The Storyteller | Jodi Picoult
Some stories live forever . . . Sage Singer is a baker. She works through the night, preparing the days breads and pastries, trying to escape a reality of loneliness, bad memories, and the shadow of her mothers death. When Josef Weber, an elderly man in Sages grief support group, begins stopping by the bakery, they strike up an unlikely friendship. Despite their differences, they see in each other the hidden scars that others cant, and they become companions. Everything changes on the day that Josef confesses a long-buried and shameful secretone that nobody else in town would ever suspectand asks Sage for an extraordinary favor. If she says yes, she faces not only moral repercussions, but potentially legal ones as well. With her own identity suddenly challenged, and the integrity of the closest friend shes ever had clouded, Sage begins to question the assumptions and expectations shes made about her life and her family. When does a moral choice become a moral imperative? And where does one draw the line between punishment and justice, forgiveness and mercy? In this searingly honest novel, Jodi Picoult gracefully explores the lengths we will go in order to protect our families and to keep the past from dictating the future.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was my first Jodi Piccoult and I loved her writing. It was a tough subject matter and many of the chapters were hard to read but I couldn‘t put it down.

stine_tingling I've read a lot of hers and her writing style and storytelling is just so engrossing that it makes her, almost always, difficult subject manner so worth the read! 6mo

Whoa what a riveting book!!
I picked it up at a used bookstore a few days ago & have hardly come up for air! Have been reading any chance I got.

It‘s very hard to read in parts but the storyline and moral dilemma that‘s presented are so compelling.
And I love the quirky side character Mary, the ex-nun with the Harley 👩🏻‍🎤

I‘m having a hard time finding words for this one. To start, I have a soft spot for Jodi Picoult‘s writing. And this one did not disappoint. It‘s a haunting tale, but one that needed to be told. And that ending! 😱

@Louise Seems You were perfectly right. After listening to about an hour I will stop this.

I‘m not yet rating it as a „bail“ because I might come back to it in a few days/weeks – but:
• So far I‘m not hooked by the story.

• I don‘t like Saige‘s voice. I think she doesn‘t fit her. And Saige is so immature.

• There seem to be time leaps. They don‘t work for me as rhetorical device because they don‘t scatter enough bread crumbs for the main plot.

Louise Sometimes books with confusing plot lines are better read in print. I tried the audiobook of Lincoln in the Bardo and realized very quickly that the reader needs the visual cues in order to have any hope of following it. And yes, the narrator‘s voice is so very important! Good luck! 🤓 14mo

„Bis ans Ende der Geschichte“ (10 Stunden) oder „Das Licht der letzten Tage“ (11 Stunden)❓

This was very good. It alternated viewpoints between not only Sage and Josef, but also Sage‘s grandmother, who had been in a concentration camp, and Leo, a detective who hunts down war criminals. Should I admit that I didn‘t like some of what Sage was doing to Josef, who now trusted her with a pretty big secret? Surprisingly, I figured out the twist about half-way through.

Wowza! Have you ever thought you‘d like to write a book and then read a book and realize you could never produce an amazing work like that book? This was that kind of book for me. There were so many different stories woven into the larger story. I haven‘t read a book quite like this one before. It‘s a little mix of popular fiction, heart breaking historical fiction, and a fairytale all mixed into one. Twists and turns that will keep you reading.

There's this cool Goodreads analytic website that a Goodreads friend created. It tells you what countries the books you've read are from, how many male vs female authors, & when the books were published. It's pretty cool! Http://recommendmebooks.com
Unsurprisingly, my most read author is Picoult, I've read many more books from female authors (143 compared to 47), most have publication dates from 2000-now, and I've read books from 16 countries!

ItsAngel @Kaylamburson boo! I tried to do this and keep getting a server error. I‘ll keep trying though, it sounds really cool. I‘d love to know my stats. 😊 Thanks for sharing! 2y

You're home from work, because you are sick. You're cool with that, because you are home alone and you plan to spend the entire day in bed with a cup of tea on the nightstand and a pile of books next to you. But here's the thing, it is an EPIC FAIL because you can't keep your eyes open. All your body wants to do is sleep. You read the same sentence over and over again, and you never turn a single page. Good gracious!

The Story Teller was written beautifully, descriptive enough that I could smell/taste the breads baking in Sage‘s kitchen. It‘s never easy to read what so many endured while imprisoned in the Nazi concentration camps and again I was saddened, horrified and sickened. Minka's story was painfully real. Like all JP books, there is a twist and while I was not a fan of the ending, was grateful for another thought provoking read

I've read a lot of books about the holocaust and every book leaves me in tears, this one however had me sobbing at the half way point. Jodi Picoult has a way of making you feel empathy for every single character, she draws you in completely and doesn't let you go until the last word. Very well researched, a good book club read as there is so much to discuss. A very good book on a very sad subject.

Once again Jodi knows how to hit you in the feels. Eventhough this was a work of fiction, its hard to stomach the fact people were really treated this way. Its such a disgusting thing to have happened in History but I feel as though she did it justice. It was an excellent read and one that took me a littlw while to get through because it was depressing. I highly recommend it.
