Kingdom of Copper | S A Chakraborty

S. A. Chakraborty continues the sweeping adventure begun in The City of Brass--"the best adult fantasy I've read since The Name of the Wind" (#1 New York Times bestselling author Sabaa Tahir)--conjuring a world where djinn summon flames with the snap of a finger and waters run deep with old magic; where blood can be dangerous as any spell, and a clever con artist from Cairo will alter the fate of a kingdom.Nahri's life changed forever the moment she accidentally summoned Dara, a formidable, mysterious djinn, during one of her schemes. Whisked from her home in Cairo, she was thrust into the dazzling royal court of Daevabad--and quickly discovered she would need all her grifter instincts to survive there. Now, with Daevabad entrenched in the dark aftermath of a devastating battle, Nahri must forge a new path for herself. But even as she embraces her heritage and the power it holds, she knows she's been trapped in a gilded cage, watched by a king who rules from the throne that once belonged to her family--and one misstep will doom her tribe..Meanwhile, Ali has been exiled for daring to defy his father. Hunted by assassins, adrift on the unforgiving copper sands of his ancestral land, he is forced to rely on the frightening abilities the marid--the unpredictable water spirits--have gifted him. But in doing so, he threatens to unearth a terrible secret his family has long kept buried. And as a new century approaches and the djinn gather within Daevabad's towering brass walls for celebrations, a threat brews unseen in the desolate north. It's a force that would bring a storm of fire straight to the city's gates . . . and one that seeks the aid of a warrior trapped between worlds, torn between a violent duty he can never escape and a peace he fears he will never deserve.

Getting in a little #ChristmasSpirit with a holiday themed bath bomb tonight

#bookandbath #bathbomb

Soubhiville Does it smell like Christmas trees? 2w
FantasyChick @Soubhiville Not really it's more of a spiced scent. Like if you walked into a Victorian Christmas party where the place is filled with mistletoe, lit candles and warm cider.....this is exactly how it would smell. 2w

The storytelling takes you through political courts & palaces of magic where warring tribes fight a powerful, tyrant King. Nahri is struggling to find her place & work for the good of the people of Daevabad. The story follows Nahri, Ali & Dara as war threatens a fragile peace. I am loving this series. This is becoming a fast favourite, only have to wait till the end of February for the last in the triology 'The Empire of Gold'

This fantasy series is a lot of fun with such complex, interesting characters. Admittedly, it took me a little longer to get sucked into this one than it did for The City of Brass, but once I was hooked, the story didn't let go. I'm looking forward to the final installment which is due out in a few months. #fantasy #magic #trilogy #strongfemalecharacters #bookmap

I haven‘t had much time to read Friday or Saturday, because I celebrated my birthday (a week early) with my family yesterday. I had a lovely day, and among other great gifts, I got these two lovely books 📚

Today, I‘m going to relax with Eleanor and Park, and enjoy not having any plans 🙌

People ask me why I don't drive and the answer is always simply because then I wouldn't be able to read on journeys. I know there are audio books but being interupted by the satnav would drive me nuts. I'm on the train right now going to see my parents for a few days & I get 2hrs of uninterrupted reading. Loving this series & had to dive straight into the second book which is not disappointing

#ReadingCommuter #books #BookNerd #ReadABook #Prisma

julesG I like audiobooks in the car for journeys where I don't need the SatNav, or I turn it to mute because it is in my peripheral vision. And the SatNav has nothing on my Bluetooth headphones shouting at me "battery low". 1mo
Mandoul I agree 100% @JaneyWaneyB my favourite journeys are the long ones by bus or train, which other people find frustrating but i see as book time! 1mo

I‘m enjoying the story, but remember what I didn‘t love about this narrator: she has a tendency to make most sentences imply surprise when it doesn‘t make sense. It‘s such a weird little tendency, very distracting.

1) I'm afraid of how it's going to end badly and thrn have to wait for the last part til next year!
2) We don't have a long weekend here. But the plan is for a short hike with the kids on Saturday and Sunday is just chilling
3) Stracciatella (does this even exist in America?)
4) Piano, guitar a bit of oud and now started with blues harp

The second book in the Daevabad Trilogy. I love this series. I would love to know when the 3rd book will be released because multiple storylines ended in cliffhangers. In this one all my favorite main characters are on different sides, with different plans, of varying degrees of danger to the population. Some characters may not be able to come back after their actions. Frustrating, sad, this book went in another direction than the first- loved it.

8little_paws Ughhhh I refuse to read this series until all 3 are out so I'm dying now 5mo

If you want a book where the good guys and bad guys are clearly defined, do not read this book. If you want to read a book full of messy relationships, loyalties, and ‘causes/revenge‘ where the real tragedy is the suffering and loss of the innocent, read this amazing book.

Daevabad Trilogy, book two.

Hard to talk about the plot without giving away spoilers from book one, but the story is told from three perspectives—Nahri, Dara, and Ali. Each are flawed in complex and believable ways, and locked into conflicts that are not entirely of their own doing.

If you enjoy fantasy with lots of realistic history and political intrigue (à la Tolkien) this series is for you.

Mehso-so

While I loved being back in this world & mythology, & there were strong moments of action, twists, & humor, I do think this suffered a bit from second book syndrome. It honestly almost got boring at times, there were a lot of parts w/characters just having conversations about stuff that‘s happened or will happen, & a LOT of politics. It took a long time to get to the real meat of the story. But still def looking forward to the final book! 3/5 ⭐️

This one was even better than the 1st book. I had a hard time ever putting it down. I love the characters, Nahri, Ali, Dara. There's continuous action, it makes you HAVE to keep reading and turning the pages to find out what will happen next. Tremendous character growth, for all characters involved. I would've liked Dara to have more chapters but if that's the only complaint I have then I'd say that's pretty good.

Another 5 ⭐ for Chakraborty

Well! This gets a big 5⭐️ from me! I love the world building in this, the twisty-turny politics, the back-biting & double crossing (that‘ll be the politics bit!), and you can really sink your teeth into the characters! Even the thoroughly unlikeable characters I loved reading about. You‘ve got to love a well-written despot! As you can see, lots of ‘love‘ for this book (I need a thesaurus, clearly!). Just ‘put out‘ I‘ll have to wait for the finale!
