I consumed this book. I was compelled to read on not because I liked Eleanor but because I knew from the beginning she deserved from more from life than existence. By the end I adored Eleanor and her bravery. It was a beautiful book that explore loneliness, isolation and friendship and how it is the small acts of kindness that save us all. #2/12 #yearofreading

I remember being disappointed that I couldn‘t see this on stage so picked up the script years ago. I read the first few pages and realising it was was going to be poignant and devastating but it down for another day.
It is a haunting fictionalised account of a real meeting between the lost and desperate Peter Llewelyn Davis (Peter Pan) and the lonely and desperate Alice Liddell Hargreaves (Alice inWonderland).

I had a hard time getting into this as I felt it was slow to start however after the initial hump it was thoroughly entertaining. A detailed and thoughtful presentation of how war effects people on different ways. It was said, uplifting and a delicious lily enjoyable read.

A tiny novella that that packs a heartbreaking punch. An honest story that depicts how easy it is to miss understand and miss opportunities when we are over whelmed. I loved the night circus. The intertwined stories, magic and depiction of slowly falling in love was wonderful. Well crafted and engrossing world.

A well loved and well worn copy of Rich's The Dream of a Common Language. It's a raw book filled with tragedy and emotion. It's for anyone who wants to reflect on #feminism, being a women and life.

I understand the divided opinion on this novel. It feels disappointing and not McEwan's normal standard. I felt the female voice lacked realism at times however I was utterly heartbroken by her trails and tribulations. I wanted to cling on to my own partner in desperation when I was sharing her fears and worries about her relationships. It's beautiful, and yes, feels unfinished but I felt it reflected life; nothing is ever completed neatly.

Apparently my partner doesn't understand that one of their duties is to stop me when I say "ooooo let's just pop in there." I don't think it's registered that it never just ends in me buying just one book.

Yes it's predictable and yes the teenagers don't sound realistic and you can never forget they are over constructed characters that are unrealistic and yes it's contrived..... But it's a heart wrenching and beautiful and is a carefully crafted novel. It is both devastating and hopeful. It basically makes you say 'and' a lot when talking about it because there is so much to say.

I read The Hunger Games Trilogy in 4 days on holiday and it has always irritated me it wasn't 3 days.
I loved the first novel but felt like the latter 2 were written to answer questions about the first book no one has asked. They paled in comparison and while the 1st novel had a fully actualised world the 2nd two failed to achieve a sense of realism. Still worth the read however.

Existentialism is usually something I love, however this felt hollow. The women fell flat and the men were something to be ridiculed. I understand that this is about exploring our insignificance in the world but these characters failed to develop the narrative in an engaging manner.

This was really enjoyable, where you both laugh at and envied the decadence. It's been a great distraction at the moment and another #unreliablenarrator that you both love and hate

I read because someone wrote a book about a little boy. I love English and teach it because someone created a magical world. I have some wonderful friends because we share a fandom.
20 years ago today someone wrote something amazing and that work was published.

I'm not sure if a recipe book counts but I'm reviewing it anyway! This is my favourite recipe book mostly for the anecdotes that remind me of my own eccentric family and its variety of easy and exciting recipes. This wonderful book houses some my most used show stopping recipes that always illicit compliments. There is a strong Mediterranean theme but also has some great Mexican and Chinese recipes. Another #pupilschoice she is a member of Feminism Club and apparently knows me well.
This was an engaging read demonstrating the various shades of feminism and discusses eloquently how problematic it can be to be a women and name yourself as feminist in these modern times. The last 10 were hard hitting and it was interesting to hear from such prominent women. #feminism

I thoroughly enjoyed this book with it's unreliable narrator and watching how the righteous fall. The 1920s setting was well crafted and was a wonderful escape. With all its twist and turns it was entertaining and left you wondering what was the truth at the end of the novel #unreliablenarrator

I loved American Gods; it did however take me a long time to read and I was confused more than once. This is probably down to its disjointed and episodic nature as much of the novel is a road trip, that said I adored this style of writing. I thoroughly enjoyed using my (usually useless) knowledge of mythology, exploring what it is to believe and the notion of worship. With eccentric characters all harbouring secrets and a past doesn't stay dead.

My broken foot has meant that my reading had increased no end. #sickday
This was an eye opening book, it was brave and honest, imparting knowledge about the realities of being black women in a way only Walker can. This was an eloquent discussion about race, class and gender that I fully adored. #feminism

I had a bizarre conversation with my parents "what's the name of the book about a whole town that knows someone is going to get murdered and no one does anything to stop it?"
Needless to say they were no help despite the fact they had lent me the book in Croatia. Queue google. It's a wonderful piece of magical realism. This cathartic investigation, leaves the main character still a mystery and is reverting from beginning to end!! #holidayreads

This was lent to me by a year 11 pupil last year. She said it was something she thought I would enjoy as had the supernatural weaved into the real world. This was the type of book that was so well written you were uneasy, terrified for the characters and left dismayed. The writing was sinister, subtle and engaging throughout. #pupilschoice #teachersoflitsy

This signed copy of Jodi Picoult's The Storyteller was birthday present and a beautiful read. A heart wrenching novel that makes you wonder about the nature of forgiveness and human beings. Wonderfully written book that carries you way to smell freshly made bread and meet carefully crafted characters.

I've been stuck on the sofa with my damaged ankle and this was a relatively amusing distraction. It's a rather heavy handed parody but does do some justice to the farce of the Brexit campaign
