This was interesting and different.

I wanted to like this more. Overall, it was good. Very quick read and fascinating premise and setting. It just needed a little more oomph...ya know what I mean?

I enjoyed this book. I adored the beginning but the end was a little lackluster for me. I did really enjoy the reimaging of history and of course that it was about witches. It is a fun book and I do recommend it.

Really enjoying this one! Maybe not the most accurate but I'm a sucker for witches.

I was looking forward to this for a long time but it fell short. I was expecting an in depth, sweeping tale. It was a decent story, and the writing was ok. I kept waiting for something big to happen...it never did. I like the cover more than the story.

I bought this book expecting a story about wiccan-style witches (the blessing symbol on the front cover and first chapter gave me this impression) and was disappointed to find it was more necromancy and spirits of the dead oriented. I had trouble connecting to the main character and was not wowed at any point. Plot was fairly predictable.

That said, the setting is cool and the writing is easy to read.

A story of Alyce, a young witch whose mother had been burnt alive by the Witchfinders. She soon found herself trapped in the war between Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary of Scott. Fast-paced and gripping, although there‘re small holes in the plot but they could be overlooked. I really liked Alyce especially in her opening scene.

A quick pleasant read. And the most beautiful cover ever! Thanks again for the gift. 😘 @TheLondonBookworm

I have 1 week to finish the book I picked for the last prompt of the monthly challenge I‘m taking, but I‘m finding it completely uninspiring, so I‘m stepping back and starting this beauty, which was a complete cover buy but sounds intriguing and isn‘t very long... seems like a good pick to prevent a book slump!

Bought a piece of cake and made myself a nice cup of tea ready for the crazy amount of paperworks. But who could ever work when there‘s a tempting book at hand? One of the most beautiful covers I have.

Fantastic book. Such an amazing story that is so well written I couldn‘t put it down. Now my friends are reading it and feel the same. The perfect story from start to finish.

I don‘t often do cover buys, but... let me put it this way: does the synopsis sound intriguing? Yes. Would I have picked this book over others I already had on my TBR, if it weren‘t for the pretty, pretty cover? Probably not 😬 #sorrynotsorry

This was a perfect autumnal read, sitting warm and cosy under a blanket while our protagonist, Alyce found herself in ever more uncomfortable (usually cold and wet) and dangerous situations.
I really enjoyed how debut author Bowling played with history, taking a very real and very tense political situation and very recognizable historical figures and deftly overlaying the fantasy elements of his story.
