marleed Oh I know what you mean about a night side read. I‘ve discovered I like short stories at my bedside. Those same stories I race though in daylight I slowly absorb over days and weeks at night. 5y

Cinfhen I thought a slow deep read would be perfect for bedtime....you know put me to sleep....which it actually does @marleed @Velvetfur and that‘s probably why it‘s taking FOREVER to read🥱😴🥴 5y

Hooked_on_books You can always go with a Saramago book. Lots to choose from and most aren‘t long. Blindness is probably the best know and is fantastic.

AnneCecilie I own the tagged book, and have for ages. Maybe I too will use it for Portugal, not sure what other book I can use, especially as long as the library is closed 5y

Cinfhen Most places offer an English menu but the Hebrew menu is more precise and descriptive @BarbaraTheBibliophage also some restaurants rely on Google Translate for their menus and sometimes we need to decipher the English 😆😊 5y

zezeki I've read it some 5-6 years ago. Now I don't remember many details of it 😅 but I know that at the time I absolutely loved it. I hope to reread it someday to see if I will feel the same. 6y

Louise I‘ve seen the movie. It‘s quiet and thoughtful; and I remember thinking that the book must have a lot of interior monologue in it, which was palpably missing in the movie. My guess is that the book is far better, though the images are nice in the film. 6y

Texreader Yes I agree with this quote so very much. I mourn a beautiful old mansion up in Westchester county, NY where I interned for several years studying economics. I hear it's been torn down and it breaks my heart I'll never walk those endearing halls, its library, its basement ever again. 😓 8y

I've read this book twice. The first time it blew me away. The second time, I loved it a little more quietly. Isn't it weird how your own life constantly interferes in your experience of a story?

Very little happens in Night Train to Lisbon. It's an emotional journey. It's really quite lovely.

It took a few days but I've finished book three for #bookisholympics! The middle was a little slow, but this Classics professor's trip to Lisbon to discover the life of Amadeu de Prado was interesting.
