Chasers of the Light
Chasers of the Light: Poems from the Typewriter Series | Tyler Knott Gregson
The epic made simple. The miracle in the mundane. One day, while browsing an antique store in Helena, Montana, photographer Tyler Knott Gregson stumbled upon a vintage Remington typewriter for sale. Standing up and using a page from a broken book he was buying for $2, he typed a poem without thinking, without planning, and without the ability to revise anything. He fell in love. Three years and almost one thousand poems later, Tyler is now known as the creator of the Typewriter Series: a striking collection of poems typed onto found scraps of paper or created via blackout method. Chasers of the Light features some of his most insightful and beautifully worded pieces of workpoems that illuminate grand gestures and small glimpses, poems that celebrate the beauty of a life spent chasing the light.

“All of these lines across my face
Tell you #thestory of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am”🎶

I love these fabulous Brandi Carlisle lyrics. They made me think of the words of poet Tyler Knott Gregson (and the wisdom of the gorgeous DVF)

That‘s what I‘m calling all my wrinkles from now on. #scarsofhappiness

The more time I spend in nature, the more I enjoy poetry. This is a beautiful collection of words with the subtle peeks through photographs into the natural world. I only connected with a few poems from this book but it was a real raw connection.

There were some gems of poetry in this collection, but there were a lot that were more mediocre. Some of the poems felt cliche & lacked depth leaving them forgettable.

Many of the poems are also love inspired & maybe I'm just not in a romantic state of mind & was unable to connect. 🙍

I will miss you
always,
even in the moments
when you are right
beside me.
Time apart has planted
longing inside me
and I do not think
it is a weed
that will ever stop
growing.
It will always live there,
but my god,
it grows the most
spectacular
flowers.

I really liked the concept of writing poems on a typewriter, however these poems were quite repetitive for me, and I'm pretty sure I'll forget them pretty soon...

Fun collection of photography and typewriter poems. You may have seen “typewriter poems” floating around online that look just like this. But in Chasers of the Light, a handful of those poems have been gathered up and printed together. Mostly sweet and cheesy love poems, but they‘re still enjoyable at at times way too relatable. If you‘re looking for love poems in a different format you may want to look into this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I found this gem of a book at the store last month. And I knew it would bump my March poet back to April because I had to read it. I love the structure, a mix of poems written on the fly on scrapes of paper (including receipts, plane tickets, old book pages) and typed on beautiful photographs taken by the poet. Most of the poems involded using light as a metaphor for love, hence the title. He is my new favorite modern poet. #poetrychallenge2018

This is the last poem in the book. It‘s the only poem in the entire book that had any type of gravitational pull on me. It‘s this passage that will make me reach for this book again. And it is enough for me to connect in just one place in a book of poetry. I‘m alright with that because sometimes that‘s all we get...just a few words and one small moment in time.
This is his first book so I‘ll try again with his second.

...there is nothing quite so important as emptying your heart every single day and leaving nothing undone, no declarations of it unsaid.

This guy is the love doctor. These are lovey-dovey poems, but it‘s the stuff of teen-aged crushes. Too sweet. Too syrupy. Too sticky. Props for the statement above though...give your heart one hundred every day.❤️💯

Wow. Where do I even begin. Tyler Knott Gregson has a way with words that can make emotions stir from within you. I was so touched by his poems and I felt that he was able to express feelings that I myself have never been able to put words too. I also love his style of poetry and how he uses a type writer to write them (pretty unique). In all, if you're looking for something to make you feel, to smile, to move you, then this is it.

This was such an uplifting, positive and bright collection!
The perfect thing if you need a break from some heavy reading or just need a smile!
Tyler Knott-Gregson writes his poetry on a typewriter meaning you can't edit you just have to keep writing, making it all in the moment, a conscious flow of thought and feeling!
There's also some outstanding photography to accompany some of his poems.
