A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty
A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty: A Novel | Joshilyn Jackson
A GROWN-UP KIND OF PRETTY is a powerful saga of three generations of women, plagued by hardships and torn by a devastating secret, yet inextricably joined by the bonds of family. Fifteen-year-old Mosey Slocumb-spirited, sassy, and on the cusp of womanhood-is shaken when a small grave is unearthed in the backyard, and determined to figure out why it's there. Liza, her stroke-ravaged mother, is haunted by choices she made as a teenager. But it is Jenny, Mosey's strong and big-hearted grandmother, whose maternal love braids together the strands of the women's shared past--and who will stop at nothing to defend their future.

Three generations of women, only 15 years apart each, live together in Mississippi. Mosey, freshly fifteen is desperate to break the “family tradition” of teen pregnancy. Liza, her mother, struggles to find a way to communicate after a debilitating stroke. Jenny, Liza‘s mother, tries to hold everything together when an unearthed box changes everything from them. While Jenny & Liza work on communicating, Mosey tackles the truth from another angle!

Book 122

I listened to A Grown-up Kind of Pretty--a mystery unfolds when baby bones are found in the yard of a Southern mother, daughter, and granddaughter. Written in 2012, I was shocked and bothered by the author's use of the r word, multiple times. ⭐⭐

Wonderful story telling of belonging. An adventure I had to see through. A grandmother, mother and daughter plagued by hardships and torn by secrets. Between the mystery, the affairs and the messiness of life.. I could not put this book down.🌻

Saturday morning breakfast ( that is a doughnut 🤯) by the big ass fern I was gifted from the Buy Nothing group I belong to. It feels like I‘m reading in a jungle. I like this book but I have a few that I really want to get to so I‘m dragging my feet with it. Absolutely not logical behaviour

I love this book! This was only my second Joshilyn Jackson that I‘ve read, but she‘s quickly becoming a favorite of mine. This had a bit of mystery, but it was mostly a story about family and how far one would go for their children. There were some heavy issues, but they were peppered with a sense of humor so that the overall feeling was just one of enjoyment. I definitely need to read more of her books! Four and a half stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Day 5: #greenbooks
I‘m in bed and totally forgot to do this earlier, hence the edit 😂 These are books I‘ve read in the past 1-2 years, and I‘ve gotta say - there really aren‘t that many green book covers. Lots of yellow covers WITH green, and lots of blue-green covers, but very few strictly green! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

It‘s been a while since I read a Joshilyn Jackson, but this one didn‘t disappoint. Hard to beat her for Southern fiction. Always a well-crafted and multi-layered story with some crazy thrown in. 🤪

This author reminds me a bit of Sarah Addison Allen. I liked most of the characters and loved following them through the past and present to see how everything turned out.

This is the 2nd novel by Joshilyn Jackson that I have read and I am quickly becoming a fan. I actually listened to this as an audio book and she was the narrator of her book. She did a phenomenal job and I couldn‘t wait to finish listening!

Just finished listening to A Grown-up Kind of Pretty and I'm having a hard time deciding which Joshilyn Jackson book is my favorite! This story is told through three voices, daughter, mother, and grandmother. It is full of surprises and will bring both tears to your eyes and smiles!

This was my first Joshilyn Jackson audiobook and I loved it so much. Neil Gaiman and Jackson are some of the best author narrators out there. I read it along with a now defunct Twitter book club. Great memories. The battered box is a sign of how well it was loved, I promise.

Marla I listened to it too and really enjoyed it! 8y
susanw I've had this sitting on my shelf for way too long. I've never read her, but the title and cover pic are so sweet looking I had to own it. 8y
