Silent Sister
Silent Sister | Diane Chamberlain
"Chamberlain's powerful story is a page-turner to the very end." -"Library Journal"Riley MacPherson has spent her entire life believing that her older sister Lisa committed suicide as a teenager. It was a belief that helped shape her own childhood and that of her brother. It shaped her view of her family and their dynamics. It influenced her entire life. Now, more than twenty years later, her father has passed away and she's in New Bern, North Carolina, cleaning out his house when she finds evidence that what she has always believed is not the truth. Lisa is alive. Alive and living under a new identity. But why, exactly, was she on the run all those years ago? What secrets are being kept now, and what will happen if those secrets are revealed? As Riley works to uncover the truth, her discoveries will put into question everything she thought she knew about her family. Riley must decide what the past means for her present, and what she will do with her newfound reality. Told with Diane Chamberlain's powerful prose and illumination into the human heart and soul, "The Silent Sister" is an evocative novel of love, loss, and the bonds among siblings. "Enthralling and gripping...Chamberlain has a gift for telling stories about families whose good intentions go awry in difficult circumstances. Her characters are always portrayed with an understanding that sometimes life's most tragic mistakes require heroic strength to survive." -"Book Reporter"

It had been a long time since I‘d read anything by this author, but I‘d forgotten how much I enjoyed her stories. This one kept me reading right up until the end (which was mildly sappy).

Book 29

The Silent Sister by Diane Chamberlain is an intriguing, easy-to-listen-to novel. Riley returns home after her father's death to empty out and sell his house and learns he kept familial secrets. The characters aren't equally fleshed-out, but most of them are worthy of compassion. The story's engaging but ephemeral. 3.75 ⭐️s

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.5 Stars

What happened to Riley‘s sister, Lisa, all those years ago? Did she kill herself? And why?

This one kept me up all last night until I finished, and I‘m not one to do that. I didn‘t want to stop. I personally found it predictable (I guessed what happened pretty much from the start), but that didn‘t spoil the book for me in the least bit.

It‘s a little rainy and windy today, courtesy of Hurricane Dorian. But it‘s not nearly as bad here as in other places. Hoping everyone along the coast is safe.

It‘s a good day to stay in and start a new book snuggled under my super soft blanket. I‘ve had this one for at least a year so it‘s probably time to give it a try.

I have read several of Diane Chamberlain's books. This is probably my least favorite. It was very slow at times, but the story was good, although a bit predictable. If you are interested in reading her books, I suggest Necessary Lies to begin with!

The first 100 pages during Book 1 are slow. You‘re wondering if things will pick up a bit. However once Book 2 starts, it changes perspective between two women and you‘re left with shocking moments and twists and turns. If you can get through the first 100 pages, you‘ll enjoy the rest.

“They‘d looked forward to the trial that would never happen now, because the seventeen-year-old girl—the seventeen-year-old murderer, most were sure—now rested somewhere beneath that rocky expanse of ice.” First page of the book, and I am HOOKED.

Another good read from Diane Chamberlain. This one was filled with twists and turns, some I saw coming and some I didn‘t. The characters are flawed and interesting and the book really flows well. I found it to be a real page turner and a well deserved 4 stars!

Wow! This got an 80% on Litsy? Unbelievable. As far as I'm concerned, this book is between a "So So" and a "Pan". In the end, "Silent Sister"is a big thumbs down. The pacing is slow, it's extremely predictable, and the so called twist is as weak as water. The only reason I kept on reading is because I wanted to see whether or not the protagonist would grow a spine and dump her a-hole for a boyfriend. That was the best part! ?

Once again this author does not disappoint. Another addictive book that I couldn't put down. I know some reviewers have said it was predictable and to a certain extend I agree but I think with this author in particular it's not about guessing the big parts, it's more about how all the small pieces fit together. I'd recommend this book highly.
