Curious
Curious: True Stories and Loose Connections | Rebecca Front
5 posts | 1 read
Shortlisted for Non-fiction Book of the Year at the National Book Awards Read on BBC Radio 4 Sometimes things are more ordinary than you think. And sometimes they're a whole lot odder than you can possibly imagine . . . By turns poignant, comic and uplifting, CURIOUS is a book of stories from Rebecca Front's life, all of them true, though sometimes perhaps a little bent out of shape in the telling. It is a beguiling celebration of the curiosities of everyday life, and of what it is to be curious - in every sense of the word.

Noticed at lunch that all my physical books in progress had a #blackcover and were #nonfiction #firstpersonnarrative books 🤔 Guess there was a theme. 😂

CaliforniaCay Can't wait to hear your thoughts on journal of solitude. It's been sitting on my shelf for a while, haven't read it yet. 5y

Is there anyone in the Central VA/Richmond area who would like to have a meet up? Probably on a Thursday or Friday? If so, let me know, and we can plan something! I would love to get to know some Littens IRL ❤❤ (btw, why did I never know about BitMoji until now?)

ElishaLovesBooks Love your Blackhawks gear!😁 6y
vkois88 @ElishaLovesBooks 😊😊😊 I was so excited to see it!! 6y

Hello Littens! I run a Historical Fiction book club on Facebook for a group that originally started out of a MOOC. I'm curious to know if any of you would like to participate? I can add you to the group on FB or facilitate a discussion on Litsy or Slack. Many of my current participants don't actively participate, and I've got some good picks for 2018. I'd love to have real discussions instead of just basic comments.

sprainedbrain 🙋🏻‍♀️ historical fiction is my jam. I would be interested! 6y
slategreyskies I‘d consider it. Not 100% sure, but it does sound like a cool idea!! :) 6y
BrainyHeroine @sprainedbrain and @slategreyskies the current format is a week long "event" on FB for discussion every 6 weeks. So it's 9 books for next year. 6y

TricksyTails Sounds interesting but I don't do FB. I love historical fiction and would jump in if discussions were on Litsy. 6y
BrainyHeroine @TricksyTails I'm more than willing to post the details on Litsy for participating Littens! 6y
TricksyTails That'd be wonderful! (edited) 6y
sprainedbrain @BrainyHeroine I can definitely do 9 books in a year. I have fb, but don‘t use it much... I could make an exception for book club. 😃 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I might be—I‘d like to see the list of nine. I‘m on FB but Slack or here would be fine too. 6y
Amandajoy Of you posted the books and questions here, I might try to participate. But to be fair, I haven‘t been great at getting the books read for other Litsy book clubs 6y
BrainyHeroine @BarbaraTheBibliophage the books are: Tulip Fever, The Hamilton Affair, The Moon Moth, Before We Were Yours, Butterfly Island, The Essex Serpent, Lincoln in the Bardo, The Witches of New York, and The Cottingley Secret 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @BrainyHeroine Thanks. Some of these are definitely already on my list, or ones I‘ve read and would discuss. 6y
Rachellynnwright I would be interested, and I like the idea of having discussions on slack! 6y
Bloomingjen i love historical fiction and some of these are on my TBR so I would love to participate occasionally (I won't read all the books.) 6y

Cinfhen Thanks for tagging the crew....how could I have forgotten to do that @Booksandcooks 6y
Reviewsbylola I‘ve looked and looked. Nada. @Cinfhen @Booksandcooks 6y

NCNY The only thing I saw was a pic of Gabrielle Union. Maybe on their Instagram. So maybe she'll be guest judge and they'll offer her book as an extra. @Booksandcooks @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi @L_auren @swishandflick 6y
Cinfhen That makes sense @NCNY 6y
Redwritinghood Me too. They‘re being unusually stingy with spoilers this month. 6y
stuck.in.the.stacks I keep checking to see. I'm hoping this means there is going to be some thing extra amazing but we shall see. Only a week to go! 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘ve been wondering too!!!! 6y
TheLibrarian I‘ve been checking every day and nothing. It‘s freaking me out too. 6y
Beachesnbooks I've been wondering about this!! Hoping to see spoilers soon 🤞🏼 6y
Lissa00 I keep checking Litsy because usually someone‘s posted something by now!!! 6y
L_auren @Booksandcooks @Reviewsbylola @NCNY @emilyhaldi @Cinfhen They‘re onto us!! Is one of our litten friends a BOTM spy!? 6y
KarenUK Nada! I‘m so impatient! 6y
Cityofamber I‘m glad I‘m not the only one that‘s been looking nonstop 😂😭 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Cinfhen ikr!!!! 😑😐 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf I‘ve been checking almost every day and nothing. I guess they figured out how we got the information 😜🤷🏼‍♀️. @Reviewsbylola @Cinfhen @Booksandcooks @TheLibrarian @L_auren Last month I said I missed the surprise on the first of the month so I guess this month it will actually be a surprise!!! 6y
Reviewsbylola I know, I actually hope it‘s a surprise this month! Although if it‘s as bad as last month the disappointment will be harder to swallow. @irre 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf @Reviewsbylola I wasn‘t excited about last months either. I just bought Bonfire to use my credits on the secondary account so I could close it. Hopefully this month is better 🤞 6y
L_auren @Reviewsbylola at least it‘s the last month of the challenge #lovehate 6y
nosferatoos I have been checking all the usual places for two weeks now and NOTHING 😩😩😩 I need my spoilers! 6y
Megabooks @Reviewsbylola @L_auren half the books have sucked this month with 2 finished and 2 fairly in progress. I know y‘all didn‘t like October, but it was a good month for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I‘m actually kind of rooting for a surprise too. @irre 6y
Reviewsbylola I‘ve only finished two of the October books. The Dark Lake and After the Eclipse. I really liked them both BUT I am nervous for the other three. I would never read The Power and Beasts on my own. And the 53% rating for MB has me scared. However I‘ve never read Egan and I think maybe that will be to my benefit as I have nothing to compare it to. @Booksandcooks 6y
Megabooks @Reviewsbylola I loved The Power, but I seem to be the 🧀 so far in our group. I was so worried about Beasts, but the format and storylines in the book really worked for me. The format is semi epistolary, so if you like that, the format may push you into the pro column. Have you read Magic yet? I‘m really enjoying it. 6y
The_Heeler_Booklife I need to know spoilers since I just signed up. 😬 6y
stuck.in.the.stacks I loved Beasts and am planning on reading The Power in December. It has been a good reading month for my Book of the month picks. I read Future Home and The Martian. Still planning on getting to Little Fires this week. 6y
Cinfhen I totally skipped November, although I read an ARC for Magic, October I chose Power & MB (haven‘t read either one yet) and I read an ARC of Beasts. While I haven‘t been super impressed with the past 2/3 months I will say almost ALL of my top picks for the year have been from BOTM, so that counts for something @Reviewsbylola @Booksandcooks @L_auren @irre @felinesandfiction I‘m just dying to know what‘s in store for the year end choices!!!! (edited) 6y
Reviewsbylola I agree. Botm has released some phenomenal titles this year. Three chapters in to MB now. It‘s really good so far. @Cinfhen I am waiting on Magic, Beasts, and Tom Hanks from the library at the moment. @Booksandcooks 6y
L_auren @Cinfhen Totally agree!! Also... I‘ve been happy to see that I‘ve read many of the various award nominees this year hanks to BOTM @Reviewsbylola 6y
