On the Banks of Plum Creek
On the Banks of Plum Creek | Laura Ingalls Wilder
The adventures of Laura Ingalls and her family continue as they leave their little house on the prairie and travel in their covered wagon to Minnesota. Here they settle in a little house made of sod beside the banks of beautiful Plum Creek. Soon Pa builds a wonderful new little house with real glass windows and a hinged door. Laura and her sister Mary go to school, help with the chores, and fish in the creek. At night everyone listens to the merry music of Pa's fiddle. Misfortunes come in the form of a grasshopper plague and a terrible blizzard, but the pioneer family works hard together to overcome these troubles.

This may have been my favorite #LittleHouse book so far. The introduction of characters I knew was a lot of fun (Nellie Oleson!), and I preferred the more varied setting in this one to the remoteness of the prairie in the previous book. Although the adventures & hardships & dangers certainly didn‘t let up! I can see why these books are so beloved, and I still can‘t believe I never read them as a child. Thank you @Ann_Reads for hosting this one!

AnnR Nellie was such a wonderful character to add some childhood drama to the story. I'm so glad you enjoyed the #LittleHouse discussion for this one. 12mo

Finished a few days early because I couldn't resist reading to the end yesterday!! I really enjoyed this reread from my childhood. While there wasn't as much “how to“ as in the earlier books, there were still plenty of adventures. I felt like we also got to see Laura learn some lessons in maturity as well. This book scarred me up on the subject of grasshoppers when I was a kid, and the discomfort is still with me - so icky! I always loved the ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) cover of this one. I'm sure actually living in a dugout would not be that great, but it always sounded so cozy to me. Thanks so much for hosting the buddy read @Ann_Reads !! Looking forward to our next book @megnews !!

AnnR So glad you enjoyed the book and the discussion. I had fun hosting for this book. 🙂 Although I was a little creeped out by grasshoppers when I was a kid, tomato hornworms grossed me out the most. Ugh! Yuck! Eeeew! (edited) 12mo
TheSpineView Not a fan of bugs in general. Great job getting through this one to despite the grasshoppers. 12mo

TheAromaofBooks @Ann_Reads - I'm not exactly scared of grasshoppers, but they do weird me out. But you're definitely right about those tomato hornworms!!! I still can't stand to touch them 😂 I think it's because they are SO big but also so hard to see!!! I pick the stem they are on and throw the whole thing to the chickens so I don't have to touch them! 😆 12mo

4.5⭐️Read this for a #littlehouse readalong. Why I like this book is that you can see Laura taking on more responsibilities, but she still can go out and play. Looking forward to starting By the Shores of Silver Lake this coming week #2023 #fiction #bookreview #bookstagram #childrenslit #middlegrade #historicalfiction

Book two for #middlegrademarch As usual with the Little House chapter a day I hit a certain point and I can‘t stop until the end. Loved this of course and loved having Nellie Olsen make her grand entrance to the Little House books.

TheSpineView Excellent! 13mo

I finished this one up a couple of weeks ago. I forgot this was the story that introduced Nellie and so many of the other fantastic characters that found their way into the TV series. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, too. #LittleHouse
