The One and Only | Emily Giffin

The Number One New York Times bestseller. Ask yourself: what would you do if the one for you was the only person you couldn't have?Shea Rigsby is content enough with her life in the small town of Walker, Texas. She has her dream fangirl job working for Walker's football team, a mostly satisfactory relationship with her boyfriend, and even if she's got the sneaking feeling life is passing her by, she doesn't quite have the confidence to do anything about it.But everything changes when the mother of Lucy, Shea's best friend, dies suddenly. Lucy's father, now a widower, is the town's charismatic football coach, and Shea's hero since she was a young girl. Coach Carr is now alone as he and Shea grow closer than ever, Shea realises she can't help how she feels . . . for the father of her best friend, who's grieving for his wife.THE ONE & ONLY is a thoughtful, luminous and brilliantly observed novel about believing in something amazing for yourself.

The author immediately draws you into Shea and her life. Feeling stagnant in life when her best friend‘s mother dies, Shea finally starts taking chances and begins to grow up. Most of all, this is a sweet love story.

Meh. Probably my least favorite Emily Giffin novel that I‘ve read. Falling in love with your best friend‘s dad is just too weird for me.

Is this teal @BarbaraTheBibliophage ?! That was hard! Lol thank you for the tag! 👗📚

@Allylu @AprilMae @CarolineLovesToRead can you find some silver books?!

Butterfinger Hahaha. I googled teal to make sure. I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I get teal mixed up with aqua. 5y

BookishMe @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Butterfinger are you sure it wasn't turquoise you saw?? Hehehe 5y
Butterfinger @BookishMe I made sure it was teal, but they are so similar and my book could have been turquoise. 😂 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @BookishMe yes!! I googled the color and compared it 🤣🤣 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣🤣 (edited) 5y
BookishMe @Butterfinger ikr... I simply believe teal is a synonym for turquoise. Hehehe @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks 5y

I wanted to like this book. It has everything I love - Texas and football. It even has some pretty good details that you pick up if you live in the DFW area. But then it gets weird and the choices the main character starts to make, makes me feel icky.

And I think I remember why I had not read one of this authors books in a while. Life‘s too short to read books I am not enjoying - moving on to the next one. 👍😁

Haven‘t read anything from Emily Griffin in a while. Being a Texas girl, I am a sucker for just about anything set in Texas 😁

I faced a moral dilemma with this book. Do I turn my phone on airplane mode or not to cheat the library return schedule to hear the ending of this book or do I I wait the 4 weeks to finish the last two hours? I chose to put my phone on airplane mode...
Enjoyed this book although the story traveled down an unexpected road. Wanted to finish because the suspense was killing me. Good listen! Recommend if you are an Emily Giffin fan.

This to me wasn't anything special, parts of it felt super dramatic and rushed. The ending was more of a "happy ending" and I found myself growing bored with the main characters. So-so for me!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I felt exactly the same... 😐 7y
Kendra.Diane @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I was excited to read this but I just was annoyed with everyone in this book 🤣 it was nothing to write home about 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Kendra.Diane me too... her last couple books have felt that way to me... 😳😊 7y

Though I'm a football fan, keeping up with the lingo was nearly exhausting. I had to stop reading several times through the first half just to stay focused. The last third of the book is where it finally picks up & the story is focused.

#FeistyFeb #MostReread is #HarryPotter #ChangedYourMindAbout is The One & Only because I typically do not like "chic lit" but this one made me more open minded to trying genres such as "beach reads."

This was my first experience with Giffin's work, and I really enjoyed it. I'm a huge football girl, so I loved that aspect of it. The relationship issues were complex, and while the ending was predictable, I still liked it.

Megabooks I've had this in my TBR pile for awhile. I'll have to move it up! 9y
