Edgedancer | Brandon Sanderson
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, a special gift edition of Edgedancer, a short novel of the Stormlight Archive (previously published in Arcanum Unbounded). Three years ago, Lift asked a goddess to stop her from growing older--a wish she believed was granted. Now, in Edgedancer, the barely teenage nascent Knight Radiant finds that time stands still for no one. Although the young Azish emperor granted her safe haven from an executioner she knows only as Darkness, court life is suffocating the free-spirited Lift, who can't help heading to Yeddaw when she hears the relentless Darkness is there hunting people like her with budding powers. The downtrodden in Yeddaw have no champion, and Lift knows she must seize this awesome responsibility. Probably an unpopular opinion but I wasn‘t super jazzed about this read. I really liked Lift for the one chapter in Words of Radiance and it‘s not to say I don‘t like the character now but I it didn‘t enjoy a whole book where I felt the character did only a minor bit of development and the rest was just kinda fluff. I‘m sure I‘ll feel differently when I read the next book as many say this is an important read for the rest of the series

I liked this overall. However, it's been a few years since I've been in this universe. #8 #2024

Following one of Sanderson‘s stormlight side characters Edgedancer is nice as a quick read. It wasn‘t my favourite of Sanderson‘s short stories, but it‘s still enjoyable enough.

For the majority of this book I couldn't stand Lift. She kinda drives me crazy with all her awesomeness and her inability to listen or be responsible.
But in the end I get why those things were punctuated and I see the birth of a fantastic character.

This one is also packed with additional info that will no doubt play a big part in the whole of the Stormlight Archives.

Love the MC, Lift. This novella was a nice interlude in the series. It helped me catch my breath before taking on the tome that is next in the lineup. The audiobook version was delightful.

I‘m not a short story person, if I‘m being honest, but if you miss a short story in the Cosmere you might miss something big. I didn‘t love Edgedancer, but I did like it. It introduced some story lines that I‘m interested in. I can‘t wait to see where they go in the next book.

This wasn‘t in my plans, but when I went to start Oathbringer, Sanderson highly recommended reading this first so I did. It is a fun little caper with a delightful character you meet briefly in Words of Radiance. Though you could read this on it‘s own, you will only fully understand if you have read previous Stormlight Archive books. 4⭐️

A short novella focused on one of the side characters from the Stormlight Archives. Lift is a brash young girl with powers beyond her comprehension. It was fun and light, but it didn‘t keep my interest as much as the rest of the series.

Spent my Sunday reading this fun novella in preparation for starting Oathbringer tomorrow. I love Lift and her stubborn immaturity.

Reading this one at the moment which focuses on a character from the Stormlight Archives called Lift.

I've come across a lot of people who don't like the character Lift, but I quite like her myself and am enjoying reading.

She's stubborn and brash and she has a wierd set of rules she sticks to, even to her own detriment.

This was so much fun! It focused on one of the minor characters from Words of Radiance and her tone is a nice temporary shift from the somewhat heavier previous books. (Don‘t get me wrong, I like the weight they have, but a breather is nice.) I particularly like the interaction between her and her spren, both with how dissimilar they are and how they both grow over the course of the couple of days this novella covers.

This was an alright novella. I will have to say that I wasn't invested as much as I normally am with Sanderson books, and that is solely because I don't know if I enjoy Lift over any of the other characters. This made it hard for me to be engaged, but it does have some good exposition that prepared me for Oathbringer.

HotdogZanzabaar @vivastory I‘ve heard!!! I‘m so excited. This might be hard to hear for some people but “The Stormlight Archive” IMO is much better than “A Song Of Ice And Fire”. I was so looking forward to the next GRRM book but now I couldn‘t care less, I need more Kaladin 😂 5y

“The world ends tomorrow, but the day after that, people are going to ask what‘s for breakfast.” —Lift

I love her! I do NOT get the people who are “meh” on her. Lift is… “AWESOME”!

Definitely a must-read PRIOR to Oathbringer (Stormlight Archive 3). I almost accidentally messed that up; I‘m glad I stopped myself in time! Critical info is revealed. The character development as well as display of this city is great, which you‘d also otherwise miss.

It was so good to get back to Roshar! I love the series, and this novella did not disappoint. Lift is a lot of fun, and I liked exploring a different part of the world.

May has turned into my month to tackle mega-chunksters and a friend gave me a doozy to read so I‘ll be tackling it instead of book 3 in the Stormlight Archive.

Still I couldn‘t stay away from Roshar all year and this fast, fun little novella about uncouth young thief Lift really hit the spot. Even with reduced page count, Sanderson still brought the plot twists and an emotional punch of an ending (see spoiler in comments).

TobeyTheScavengerMonk I am an absolute sucker for an ending where the villain sees the error of their way and embraces the hero. 6y

#Indigo had x2 points on any book purchase today so I picked up this cute lil bugger!

I already own this novella from when it was originally published in the Arcanum Unbounded but I says to myself...ehhh. 🤷‍♂️ 😅

And now I have an excuse one afternoon to read it again. 🤗

Edgedancer was an action packed and humor filled novelette and I loved it! Be warned it only makes sense if you‘ve been emerged in the Stormlight archive world. Happy reading!

TiffanyMichele Also it was the first book I read on my kindle this year! Off to read Oathbringer on the Libby app. 6y

Back to Sanderson! I honestly didn‘t love Lift‘s character in the main series. I often found her annoying. But this novella changed my view of her and now she‘s one of my favorite characters. Plus it contains the only instance of the use of a Shardfork-which made me laugh pretty hard. This felt like an interlude from one of the main novels where we get to see other cultures, but with some more world-changing events occurring. #stormlightarchive

Edgedancer is a novella set in the Cosmere, a multi novel universe created by Brandon Sanderson. It was originally included in "Arcanum Unbounded" as part of its collection and then later released on its own. Definitely one of the best books I've read all year! The main character is fun and scrappy and the writing style is wonderful.

What a fun short story! Brandon Sanderson and my brother said I needed to read this book before Oathbringer. I didn't listen. In the end I think that it's okay if you don't read this first but it does clarify some stuff in Oathbringer. Also, I am childish so I thought this little quote was hilarious.
