pick⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This book was so interesting! It was a concept I‘d not read before & I thought the most impressive part was that it was a single, standalone book & didn‘t need to be more than that. Written in 3 sections that could have been their own books, I was impressed with Carey‘s ability to edit & flesh out an incredibly full world in just under 600 pages. I would definitely be interested in reading more from her in the future & recommend this one!
My last book for #lmpbc round 7 has arrived! I just want to thank you ladies for making my first time so much fun!

I love Carey‘s world-building (this is my first experience with her writing!) and the characters are memorable. It‘s an epic story and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish! I already have the next round‘s book too!! So sorry for the hold up!!! 😬😬😬😬
It was extremely difficult choosing my #top10ofthedecade #fictionedition. I absolutely loved all ten of these books, and I believe they were all published in the last 10 years. I Highly recommend them all!

For the first 207 pages, I loved it—great writing, badass main character, interesting questions, & a good story. Then, the story moved to the palace & it all fell apart for me. Some writing quirks I didn‘t like, a story that was no longer compelling & which didn‘t live up to the promise of the first 200 pages, & while well-written, I was disappointed.

The boyfriend is off to a friends birthday, while I‘m home sick. Which really just gives me more time to relax and tackle more of these pages.
pickI really liked this! It reminded me of being a kid & just absorbing adventure stories - willing on my hero & being on hand to drop everything and join in if they needed my help! Capturing the journey, the quest, the pursuit for good over evil, the race to save everything - the characters attempt to discover themselves as well as complete their destined task. This is a great reading slump antidote - allowing you to sit back and just enjoy the ride.
pickJacqueline Carey will always and forever be one of my favorite authors. And this book is absolutely no exception. The character development, the incredible details to the created world, the drama and intrigue of the developing story, and the stunning appropriateness of the reveal about a main character... pickOMG this book, so amazingly good, I don‘t have words. A diverse cast of characters, an interesting and original premise, brilliant writing, breakneck action, heart-breaking losses and a message of hope. Literally, what more can you ask for? Even if you‘re not a huge fantasy person, you should add this book to your list. It‘s something special. And I finished just in the nick of time. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

pickI was a little worried when I saw some familiar tropes from the Kushiel series (throwing knives on arms, devoted warrior companion, God's acting through mortals), but the world-building is unique enough for this book to stand on its own.
Yes, this was a nice way to spend an hour! Unfortunately the lady beside me gabbed on her phone the whole time so I couldn‘t concentrate on my book. Oh well, now I‘m home and I‘m about to finish it!
pickKhai is a great character and I really enjoyed this one. Kushiel‘s Dart took me a bit to get into, but Starless flowed effortlessly from the beginning. Great world building. My only complaint was Zariya saying “my darling” so often. Otherwise, 587 pages of great storytelling 📚

Spending some time reading outside before it gets hot today. I‘m finally feeling clearheaded enough to get back to some serious reading- no heavy pain meds for 2 days now, and luckily very little discomfort. Slowly getting back to normal 😊.
My Barnes and Noble box came early, and it feels like Christmas in (almost) July. I am now on an official self-imposed book buying ban, due to my library TBR pile, but I could not resist getting this book and all of the other treasures. 📚🐛🖤😁🎉
