The Slump
The Slump: Britain in the Great Depression | Chris Cook, John Stevenson
6 posts
The 1930s, remembered as the decade of dole queues, hunger marches, & mass unemployment, also saw the development of new industries, the growth of suburbia, & rising standards of living for many. In this book, the authors look behind the legends for an objective reassessment, as Britain again struggles with recession & unemployment.

Littens, I‘m in the biggest slump ever 😫😫
We‘re coming up to over 2.5 months of limited reading and no energy or motivation to read. I haven‘t even been very active on Litsy either

THIS IS THE WORST AGH 🤬😭😭 #bookslump #sendhelp #missyouall

AkashaVampie Aww im sorry to hear that sweetie!! It sucks when a slump comes along. What type of books do u usually like read? 4y
Eggbeater Here's hoping that slump ends soon! 💕 4y
Hestapleton I feel this. Slumps pass! Don‘t fight it! Just do whatever brings you joy at the moment. The books will be there when you‘re ready. :) 4y

LiteraryinLawrence That‘s so hard! I agree that you shouldn‘t try to force it. You are still a reader if you don‘t read the same amount in every season of your life. 💗 4y
PurpleyPumpkin Argh, I hate when that happens! But you‘ll find your way back to reading, hopefully sooner than later. Maybe you just need the new year and a new beginning. 👍🏽😉💜 4y
Sace Like others, I also find it helpful to just accept the slump and find joy elsewhere for now. I had a slump that lasted at least a year, but eventually the desire to read came back and books started interesting me again. 4y
BookwormAHN Reading slumps suck, have you tried audio books? Sometimes they help. 4y
EllieDottie I know how you feel! This sums up my 2019! You‘re not alone! Sending good vibes!! 4y
KirstieE @AkashaVampie usually I read YA, fantasy or thriller! 4y
KirstieE @Eggbeater @Hestapleton @LiteraryinLititz @PurpleyPumpkin @Sace @BookwormAHN @EllieDottie I think I‘ll do what you guys suggested and not fight it and just accept it! Hopefully the new year will give me my boost back ! 4y
AkashaVampie @KirstieE those are good genres. Not telling u what to do by any means but I have 2 book clubs if u would like to join. Anyone is welcome at anytime. The links are in my info on my page if u are interested. In each group we read 1 book a month (so if u join both it would only be 2 books a month), so that it's not too much. One is a paranormal romance club and the other is book to show/movie club. 4y
AkashaVampie @KirstieE next month is Fairy/Fae for paranormal romance which is the book Influential Magic. And the book to movie is Sci-fi which is The Martian 4y
Captivatedbybooks Hey mama! How‘s the family and you guys? Are you effected by the fires? Your in my thoughts and prayers! 4y
TheNeverendingTBR You get through it? I'm similar right now, not read in 8 days! 😏 4y
TheNeverendingTBR Hope you're doing well! 3y

I‘m slumping. Hard. Life‘s been busy and I‘m tired and about to get more in my plate at work. Definitely slumping. Trying not to be too bummed about it, reading good books just not reading.

😐 also I always get super jealous and want a second thanksgiving haha. Send me your mashed potatoes!

JacqMac We are having a second Thanksgiving. We lived in the US for awhile and we miss Thanksgiving the most. 4y

I can't get out of this reading slump! I've tried to read 4 books in the last week (all for book clubs that need to get read this month). None of them are doing it for me; and 3 of them are my own picks (sorry #lmpbc #GroupK #SFMBC and #TeamCthulhu).
I'm just not over Britt-Marie Was Here yet. That book wrecked me and nothing else will do.
What to do?!? I need something good, fast paced, and frivolous to jump start my reading. Any ideas?

jb72 Sometimes you just need a day or two to breath through a book. Maybe try a few kid books to jump start your reading. I‘ve done that before. Or even some picture books (kid or adult). 5y
Bklover Maeve Binchy broke my last slump. Try A Week in Winter or pretty much anything else she wrote. Good luck - I hate slumps!!!💙 5y
NeedsMoreBooks I read that and felt the same way. Attacked my TBR 😊 5y

Cinfhen I just listened to the audio from David Sedaris... he‘s hilarious and I think short musings are a good way to jumpstart your reading slump. I listened via Hoopla 5y
wanderinglynn I did some Neil Gaiman audiobooks (I could listen to him read anything) and focused on other hobbies. (edited) 5y
Crazeedi That has happened to me before!! Nothing will satisfy! Try a podcast about books or maybe an audio book? Or just read a couple interesting things online... 5y
BarbaraBB I‘d go for a fast paced easy read with an unusual plot. Two books come to mind now: 5y
MaleficentBookDragon @BarbaraBB I just read My Sister, the Serial Killer recently. I really liked it. Good choice. 5y
JoScho Love this picture. Good luck with the slump. 5y
Avanders Maybe try a book on audio to ease you into the beginning, and once you‘re hooked, switch to the book? I also agree w thrillers .. they pull you in easily... likewise w YA..... 😁 5y

Oh yes! Everytime when I read, I just can't focus! I hit the dreaded reading slump for almost one month now 😥

Crazeedi It'll pass I promise! Have you tried listening to podcasts or audio books or just check our articles online to read etc. I went through a couple times like this, I couldn't concentrate. It's not fun and I missed reading 5y
TheBookHippie Try a childhood favorite ? 5y

In a complete reading slump due to issues at work. I am managing to keep up with #SerialReader though. Somehow the bite size is easier to takle than a big book. #mtbr 🏔️ stares at me, disappointed. Sure I'll get back into it soon though. Looking forward to #mounttbrreadathon

Once again, I am entering into my holiday reading slump. I am not a Christmas person but I am surrounded by would-be Santa Clauses. Every December, I struggle with reading - nothing seems to “fit”. Anyone else experience this? What do you do about it?

ReadingSusan I usually read a lot more in December but this year I haven‘t had the time. I haven‘t finished one book this month 6y
LindaGrace812 Listening to A Discovery of Witches was a really good choice. It‘s a comfortable and engaging listen, and it‘s helping me through my “Ho Ho No” season. 😊 6y
