Looking forward to kicking off my #SeptemberReads with #VictorLavalle‘s #The Changeling. I heard it has dark fairy tale vibes. Yes! #diversereads
Looking forward to kicking off my #SeptemberReads with #VictorLavalle‘s #The Changeling. I heard it has dark fairy tale vibes. Yes! #diversereads
This book took an interesting look at risks two young women take in two different time periods. It‘s framed by concepts of slavery, freedom, & reparations. Overall, a nice read. The ending felt a bit disappointing, but in truth, it was more realistic than any other outcome.
Yo...Did I inadvertently purchase an autographed copy of #TheBookOfNightWomen?! I can‘t read this signature at all lol, but I‘m gonna tell myself it belongs to the author. I read this book soon after it debuted, but I‘m revisiting it again this month for #AfrikanahBookClub. Definitely a page-turner. #MarlonJames #blackwomenread #wellreadblackgirl #nowreading
Such a good story. It really made me think of the relationship between Black Americans and Africans in a new way. I saw a lot of myself in the protagonist, which may or may not be a good thing.
Y‘all. This book is hilarious. #MatJohnson‘s exploration of #EdgarAllanPoe is clever, & really made me think about things I overlooked in early American lit. #Pym #WinterBreakReading
This is a must-read for anyone interested in nature, whether you are a camper, hiker, bruja, rootworker, stargazer, birdwatcher, or tree hugger. It‘s an accessible, practical handbook for people who love outside. Awesome work by Mr. Gooley. #tristangooley #nature
This was my #airplanereading for this past weekend. The concept for this book is so cool! Perfect for #Halloweenreads. #graememacraeburnet #hisbloodyproject #historicalfiction #octoberreads
#HalloweenVibes for the weekend. I have a busy few days ahead of me, but I'm going to try to relax with #VictorLaValle as much as I can. #horror #mystery #diversebooks
#IssaRae's book was ok. She has some interesting but familiar insights into being half Senegalese & half Black American, growing up in the 90s, pop culture, family relationships, & media. Her humor shines in some portions. Overall, I enjoyed what she had to say more than how she said it. Borderline thumbs up/so-so. #blackwomenwriters #diversebooks
Finally got around to Volume 3 of #MoonGirlandDevilDinosaur. #LunellaLafayette is such an amazing character for all kids to dig into. #diversecomics #marvel #blackgirlmagic
About 1/3 way through. #Lazaretto is heartbreaking & enjoyable so far. I love #historicalfiction with a dash of #mystery tossed in. #weekendreading
Picking this one back up. It has a strong start. I hope the pace is sustained all the way through. I'm tired of great books with tired endings lol.
With #HurricaneHarvey bringing chaos to my beloved #Texas, I wanted to read something that reminded me of the coolness & culture of my home state. We have some pretty awesome #ghoststories around these parts. 😉👻 #spookytexas
This little book calms me & stresses me at the same time. Living in a hurricane-prone area, I respect the need for #disasterpreparedness, but I haven't followed through on it. 😬 Furthermore, we need #gobags & a #tactical plan because the deplorables are getting angrier & bolder by the day. If we stay ready, we don't have to get ready. #beprepared #countrygirl #omgwhatislifewithoutelectricity??!! 🔧⚒🕯🏞⛺️🌲👩🏿🌾
A #blerd gift from the hubster. #BillNye & Levar Burton deserve all the accolades for devoting their lives to educating kids & teaching us about the joy of learning. #nowreading #blackgirlsread #science
This is an essential resource for anyone involved in #museum #education. I'm truly enjoying my summer professional development. I should start posting more of my books for work.
Some light weekend reading. #blackpanther #diversecomics #blackcomics
This wasn't a bad read, but I really had to plod through it. Took me close to 2 months to finish. Not sure I like Siam's narrative. Definitely enjoyed Wicked more. Best thing about #AfterAlice was the vocabulary, a nod to the writing in the original #AliceinWonderland.
#TimeTravel!! Reviews on this book are all over the place. Interested to see where I'll fall in the spectrum after I finish. #marchintoreading
Mabel is me: Such an #introvert. It's odd & comforting when authors describe you so well. How dare you analyze me like this, Eowyn Ivey?! You don't know me like that! #TheSnowChild #marchintoreading
Had an unexpected hiatus from pleasure-reading. I suppose I should start posting what I read for work, eh? Anyway, back at it with #TheSnowChild. Feels great to snuggle up with a novel on this rainy Saturday night. I missed you, Litsy! 😆🤓📚
Restarting this one. #LalitaTademy is one of my favorite authors. Taking a break from comics for a while to get back into novels. #historicalfiction #blackwomenauthors #weekendreading #readdiversebooks
This was...disappointing. I liked the artwork, but even that isn't enough to redeem this plotless mishmash of a comic. I get the sense that this was written to pander to potential female comic fans, not to really dig into Harley's back story. (A catty slumber party? Really?) I struggled to finish this volume, which completely defeats the purpose of leisure reading.
Although it was a disappointing movie, I loved Margot Robbie's interpretation of #HarleyQuinn. Digging into these #DCComics for a bit to brush up on her backstory. First thoughts: Joker's a jerk & I can't wait to see how she & #PoisonIvy link up. #comics #dcuniverse #supervillains #ladyvillains
I adore this series. The artwork is beautiful, the plot moves along at a great pace, & it addresses social justice issues in clever ways. #comics #saga #scifi #fantasy #briankvaughan
Loving this addition to the #Shadowshaper storyline. I wish more authors would embrace #novellas as a method for exploring different characters & themes in their primary works. #seasonsreadings2016 #danieljoseolder #readdiversebooks
"But right now all we share are kind words and a common enemy. That is not yet enough." Such wisdom. Vet your allies! #blackpanther #marvelcomics #comics
I wanted to like this book so much more. I enjoyed the relatively slow build-up of the first 2/3 of the story, but the ending felt rushed. There seemed to be more action in the last couple of chapters than the rest of the book combined.
But overall, it's an interesting story. I appreciate all the research Baszile did. It's clear she took the subject seriously. I recommend it, even if just to have a comparison for the (very different) TV show.
