pickI am a fan of Viola Shipman books but I have to say this book did not pull me in at the beginning. However since I am a fan I kept reading and really came to like the story. A young woman is trying to find herself and through a special recipe box that has been passed down through the generations she not only finds her place in the world but also comes to a better understanding of her place in her family history.
pickNeve Ford was all about Christmas and decorating but when she lost her husband, she didn‘t want to feel anything especially festivity… She moved to an apartment in Chicago and started a successful Christmas window dressing business. pickLoved this short story, but I wish it had been a little longer. I could easily read a whole book with this plot line. Such a sweet Christmas book.

panThis was a disappointment for me, The Recipe Box fell short. It fell short in the execution the stories felt like they were resolved too easily. We were barely introduced to a difficult moment and then BAM, it was resolved. It lacked depth, the dialogue didn't seem natural, themes of history, got to the point where I began skipping over the excessive and moved on to more interesting parts. Sam, was weak and unlikeable. Just not a good read.
I'm avoiding cleaning... And everything else I should be doing. 🙊

I spent almost this whole week on a road trip by myself to see some National Parks a couple states over. This was waiting for me today. Honestly, I had trouble fitting everything into one photo. @RiotMom you outdid yourself - this is AMAZING. Also you might be my soulmate because every single thing in this box was absolutely perfection. You had me at “brown sugar bacon biscuits.” Seriously, thank you so much. 😍😍😍

Haven't read a single page yet. I'll probably not make #8intwo - I've managed 4 in total, so far.
Pictured above, two cats are on this chair. The blanket was supposed to keep the cats from scratching the fabric off the armchair and shedding their coat in the process. It did not help. I'm giving up, I bought an expensive armchair scratching post. 😭

Managed to 'skim-read' one ARC and have moved on to the tagged ARC (German edition). It's got recipes for cakes and pies and now I have a craving for home baked goods and my grandmother, who taught me how to bake.

I have a tiny place and don‘t need any kitchen gadgets or bookish related gifts, but love and appreciate coffee and high quality chocolate :) #feedareader

pickWhat a sweet, yummy book this was! I thoroughly enjoyed The Recipe Box which focuses on family, finding one‘s self and food. Sometimes it was a bit too sugary sweet for me, but I overall very much enjoyed this, and even baked one of the recipes included in the book. (It turned out great!) I voluntarily reviewed an eARC copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

pickThis was a lovely book full of both life and baking wisdom (yummy recipes!). It‘s the story of an orchard and the generations of women who grew up living, loving and baking there, both for their families and the public. The story centers around a young woman in that family wrestling with the idea of where she belongs. While obvious how this will turn out, the viewpoints of these women through a 150-year span, make this story charming. 🔽
