Stay Out of the Basement
Stay Out of the Basement | R.L. Stine
29 posts | 49 read | 4 to read
Discover the original bone-chilling adventures that made Goosebumps one of the best-selling childrens book series of all time! Dr Brewer is doing a little plant-testing in his basement. Nothing to worry about. Harmless, really. But Margaret and Casey Brewer are worried about their father. Especially when they meet some of the plants he is growing down there. Then they notice that their father is developing plantlike tendencies. In fact, he is becoming distinctly weedy and seedy. Is it just part of their fathers harmless experiment? Or has the basement turned into another little shop of horrors?

4✨ Definitely another creepy tale. Siblings notice that their dad is acting even stranger than usual when they see him working on a new plant experiment. I didn‘t like that the kids were so naive, but that was really my only complaint because they did end up making the right choice. #Scarathlon #BatBrigade @Catsandbooks

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I listened to this one on Hoopla and it was so fun. The narrator made classic voices for each family member. And the RL Stine intro was a perfect touch! Enjoying reading some of these again as an adult 😂

Sargar114 Oh man. I remember reading these over and over again…this one especially 2y

Stay Out of The Basement is a novel written by R.L. Stine. The book follows Casey and Margaret Brewer, whose father recently lost his job as a botanist. Mr. Brewer has gone crazy with his plant experiments down in the basement. When Ms. Brewer goes out of town, his obsession with plants gets out of hand, almost endangering his children.

Enzo.Bovo I give this book a 7/10 simply because the things that happen in the novel are very unreal and I prefer more real things. If you like fictional books, this is a great book to read and you can finish quickly. 3y
Enzo.Bovo I'd say the theme of this book is Action and Adventure (Character vs Supernatural). This theme is clearly present as almost every page includes some sort of action. The entire story is a nonstop adventure of two children who are trying to figure out their father's work in the basement. This novel is nothing but supernatural 3y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Enzo! Fun fact - I have never read a Goosebumps book! 6/6 3y

Loved this book! It was short but a really good book. I use to read these books as a kid and they really freaked me out! I wasn't freaked out this time but definently intrigued. It's amazing how good of an author R.L. Stine is! I know they are kids books but I think I'm going to read some of them(: the ending caught me off guard and the writing is amazing!

This was a good one. Evil plants in the basement, are they breathing? Are they alive? Is Margaret‘s father a plant creature? Such a fun read!

Finished this one Audio today.

Great story with a creepy ending. I loved it. Had a tiny bit of science fiction to go with it. Great short read.

MrBook As a kid, the stories were highly entertaining. They kept moving and they had whacky plots which always led to great angles. 7y

Reading this particular Goosebumps tale, as a kiddo, freaked me out so much that I didn't eat anything green and leafy for a month. Steered clear of plants too. Ah, childhood. 😆As an adult, it's still pretty creepy to me. It's cheesy & predictable, but still enjoyable with an element of nostalgia. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I pretty much cut my horror teeth (fangs?) on creepy fairy tales and the Goosebumps series. I've been meaning to reread some of my childhood favorites, so I picked these up at my local bookstore. I think I'll start with Stay Out of the Basement! I miss the original covers but these are pretty close.

KilgoreTrout I love this! I wonder if I could scrounge some of mine up at my parents... You've given me a new mission! 8y
MrBook 😎👍🏻 8y
BekahB @KilgoreTrout I wish I had my original copies but I donated them to my mom's classroom a long time ago. I hope that over the years some of her students enjoy them as much as I did 😄 8y

BekahB @fern thanks! Frankenstein is my favorite book and the Universal movie is one of my favorite horror classics. 8y

"The dirt was filled with dozens of moving insects. And long, brown earthworms. All crawling through the wet, black clumps that lined her father's bed." (So she goes downstairs, has breakfast, talks to her friend and doesn't think about it for the next 3 hours... Brilliant.)
