Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time
Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time | Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington
We are in the midst of a sleep deprivation crisis, writes Arianna Huffington, the co-founder and editor in chief of "The Huffington Post." And this has profound consequences on our health, our job performance, our relationships and our happiness. What is needed, she boldly asserts, is nothing short of a sleep revolution. Only by renewing our relationship with sleep can we take back control of our lives. In her bestseller"Thrive," Arianna wrote aboutour need to redefine success through well-being, wisdom, wonder, and giving. Her discussion of the importance of sleep as a gateway to this more fulfilling way of livingstruck such a powerful chord that she realized themystery andtransformativepower of sleep called for a fuller investigation. The result is a sweeping, scientifically rigorous, and deeply personal exploration of sleep from all angles, fromthe history of sleep, to the role of dreams in our lives, to the consequences of sleep deprivation, andthe newgolden age of sleep science that is revealingthe vital role sleep plays inour every waking moment andevery aspect of our health fromweight gain, diabetes, and heart disease to cancerand Alzheimer s. In"The Sleep Revolution," Arianna shows how our cultural dismissal of sleep as time wasted compromises our health and our decision-making and undermines our work lives, our personal lives --and even our sex lives. She explores all the latest science on what exactly is going on while we sleep and dream. She takes on the dangerous sleeping pill industry, and all the ways our addiction to technology disrupts our sleep. She also""offers a range of recommendations and tips from leading scientists on how we can get better and more restorative sleep, and harness its incredible power. In today's fast-paced, always-connected, perpetually-harriedand sleep-deprived world, our need for a good night s sleep is more important and elusive -- than ever."The Sleep Revolution"both sounds the alarm on our worldwide sleep crisis and provides a detailed road map to the great sleep awakening that can help""transform our lives, our communities, and our world."

I just finished listening to this on audio. This was between a pick and a so-so for me. It wasn‘t a bad book at all - it had some great info/advice. But I read Why We Sleep earlier this year and ultimately liked it better. It was honestly a better audio experience for me - that narrator was more soothing I think.

💫💫💫💫 Educational, easy to read, insightful.

This easy to follow novel has all you need to find how to sleep better. The first part covers the history of sleeping disorders then the second part gives easy to follow steps along with suggested phone apps to use. I found the poems beautiful and uplifting.

Such an informative book all about our sleep problems and how to change our horrible behavior regarding devices, caffeine and other sleep robbing habits. Read it if you have problems with sleep. 4⭐️

JennyM I read this a while back and it was very good. Informative and entertaining 👍 5y

This is my current read. It‘s all about the importance of sleep. There‘s a lot of interesting parts, but at times it can be a bit hard to get through. Hoping it gets better!

Only made it to about hour 10 of the #13in3 unfortunately, but at least I finished this book, which was really interesting and I think will push me to attempt to get more sleep and better sleep. I didn't care too much about the dream analysis section. I just want to not be tired all the time. This is perfect t for anyone who may deal with insomnia or other sleeping struggles.

Moray_Reads I feel your pain. It's they staying asleep that's my biggest problem! 6y
JennyM I thought this was really well done - well researched and nice writing style 6y

I originally pulled this one out for a #TuneIntoNovember picture after I had shelved it about halfway through two years ago. I felt moved to start reading it again, and the last three nights I've already been better about going to bed earlier and not feeling tired in the morning before work. Sleep is so important to your health and many people don't make it a priority. I'm with Arianna that we need to change the mindset around it. Naps are cool!

mrozzz Agreed!! Getting enough good sleep can solve so many health problems and not to mention, makes it much easier to get through a workday 😆 7y
Kaylamburson Yes, 100%! There is an increased chance of diabetes, Alzheimer's, cancer, obesity, and walking into traffic lol if you don't sleep enough!! @mrozzz 7y
mrozzz ? "walking into traffic".... you're not wrong!! 7y

Kaylamburson Hahahaha especially here in NYC! Lol @mrozzz 7y
mrozzz Oh I know! The threat of standing too close to the corner when a bus speeds by is a constant threat when I'm exhausted 😪 7y
Kaylamburson And you have to worry about other tired New Yorkers stumbling and pushing you on the train tracks! Scary stuff lol. @mrozzz 7y
mrozzz Always! I read a study awhile back that said the biggest fear of New Yorkers in falling/being pushed onto the tracks. It was just above fire on the list of fears. 7y
Kaylamburson That's crazy! But yeah it is my biggest fear here in NYC. There are some crazies. @mrozzz 7y

I started this one a couple years ago and was loving it, but it was so hard to keep reading as whenever I would read it, it essentially told me to put the book down and go to bed 😂. However, it's perfect for #WakeUpCall for #TuneintoNovember as it really hits home how important good sleep is for a fully functioning, healthy body. (And that's also the name of part one!)
@Cinfhen @Robothugs

EchoLogical I loved this one but I'm also a huge believer in the power of adequate rest so I might be biased 😄. I listened to the audio and really enjoyed her sister reading it. There was a good balance of anecdotes to make it personal but also enough actual science for the reader to learn from it. 7y
Kaylamburson Yes, agreed! I wish all my bosses would read it and get on board with nap pods lol. It's proven that there would be more productivity!! I actually decided to pick up where I left off and the chapter on lucidity dreaming is fascinating. I am a big lucid dreamer! @EchoLogical 7y

Absolutely loved this book! As a firm believer in the power of sleep, I just had to read this. So glad I did... It was the perfect combination of personal stories, anecdotes, and actual science... Easily relatable (with a few exceptions) and full of easily digestible information (history, dreaming, etc). Though there is no "one fits all" cure to poor sleep, this book offers an abundance of possible steps to take for better sleep

tpixie My husband needs this. 8y
EchoLogical @tpixie Mine too but I'll never be able to convince him that he does 😅 8y

I really liked this book! I'm fascinated by the subject of sleep and self-care, and I usually bail on non fiction about three quarters through. But this one kept my interest. I love the authors writing, and since hearing her on a podcast I now imagined each word in her stunning Greek accent. 4 and a half stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Was at the library with the boys and couldn't resist peeking in the sale room.☺️ I loved Arianna Huffington's other book, "Thrive". I have had Wild on my TBR forever so happy to snag it! I already read The Blossom Street book but I wanted to use the cover as color inspiration for my coloring book.

I'd heard a few podcasts featuring Arianna as she promoted this book and it seemed brilliant. However I found the writing style distracting. For a sleep disciple (it's my hobby), there wasn't much actionable advice. Would be good for my sleep deprived friends!

This reads like a heavily padded high school research paper. There are quotes from books, cherry-picked statistics and anecdotes from anyone and everyone who agrees we are all sleep deprived. Aside from the bit about Winston Churchill, I learned nothing. Little content, lots of repetition.

Megabooks That is really sad! 8y
LauraJ @Ebooksandcooks Seriously, everyone @Litsy could just add a comment, book quote or googled fact about sleep and we'd probably end up with a better book. 8y

Heard some really great things about this book. Not a huge fan if these types of "self-help" book but as someone whose sleep habits are not exactly normal it will be interesting to see if I could pick up some ideas on how to become a more "normal" sleeper ?

Sleep is in high demand but is something we often cannot get enough of. This book explores how the whole world seems to not be getting enough sleep. She explores the true cost of a sleep-deprived society from automobile accidents to less production on the job.
