Wow. That book was… something. I have really mixed feelings about this one. On one hand it was pretty engaging, even funny at times, and certainly weird (which can be a good thing!). But it missed the mark with some of the jokes, and just felt like it was about to spring some really asshole-y quip. But overall it was okay, especially for something I randomly picked up in a Little Free Library. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
And yes, that *is* a massive cup of tea.

R&R? More like MM&M- Murder Mystery and Monster!

I‘ve been reading out of my comfort zone lately, and this book just seemed pretty cool as a quick read. It‘s good, except for some weird bits I didn‘t really like about incest. Ugh.

Still, overall a good read. There‘s a lot of characters, but they‘re not too hard to keep track of. Three and a half stars (Or moons, I guess). 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

I‘m definitely not a horror person. Even “slightly scary” gives me nightmares.

But I‘ve been venturing out of my bookish comfort zone lately, so I thought I might as well give this a try.

As previously stated, I‘m not a horror person, so I haven‘t read Lovecraft. I‘m good at inferring things, though, so I think even without prior knowledge this book is enjoyable. Giving it a so-so because… still not a horror person lol

I‘m a pretty big whovian, and I really enjoyed this. It‘s nice and short, and I thought the voices were pretty good. (Maybe if I pretend it‘s autumn, all the snow‘ll go away?)

This isn‘t really my kind of book, but I thought i‘d give it a try. Was I pleasantly amazed? Sort of.

This book follows the story of Benny Imura, a fifteen year old boy who‘s forced to get a job so the government doesn‘t cut his rations. With few options, he turns to his brother, asking for an apprenticeship as a bounty hunter. But there‘s a lot more to killing zombies than he expected.
It was okay, just not really my type of book.

This book alternates between Eragon and his cousin Roran‘s POVs, which i really enjoy. It‘s about as good as the first, and i definitely liked the different POVs. Gerard Doyle does some pretty good voices for the #audiobook.

Even though i‘ve read this series a few times, i haven‘t actually read this book until now! It wasn‘t available at the library so i just went “eh” and picked up Brisingr. Everything makes a lot more sense now 😅.

I found the audio of this on the Libby homepage, and decided to listen.

It tells the story of a fox (who i thought was a human? The audio doesn‘t make it very apparent) with a beautiful garden he‘s raised with his pet dog. It‘s pretty short, but i enjoyed it.

So i‘ve been looking for some christmas reads, but not really finding anything i want to read. I mostly read YA sci-fi/fantasy, and i like dystopias, but these types of books aren‘t very… christmassy 😅

Anyway, do you guys have any recs?

kwmg40 I like this collection of short stories by Connie Willis. It's not specifically YA or dystopian, but it is sci-fi/fantasy. 2y

This is an amazing, heartwarming, inspiring tale of a cat named Ratchet, or rather a tale of all the living things of Roxville. A tale of cats and birds and skunks and foxes and racoons... and even humans. A tale of friendship and hatred, of trust and deceit, a tale of the unspoken language cats have, and most importantly a tale of love.
This is a tale of the cats of Roxville Station.

(Wow, I felt poetic today... anyways ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for sure 😄)

This book was so touching and compelling I could NOT put it down!

Aven Green is just like any other thirteen-year-old girl. She has two best friends, and she loves playing soccer. The only difference between her and any other girl? She doesn‘t have arms.

I loved the accurate representation of mental health, and the mystery element just made it even funner! I completely recommend it.

I know I‘m only about half way in but... I just don‘t really like it. I know, I know, it‘ll probably get better as time goes on, but Bobby The MC here is so 𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨. Argh.

The worldbuilding is actually pretty cool, although I feel like the author‘s kind of trying too hard to write it through a teen‘s eyes...

I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY!!! Major spoils in comments, minor ones here

This book is so so so good. Seraphina‘s mental and emotional journey, the mild love story somehow perfectly intertwined with the fantasy elements... if I don‘t see at least one stack add on this post, y‘all missing out.

The conflict with Jannoula is so well-written and heartbreaking. And don‘t even get me STARTED on the LGBTQ+ representation.

Fantasy_bookworm The story was a bit slow sometimes but the overall plot was just so captivating. And Abdo!!! Oh my god, I loved Abdo.
The twists never stopped coming. I love the idea of the mind-fire connections and I don‘t even have words to describe how good the end was. I never saw it coming that Glisselda loved Phina but now I think about it it makes so much sense. I really felt like I was right there in the story, and isn‘t that the best thing about books?

Major Spoils for just after the beginning of chapter five

This is a bit sudden (I.e. I just paused the audiobook and logged on as fast as I could) but Cinder is so BADASS in this book and she. Just. Used. Her. Glamour!!
Thorn is a pretty interesting character and I kind of like him. I definitely see where the author is going with her obvious annoyance by him- they‘ll definitely become lovers or at least close friends by the end of this book.

Fantasy_bookworm Update from listening to a bit more: suspicions confirmed, she thinks he‘s handsome and he probably thinks she‘s pretty even without glamour, kiss is GUARANTEED by now (edited) 3y

Here‘s something annoying that keeps happening to me: my holds come in as soon as I borrow something!
I put a hold on Scarlet as soon as I finished Cinder, which was when I started The Rithmatist. I just finished that today and borrowed A Court Of Thorns And Roses, which I‘m about 13 minutes into. I opened up Libby a few minutes ago to start reading, and now my hold is ready. Maybe it‘s because people read at the same speed as me? Ugh!

This the kind of book I put down, coming back to after finishing the other five books I happened to be reading simultaneously.
But hooray! Unlike my un-updated profile is telling you, the only things I‘m actually currently reading are this and a non-fiction I‘ll probably post about once I get around to it. After this, I‘ll continue the other books I set aside during November‘s frenzy (Genesis, Lark Rising, etc)

Fantasy_bookworm Just realized I was running out of characters and hadn‘t even talked about the book! I only read a few pages before setting this aside, so right now i‘m done with chapter one and reading chapter two. I love the world building and the interesting portrayal of dragons. Our protagonist is pretty cool, too. I wonder if the new skin we meet has something to do with the main plot... is there even going to be ONE plot? So many questions! 3y

With a combination of fantasy and fairy tale, this story tells the adventure Red goes on to save her grandmother, and all the things she learns and friends she makes along the way.

Just started Part Two, this is an awesome book. Very deep fantasy words, I love it!!
Vaguely light read, for my fantasy-loving Littens who want a book that can be easily read in bed or transported.
I like the intricate background of both characters, and the footnotes drop world-building through-out (Yay! No dull chapter that just explains everything in one dump!)
I recommend completely.
