A cat and a book Saturday night.
I haven't read a book in months. I'm going to get back in the pool with my #botm from December.
Saturday night reading for #24in48
I woke up deliciously late and now I'm on bed, with coffee reading. #24in48
I've been slowly reading this book since January! So here's where I'm starting #24in48 by trying to kill another chapter. Chapter 11 - Gender, Race, and Modernism after the Second World War.
I wanted it to be clear that I wasn't altering my course from contemporary christian music because I was gay ... I wanted to be transparent in that what I hoped to achieve as a career songwriter lay beyond that world. My aspirations were not to write songs about my faith; I wanted to write about everything..If Jesus were to ever inspire a lyric again, He'd have to hold his own without predictable clichés"
This book was gorgeously written and contained within it's pages a story of generations, love, change and stagnation. Absolutely beautiful.
Baseler. The reason our dining room chairs have dishtowels on them. #catsoflitsy
"Sardar is still as silent, Talla talkative. That is how they balance their world, between the laconic confidence of a man who has faith in life and the chattering mistrust of a woman who expects a new misfortune to appear every day"
"And Talla speaks for two because everything is necessary to make up a life, and nothing can replace anything else. And a misunderstood silence is more brutal than the most spiteful words, the void it creates more empty than any unspeaking mouth." #europaeditions
"He needed his horizon to be clear so he could see only the essence of life, as it was at the outset, before words existed; having people around, their chatter and bustle, interrupted the view" #europaeditions #iran #muslim
I need a break from the news. This should take my mind off the state of the world for a few hours.
If you're looking for a great vegetarian #cookbook this is one of my favorites.
Just finished A Gentleman in Moscow and now for some #readathon palate cleansing with #poetry.
#deweysreadathon
These are the books I currently have checked out from the library.
#deweysreadathon #readathon #library #poetry
I have a very modest reading goal for today's #readathon Finish The Books I Started in April. Anything more is just icing on the proverbial cake. #deweysreadathon
Part of my daughter's birthday present was delivered today.
Today's #poetry #libraryhaul on purple for Prince. 💜
I'm watching the DVDs based off the book tonight because I'm a sucker for Simon's voice and I ❤ art.
Spring Break means making a cup of coffee at 8 at night and reading as long as I want to.
Only two poems in and this book already has me completely.
From the Jacket. "Magdalene imagines the biblical figure of Mary Magdalene as a woman who embodies the spiritual and sensual, alive in a contemporary landscape.."
It's impossible to spend a day at the National Gallery of Art and NOT buy a book about art. #blackhistorymonth
I have a bunch of books I want to get to during Black History Month but I'm having a hard time focusing on things with the current state of dumpster fire our country is in so I'm reading my first Beverly Jenkins instead.
Book Club is tomorrow. I read this back in August so I've been listening to the audiobook the past couple days to refresh my memory. #listening #audiobook #audible
I'm home from #womensmarch, showered, and ibuprofened up. Now I need some extravagant #selfcare so I'm joining you amazing readers that have been carrying the torch of literacy all day #24in48.
"The black American sculptor Edmonia Lewis, the first North American artist of color to achieve international recognition for her work ... As early as 1863, she was forced to request that her work not be praised because 'I am a colored girl'."
My 💚 is so heavy about Friday so to prepare myself for the future and attending the Women's March on Saturday I'm going to read poetry for my weary soul. I put a stack of my favorites next to my reading spot.
This book is by my favorite hand-letterer Mary Kate McDevitt. #fortheloveoffonts
Just a few of my books of inspiration for lettering. #fortheloveoffonts
I don't remember the last time I read a romance novel but I keep hearing a lot about Sarah Maclean. So I picked this up from the library to read tonight while my family is gone in various directions.
My Book of the Month Club box arrived with a little surprise in it.
My #BOTM box is on it's way. Great way to start 2017. #bookofthemonth
I found the playlist Alexander Chee made for the book on Spotify. It has Solange! And to think I've been listening to opera since I started reading it. #fridayreads #booksandmusic
"Following any loss there comes a moment when you shift from mourning; if you continued to linger in grief, you couldn't function. So little at a time, you create a so-called new normal, although there's nothing normal about it. With a gaping hole in your life, you move on"
"In some ways, the heartache we feel for our loved ones is deeper, rawer, than any we could feel for ourselves. Witnessing my father in such despair still haunts me to this day"
