook, the Fae prince of the Autumn Court, for a relatively lame reason. They start a trek through the Fae world on their way to Isobel's trial at the Autumn Court.
Of course our level-headed heroine turns into a mushy lump within minutes, she's enthralled by Rook, who's equally enchanted by her.

Lots of trees and leaves on the trek. Reminds me a lot of A Court Of Thorns And Roses.

YA fantasy #romance

I really liked this! I really enjoyed sorcery of thorns so picked this up after listening to an interview with the author on the B&N YA podcast (love it). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Would you like to know the greatest secret of fairykind? We prefer to pretend otherwise, but truly, we have never been the immortal ones. We may live long enough to see the world change, but we‘re never the ones who changed it. When we finally reach the end, we are unloved and alone, and leave nothing behind, not even our name chiseled on a stone slab. And yet—mortals, through their works, their Craft, are remembered forever.”

This book was very refined and a specific audience can enjoy this with all their hearts. I wasn‘t apart of that targeted audience. There was a regal atmosphere and I truly appreciated the details and the lore. Just. That romance.
Was the hardest thing I ever had to swallow.
The potential turned into cliches at the end, another thing that killed it for me. But I do recommend!
