Well, this really was such a lovely little book full of simple wisdom. I especially liked the emphasis on how our ancestors live inside us and that we are never really alone because they have been with us since the beginning of time. Just gorgeous prose!

"Meditation is simply the practice of stopping and looking deeply. You do not need to sit to meditate. Anytime you are looking deeply - whether you are walking, chopping vegetables, brushing your teeth, or going to the bathroom - you can be meditating. In order to look deeply, you need to make the time to stop everything and see what is there."

I like to have one fiction and one non-fiction book going simultaneously, switching back and forth between chapters. I'll also insert a short story here and there to break up the monotony. I'm treating the one above as a non-fiction book of sorts. It's short but has good reviews here on Litsy. 🙃

I was grocery shopping at Mom‘s Organic Market and when I turned a corner, there was a display of books!!! This was a first for this store. Not shown are two more titles, “How To Relax” and “How To Love”. I wanted all of them, but somehow I controlled myself! 💪🏻 (this time. 😉)

"Happiness isn't possible without freedom"

I chose to practice how to sit here, on a bench beneath a beech tree in the churchyard at Becconsall. I should make time to do this more often. I'm appreciating this little book and its quiet wisdom.

I usually love winter, but I can't wait for spring when the garden house will be ready for my new reading chair and ottoman to be put to good use. I know some people use the term 'she-shed', but for some reason that phrase really irritates me. #readingchair #readingnook

Managed to get 10 whole minutes in reading and reflecting on #howtosit ... and then the invasion of the littles kept me from anything resembling sitting for the rest of the day. Love visits from the kiddos so much. ❤ It will be many years before they appreciate Thich Nhat Hanh's philosophies like I do though 😅

2017, Book 13 "No matter where we are, whenever we're sitting, over our heads there is a river of trillions of stars. We are sitting on a planet, a very beautiful planet, which is revolving in the Milky Way galaxy. When we sit with that awareness, we can embrace the whole world, from the past to the future. When we sit like that, our happiness is very great."

There isn't much to say about this book. You must read this. Only reading calms you down. I wasn't at a bookstore today so I ordered the next books online. That's the best promotion.

Thank you @Faibka for sharing. 😙

vivastory These sound really great 8y

Sarah83 @Faibka I just ordered How to eat and How to love too. 😍 8y
Faibka @vivastory they are, give them a try :) 8y
Faibka @Sarah83 great! 👍👏👏 8y
Sarah83 @Faibka Do you have a favourite in this series? 8y
Faibka @Sarah83 ? it's difficult to say because they're all very good and in a way say the same thing "become more aware" but how to eat/walk provided a whole new perspective on how I perform those activities which I've always done mindlessly or multitasking with something else. Which one will you read next? :) 8y
Sarah83 @Faibka Quite a good answer. 😉 mmhhh.. I'm not sure, but I think after December and Christmas eatings it will be 'How to eat'. The jeans doesn't fit as good as before 😉 8y
elkeOriginal It's fun seeing the German title 😁 I saw a box set of the series last week and was very tempted... 8y
Faibka @Sarah83 I hear you, my clothes have mysteriously shrunk 😁 I think I'll need to reread it 8y
Sarah83 @elkeo I love that the haven't change the cover besides the language. 😉 often german books are illustrated in another way than the english are and I adore the english covers. 😉 You show buy them. The first one was really good and @Faibka said they are all well done. 🖒 8y
Sarah83 @Faibka or you reread walk than the clothes fit better too. 😂 maybe I should organise this one for me too. 😂 8y
elkeOriginal I think I have at least 2 at home - I just need to SIT and read them 😉 8y
Sarah83 @elkeo Give them a try. 😉 8y

Bevor ich mit dem nächsten Buch für #LitsyAtoZ weitermache, schiebe ich das kleine Buch links ein, damit ich weiß, wie ich mich beim Lesen zu verhalten habe. 😍😉

Before I start the next book for #LitsyAtoZ, I read the little book besides, since I know how to behave at currently reading. 😍😉

Lovely book. Simple way to start meditation practice.
"Instead of describing sitting meditation as the practice of concentration, looking deeply, and getting insight, I like to describe sitting as enjoying doing nothing. Primarily, sitting is to enjoy the pleasure of sitting, being fully alive and in touch with the wonders of our working bodies, the cool air, the sounds of people and birds, and the changing colors of the sky."

✨"The present moment contains the whole of life"✨
Reading this book is like holding in your hands a warm cup of tea. The writing is simple and yet profound with practical insights on what mindfulness is and how to incorporate it in your every day. At the end he provides a few easy guided meditations. Though the focus is on sitting, he advises on how to be mindful in whatever activity you're doing. Next up: How to Eat ?

Crinoline_Laphroaig @Faibka Should I buy on Kindle or Print? 8y
Faibka @missnavigation I think whichever you choose should be good, I went for the paperback since I liked the format, you can read the writing on one page while looking at an illustration on the other, which I like :) 8y

Amandajoy This is in my Barnes & Noble cart, I've been debating a purchase for days. 8y
Faibka @Amandajoy I'm loving it so far, it's small but to me it's a slow read as I try to put it into practice. It's great if you're into meditation, I've been in a kind of slump so it's really helping me feel more grounded in the present. As he puts it: "the present moment contains the whole of life". 8y

Laura317 I prefer to go into my "mind palace" like Sherlock. Seriously, meditation or prayer is something I find so beneficial! ? 8y
Faibka @Laura317 it is! But since you brought up memory palaces, I read a book called "The Memory Palace: How to Learn Anything and Everything" (I couldn't find it listed here) it's really cool and shows you how to build one, maybe not as awesome as Sherlock's but still quite neat ? 8y
