An early book (2001)of Lisa Jewell and nothing like her more recent ones. It plods along with predictable characters and plot - not what I was expecting at all 🙁 and was tedious.

Andrew65 One or two of her early books weren‘t the best and had a different vibe and feel. 1y

It's been an incredibly long and exhausting week. I got duck over Christmas and my symptoms were mild but it dragged on forever so I've been in a book slump. I have not read very much of Lisa Jewell in the past but I loved a recent book that emphasized character development and I really enjoyed it so I'm trying to explore outside my comfort zone a tad bit. Well update soon!

Bluebird II read my first Lisa Jewell book not too long ago and enjoyed her writing style. I definitely plan to read more of her books. 1y

I enjoyed this book! I loved the characters and the plot, and not knowing until later how Bea died and her actual connection to Zander. Plus, I‘m a sucker for a happy ending!

Ana Wills arrives in London to clean out her half-sister's apartment after her death. Bee was a pop-singer and Ana dreamed of living that lifestyle. Ana decides to investigate Bee's secret life of a remote country cottage and an ex-boyfriend. Will what Ana finds out about Bee's death change her forever? This was an interesting read about the sisters' relationship and family happenings.

EadieB I enjoyed the characters of Zander, Lol and Flint and their witty discussions. Lisa Jewell is an entertaining writer and I plan on reading more of her books. If you like chic-lit then I think you will enjoy Lisa Jewell's books. 2y

Eggs I registered for your audio challenge this AM, BC it sounded so fun but then realized my plate is too full already 😕 3y
aperfectmjk @Eggs, that's okay... if you want to give it a shot, go for it, if not no worries. Trust me, I know how you feel. Work has me overwhelmed at the moment and I may or may not have had a breakdown today. 🥴 3y

A somber subject touching on suicide and loss but the story manages to avoid falling into the depressing darkness of grief, and focuses more on the opportunity the main character has to learn who her sister really was in the years leading up to her death. I thoroughly enjoyed the exploration and amateur sleuthing parts as the story unfolded.

Mehso-so

It took me a long time to get through the audiobook, which isn‘t the books fault. But, I think that made it feel a little disjointed to me. I went into it thinking it was more of a mystery but I found it to be more of a character development story about Ana as she grows during the journey of learning about her sister. Under different circumstances,I probably could have gone up to a Pick but this wasn‘t quite there for me.

Found this on Hoopla and giving it a try. Not super thrilled with the selection there lately and need to find some more things to put on my TBR list from there...

It‘s National One Hit Wonder Day. So it got me thinking about one hit authors. Two of my favorite books were written by authors who never wrote a 2nd novel. Emily Bronte with Wuthering Heights and Margaret Mitchell with Gone with the Wind! What‘s your favorite??

Lcsmcat Actually, Mitchell wrote 6y

Lcsmcat I‘d vote for Harper Lee, because I think Go Set a Watchman isn‘t really an independent novel. But that‘s just me. 😀 6y
jillannjohn @Lcsmcat Google is calling it a novella and Gone with the Wind her only “full book” but I didn‘t even know about it so now I‘m going to check it out! Thanks! 6y
Lcsmcat @jillannjohn It‘s a very different book from GWTW! I hope you enjoy it. 6y
BooknerdsLife Aww I love both of them.😍 6y
