The Nonesuch | Georgette Heyer

"Triumphantly good?Georgette Heyer is unbeatable." ? India Knight, Sunday Telegraph An impetuous flight... Tiffany Wield's bad behavior is a serious trial to her chaperone. "On the shelf " at twenty-eight, Ancilla Trent strives to be a calming influence on her tempestuous charge, but then Tiffany runs off to London alone and Ancilla is faced with a devastating scandal. A gallant rescue... Sir Waldo Hawkridge, confirmed bachelor and one of the wealthiest men in London, comes instantly to the aid of the intrepid Ancilla to stop Tiffany's flight, and in the process discovers that it's never too late for the first bloom of love. "A writer of great wit and style? I've read her books to ragged shreds." Kate Fenton, Daily Telegraph WHAT READERS SAY ABOUT THE NONESUCH: "A lovely, entertaining read, full of deliciously entertaining character studies, witty dialogue, a gentle secondary romance and, of course, the main love story. This is another of Heyer's 'older heroine' novels, subtle, romantic, and very enjoyable. Highly recommended!" "One of the wittiest stories Heyer has concocted, that will have you chuckling to yourself." "The same flashes of wit, the wonderful dialogue, and the ridiculous intrigue that are all the ingredients of a first-rate Georgette Heyer." "No other novelist recreates the manners, dress, behaviour, and language of the Regency period as well as [Georgette Heyer] did." "Heyer moves into Austen territory?delightfully!"

This has been my handbag book for the last few weeks & I‘ve enjoyed it in a quite a few places. It took me a little while to warm up to Waldo, but I loved Ancilla from the start and I got plenty of laughs from the dreadful Tiffany. Among my favourite Heyer‘s so far @mabell @willaful

willaful Yay! 6mo
mabell So glad you enjoyed it! It‘s been quite a few years since I read it (in fact the only name I remembered was Tiffany 😆) - I‘ll have to revisit! 6mo
LeahBergen I liked this one, too! 6mo

Visiting Sydney. It‘s a perfect day for a harbour cruise so I took a trip on the Manly ferry and treated myself to an ice cream on the Corso. Bliss!

Ehh, this was cute but I‘ve read Heyer novels with much more ingenuity & wit. The characters were great, so the story started out on pretty good footing, but then devolved from there into a very placid sort of love story. The plot hit all the right notes, but at a very tepid temperature. Ultimately a fail for me. ★★☆☆☆.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive collection. No description. No explanation. Some will be old. Some will be new. Don't judge me. I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.

Note: I had never read this one before and was tickled to find it. But I found very dull and was worried that I didn‘t remember Heyer well. Maybe she was not as lively as I remembered. But I then I started re-reading Powder and Patch and it is as alive and charming as I remember her writing being.

Finish rereading The Nonesuch for the first time in decades. It is not one of my favorite Heyer novels. Both female love interests were noble and a bit prissy. I much prefer the naughtier Hero Wantage in Friday's Child. I listened to the wonderfully narrated audible version and kindle.

Book the Second in My Year of Georgette Heyer! While The Nonesuch wasn't quite as captivating for me as The Convenient Marriage, the banter was just top notch. And she slayed me with yet another perfect proposal scene, this one just devastating. Onward and upward!

Nafiza I just wrote the world's most awkward proposal scene. 8y

Well we all knew my #authorlove is Georgette Heyer, right? She's written mysteries, historical fiction, regency romances, and nonfiction. Her regencies are the best - like Jane Austen, but funnier. I love her so much I own two copies of almost all of her 60-odd titles; old crappy ones I bought in England years ago, and the pretty reprints they've started issuing in the last few years. ❤❤❤ #17booklove

It all started with my local library and Georgette Heyer. I read all her historical romances and mysteries and then moved on to Mills and Boon romances, from there it was a slippery slope to Harlequins! It's a #uniquefact about me that I will still buy bundles of Harlequins at booksale and , horror , read them.🙁

SusanInTiburon I've read a couple by Georgette Heyer and quite enjoyed them. Give it to me straight, Doc: how much time do I have left? 8y
